USA TODAY Reporting Toy Story 10th Anniversary DVD!

Post by Big Worms »

As reported on the front page of http://www.ultimatedisney.com

http://www.usatoday.com/life/2005-04-28 ... ions_x.htm
The toys are back in town

Toy Story, the landmark computer-animated film from Disney and Pixar, turns 10 this fall, with a two-disc 10th Anniversary Edition DVD set to arrive in stores Sept. 6.

A bonus featurette, The Legacy of Toy Story, includes interviews with celebrated filmmakers on the importance of the film, credited with launching the trend away from traditional hand-drawn animation.

Both the movie's picture and sound quality have been bumped up. Advanced video technology provides a higher digital "bit rate," and the sound has been enhanced by Lucasfilm's Gary Rydstrom, winner of seven Academy Awards and a member of the Toy Story production team. Other special features on the $30 DVD include a new "making of" documentary, 10 deleted scenes, early animation tests and a new music video of Lyle Lovett and Randy Newman singing You've Got a Friend in Me.

- Thomas K. Arnold
I sure hope this is true because it sounds awesome!

Toy Story 10th Anniversary...finally

Post by magicalwands »

I really am happy, but what about Toy Story 2? I know I shouldn't complain but, I believe Disney should make a two-pack release so it equals four-discs altogether.

Hmm. . . I'd kinda like it if they added the deleted scenes in Sid's bedroom when Woody is trapped under the milk crate and has that fleshed-out talk with Buzz.

But of course, there's no mention of that possibilty yet.

Yes, Big Worms got it from the front page, of course. :P

I'm hoping the price will go down because I'd like to own the Ultimate Toy Box as well. :)

Woohoo! This is very exciting news; I can't wait! I'm sure that a Toy Story 2 2-Disc SE will come out either a few months later or on that film's 10th anniversary. Either way, once we have both, I hope they are fully satisfying in that they don't leave any major features from the Ultimate Toy Box un-ported over.

As great as this is, does Toy Story really need another release so soon?

If they're improving the transfer, they should have ported over ALL the extras from the Toy Box edition including the menu formats for uniformity.

Unless there's a significant upgrade in pq though, I'll stick with the Toy Box. I don't know how many extras you can watch before learning every possible background element to the production of Toy Story...

The new making-of documentary might be interesting even though there's already one of the most thorough and extensive making-of's on the current Toy Box edition. The deleted scenes, I believe those are currently also featured. Early animation tests, check. New Randy Newman-Lyle Lovett music video... I'd pay extra to avoid this one.

I'll wait for technical reviews on the transfer quality, I'm skeptical as to how much they really could have improved upon an already near-perfect disc...

I missed out on the Toy Box and didn't want the single disc editions so this is great news for me. Hopefully a TS2: SE isn't far behind...
