That certainly was unexpected! I see how the ones who got the Ultimate Toy Box must feel cheated, but since the Toy Stories are the only Disney movies in which I don’t own the multi-disc versions (I have the 1-disc versions, though), I’m very happy it’s being re-released. Considering the popularity of the film, I think it is going to be rereleased worldwide, like “Mary Poppins” and “Mulan” last year, and not just in the United States, like “Alice In Wonderland” (the 2-disc set, that is).

Speaking of which... In Israel there's no sign of Mary Poppins, yet I suspect we'll be getting the DVD after a theatrical release in July. Yes, it's true! I don't know if it will be nationwide but it's still being released on the big screens!Joe Carioca wrote: like “Mary Poppins” and “Mulan” last year, and not just in the United States, like “Alice In Wonderland” (the 2-disc set, that is).

WOW.... I'm so excited. I was stupid and missed out on the first releases of Toy Story. I will definitely be getting this the day it comes out.

WOOHOO
(news stolen from: http://www.thedigitalbits.com)
First up, Buena Vista and Pixar have announced the release of a Toy Story: 10th Anniversary Edition due on 9/6. Of course, there's just no way that the 2-disc set could top the previous Toy Story: Ultimate Toy Box set, but for those of you wondering, the new release will include audio commentary by director John Lasseter and his creative team (joined by producers Ralph Guggenheim and Bonnie Arnold - likely the same track on the previous DVD), the all-new The Making of Toy Story featurette, deleted scenes, various design and production featurettes and a preview of Pixar's forthcoming Cars. Just how much of this material is new and how much will be recycled from the Toy Box remains to be seen. We'll post more details when we get them.

From UD's review, here's what I gathered is on UTB as far as the first Toy Story is concerned:
*"Tin Toy" short
*52 animated "Toy Story Treats"(interstitials from Saturday mornings)
*3-minute multi-language reel of Buzz's intro scene in 30 diff. languages
*entire Buzz Lightyear commercial from the movie
*2 brief "on-set" interviews with Buzz and Woody
*half-hour docu: "The Story Behind Toy Story"
*sound-effects-only 5.1 track
*audio commentary
*original story treatment
*trailers (#?)
*TV ads (#?)
*deleted scenes (#?)
*7 original Randy Newman song demos
*poster art gallery
*print ads gallery
*merchandising photos gallery
*DD 5.1 soundtrack
It looks like we'll get the same audio commentary this time, and probably the same deleted scenes and perhaps the same documentary and "original story treatment" (not quite sure what that is).
The galleries, trailers/ads, song demos, the short, the treats, the Buzz commercial, and the interviews, though, remain to be seen. Nothing has been announced about these yet, but that doesn't mean much because there's definitely going to be more on the 2 discs than what has been reported so far. In addition, we know that we're getting a new "Making of Toy Story."
I'm also really hoping that the DD 5.1 track becomes a Disney Enhanched Home Theater Mix (which would be the first Pixar disc to get it), or at least adds a DTS option.

The "original story treatment" is a series of stills which present an extensive early version of the film in text format, perhaps with an occassional piece of concept art here and there.
The DD track on Toy Story is amazing. Not sure how they could improve it, but they could always simply rename it "Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix." But then they somewhat play down the Disney name on Pixar DVDs (as some have pointed out, the Disney DVD logo doesn't show up on the most recent ones).
I'm not sure if The Digital Bits actually has news on this DVD or are just piecing together what other people have e-mailed them. They seem to be the #1 website at Disney misinformation.
Sounds like at least two new featurettes/documentaries, more deleted scenes, and a music video will be provided here. Oh, and I'm sure a nice slipcover and that's what really counts!

The only way the technical aspects of the 10th Anniversary of Toy Story can be improved is a new high-definition 1.77:1 anamorphic transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX and DTS 6.1 ES remixes. (Rydstrom's been using the Surround EX capabilities ever since it was introduced in 1999.)
And what, no featurettes or commentary from Joss Whedon, who was one of the screenwriters for Toy Story? With him being a hot name right now, one would suspect Disney would try and capitalize on this...
