i'm not an animator so it is not my job to make an ape appealing, you should ask to the guys over Pixar or Ghibli, they have a sense of art far more developped than those ToonStudios (where is the art when your goal is to make sequels to pre established characters...)

Now, as you know, I defendd the sequels (in principle) but admit most are disappointing to various extents (in practice). In fact the only sequels I do think are more than just diversions are Return to Never Land, and to a slightly lesser extent Scamp's Adventure. I actually think The Lion King 1.5 is a rather poor film, and mostly pointless (but I do like the opening when it is not having to stick to the Lion King storyline).

Anyhow, I am totally perplexed why Disney is doing a midquel for Tarzan. The Tarzan legacy is huge - absolutely huge, and Disney had so many opportunities to pick from, I just cannot fathom they they are going for Young Tarzan.

From a quick poll of my daughter and some of her friends, nobody wants to see Young Tarzan*. They want to see old Tarzan having "grown up" adventures, and "fighting lions and tigers and giant snakes".

* These were all girls. Perhaps young boys do identify more with Young Tarzan.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

I agree Netty, I would much rather have seen a Sequel featuring adult Tarzan and Jane. Young Tarzan has absolutely no hook for me! It would indeed have made a far more interesting and probably a more valid sequel!

I expect Disney's main thinking is that Young Tarzan will probably be more attractive to the wee ones. Also they probably feel they've covered adult Tarzan with the TV series and the previous "Tarzan and Jane" film.

Idiots!

Updated the first post with 4 new stills from the film itself. Artistically, these are more compelling. But thematically, they don't exactly have me swinging and beating my chest. More to come.

 I'm glad they're not going for the characters frequently covered by shadows look with this one!

Well when I first saw those first 2 stills I was severely unimpressed. However I have to say that these new stills are of a much better quality in my opinion. I think they show off how good the animation and the effects will be.

Hopefully the majority of the movie will look like as good as the latter.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm still not impressed. It looks way too childish, even for a cheapquel.
EDIT: How rude of me! Thank you for the screens! :)

Tarzan II will be interesting to see. I'll probably rent it before purchasing it.

Still look cheap to me, the Toad gag seen a thousand times (Kuzco, Stitch) seems to find a new way to Tarzan2... And the rhinoceros is ridiculous...

negative me? yes

The look in these newer stills is much better than the earlier two. I concur with the opinions about young Tarzan being less interesting. Looks like it will bore me as a filmgoer, but possibly entertain me as an animation enthusiast.

I can't help but think that there would be more animation-value in having an older Tarzan, fighting creatures and 'tree-surfing' in deep-canvas(or the lower grade Disneytoon equivalent). Those were the best things in the original film, and it seems like they're leaving out every good thing that film had to offer.

I agree that the frog gag looks dumb, and I also think the frog design is weak.

what the heck are these characters on??? seriously..

This one in particular freaked me out

Although the animation looks fine. I'm kind of dissapointed the backgrounds fail to live up to the originals background. Stitch has a glitch does appear to live up. This one sadly does not. Thos midquel story better be really good.

Well, to compare the style from the sequel to the original movie I have pasted the Tarzan II young Tarzan on the original young Tarzan from a screenshot of the original movie. This is the result:

Image

Yes, Tarzan II is way lighter than the original movie so I had to darken Tarzan a little to fit in... But would you really notice it?

I'm serious when I say I do. The lightning used in DTV's often reminds me of... plastic. :P They hardly ever get the colors right. And although the background art has improved in DTV's it leaves a lot to be desired. But then I don't really expect it to live up to the beauty of the original Tarzans backgrounds. They are so detailed... it's scary.

nice comparison though, thanks for sharing
