LOL at the misspelling.

I don't like rap either. But not all of it is sex and violence. That's what you hear the most because it is what the fans want. My co-worker loves rap, but she listens to clean rap. And her brother and his son also write their own lyrics and music and keep it clean.

Thinking all rap is about sex and violence is like saying all rock is about satan and drugs.

But yeah, I hate rap anyways. The bass literally makes me sick. Give me a rock concert anyday! I even have my daughter saying, "KISS ROCKS!" ;)

As not all classic movie it´s boring, I know but in all the time I have heard--cause I don´t listen for my own will that crap--the only one clean rap was the one of the Spongebob Squarepants the one of the bubbles

That's such an OLD stereotype of rap music. And by the way, I like a lot of rap music. Since the good old days ('80s and '90s), rap music has gone to hell in a hand basket (except for Outkast and Missy Elliot, who continue to be very valuable to contemporary hip-hop). DMX and Ludicris killed it. But don't get me started on naming all the excellent rappers from the past. It would take hours. So everybody here, don't pretend that rap is new. It's not.

It takes someone who listens to rap to know that's a really pathetic joke. And people may argue with this all you want, but a hatred of rap based upon CURSING, is definitely a form of rascism. Not a very serious one, but believe me, I've studdied both! Now SIREN, who says it has too much bass... They have a point. But anyway, that's one of the things I adore about it.

While I understand everybody's point and I do agree with you, I must admit that I have heard Christian rap and hip-hop as well. That doesn't mean I like it-I'm just saying that rap can be clean.

Unfortunately, most of the time it's not.

chaychay, you could easily put Isidour's postsss combined into one, rather than 2 separate posts... (you did it in the previous page with "Bravo" and the use of emoticons...) Not being rude about it, just a friendly heads up, Saving page, that sort of thing. :p

Seems like this is turning into another debate about rap: love it or hate it? people may hate them, but they're getting rich! :p ahh, what a weird world we live in.

EGJ, you can always wait for another release of the movie where the rappers won't be on the cover (slim chance though..) but I don't understand why you said this:
This was a HUGE first! Just because these rapers dubbed (and most probably ruined) the movie they get to appear on the cover? And this size?
Are you judging a movie on its cover? :headshake:

P.S.: no one quote me because I'm not gonna have a debate about it! ;)

1. Well, yeah when the cover gives the whole wrong idea about the movie. Especially for people who haven't seen it. I even took that cover (printed) to the friends whith whom I had watch the movie with... and their first impression was that it was another kind of movie.

...and as said, that's coming from someone who knows the movie...imagine what would be like for someone who doesn't.

2. It is so wrong to take the real actors and place them in a way that they're completley ignored (like 10% of the cover). I know they're not known in the rest of the world but that's so unfair.

Why couldn't they just put their names on the cover in a way like: with the voices of...

3. I don't have anything against these guys or the fact that people are going to watch the movie dubbed or just for them. But it IS wrong to disrespect the work of the original actors and the director.

4. And on top of that the movie contains a chopped version of the original with just stereo sound when this movie (I suggest you watch it... I'm quite sure you'll at least like it) was released almost everywhere with 5.1 or even DTS as it deserves it.

Hope you guys didn't take my typo comment too seriously, after I realized that it caught me off guard it just seemed so funny and I had to share! I know that was not the intention. Besides, "raper" isn't really even a word.

I used to say I hated rap (I also used to hate pop music) but I've tried to be more open-minded in recent years and listen to everything and try to enjoy things for what they are. Now I don't avidly seek out rap just like I don't avidly seek out country, but there are quite a few songs from both genres I happen to like. And I can now enjoy pop music for what it is.

And while we're on the subject, as much as I love music, I think the music industry takes itself way too seriously!

People here have mentioned that not all rap has swearing, but isn't it obvious that rap isn't the only genre that happens to have swearing? Is there anyone here that hates alternative, for example, because of the swearing? And in all honesty the swearing doesn't bother me, but when we're talking about material that gets broadcast. . .

I know I'm going to sound like an old fogey for saying this, but the radio sure has changed in the past ten years. Even if the swearing and other certian references get edited out, there's so many explicit songs out about sex these days and it sickens me. And people made a big deal about Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl? Did anyone even pay attention the last line of their song? Hypocrites, the lot of them. I'd like to say that I'm very open-minded and comfortable with my sexuality, and to each his own, right? But when I can't even play the radio at my program for fear the first-graders are happily going to be sing some extremely explicit material, there's something wrong with this picture.

Evil Genie Jafar - By the way, I completely agree with you about that cover. While I agree that movies (not to mention books) shouldn't be judged by their covers, there should at least be an attempt by the creators to somehow represent the contents of the film in an honest and respectful way.

I believe the first CD to get one of those "Explicit Lyrics" sticker was a ROCK cd, not a rap. I listen to Radiohead, Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Kiss...whole lot of swearing and sexual content in their lyrics too.

Unless you are just comparing in some wayward way rap to pop. Pop is full of sex too though. "Hit Me Baby One More Time" and "Genie In A Bottle". If "rub me the right way" isn't about sex, I don't know what is. Pop is full of sex too.

You don't want to hear sex and violence and curse words? Buy a Kids Bop cd :P

I hope I didn't come off the wrong way here. I wasn't trying to compare rap to pop in any way and I wasn't trying to claim that pop is devoid of sex or profanity. . .

I brought up alternative as an example, but that same comment could be applied to any type of music.

See, I used to dislike rap but it had little to do with the content. . .

And the reason I used to hate pop was because I thought it was so shallow. . .

I don't mind having sex and violence depicted in music. My personal collection can attest to that. What I do have a problem with is some of the stuff that gets so much air time in a free media supposedly regulated by the FCC. I don't believe in censorship but I also think that the broadcasters need to be more responsible. The FCC has really cracked down on network television ever since the Janet fiasco, but how can they justify that when songs on the radio are so explicit? When my cute little kindergarten girls loudly sing lines like, "Please, mister, please, let me suck yer ****!" from Eminem's "My Band" because it's a catchy tune they heard on the radio? I said in another thread that children don't need to be completely sheltered, but this is the kind of thing I draw the line at. I tell ya, it's messed up.

"Genie in a Bottle" seems rather tame by today's standards, and hey, at least it was a song about abstinence. That and "Baby One More Time" are something I can handle with the kids. At least they're not talking about doing it on the bathroom floor or biting a pillow or throwing their panties like some of the more recent music I hear, whether it's pop or rap or alternative. . .

By the way, we end up listening to a lot of Disney music and kidz bop when I work with the kids.

Hate to pick at you, but there was this song on a recent Kidz Bop CD (Volume 6, since I went and checked) by Maroon 5 called "This Love" and here is a sample of the lyrics...

"I tried my best to feed her appetite
Keep her coming every night
So hard to keep her satisfied

Kept playing love like it was just a game
Pretending to feel the same
Then turn around and leave again"

{...}

"My pressure on your hips
Sinking my fingertips
Into every inch of you

Cause I know that's what you want me to do"

...are you still SURE Kidz Bop is appropriate for children? ;)

My answer to all this is: if you want to protect your children, MONITOR what they listen to/watch/whatever. I know that's a lot of work for SOME people, but who said parenting was a vacation??

or how about, "i'm gonna have ya naked by the end of this song!" as heard at the super bowl? no one was complaining about that. . .

I've seen that cover months ago and I do agree that it is horrendous. Yuck. I'm sad to say the only time I've ever seen this film was the dub on MTV. *sigh* Maybe I should rent this disc to see the original version.

Quick question here. . .

Are you sure the Kidz Bop version has the exact same lyrics? I'm not doubting you but they usually sanitize them a bit. Then again, this is the type of stuff that would go over most kids' heads, as opposed to Pink's "Get this Party Started" or whatever it's called when they changed the lyrics to "You'll be watching me pass" from "you'll be kissing my. . ." well, you know.

Yeah, that's right. And I get to "play parent" and monitor a whole bunch of kids that have parents that don't really care to do any monitoring themselves. :( Sigh. I guess it's not really my responsibility, though.
