Just saw the trailer and I'm desperately sad to say that it confirms my worst fears......."BAMBI II IS GONNA BE F#@KING AWFUL!!!! I'm sorry guys, I really REALLY wanted to like it, but it looks so horrendously cheap, it so sounds ridiculously cheap and the characters are so annoyingly "cartoony" that it's a blatant insult to the original film and the loving care and genuine hard work that went into it's making. Just that brief clip shows me that it's gonna be no better than those other DTV disasters "Cinderella II" and that nightmarish catastrophe "Scamp's Adventure"....I'm absolutely heartbroken over this. I'm almost afraid to imagine what musical numbers they've got created for this cinematic eyesore...no doubt they're gonna have Bambi and his bunny buddies doing line-kicks to a "modern" soundtrack sung by Brittney Spears or worse, Paris Hilton in her pop-tart vocal debut. Or hey, how about the Great Prince singing an ode for lost love with yet another batch of Mouseketeers for the chorus? With synthesizers no less? Screw "Eisney" and that entire lot of charlatans...they should be ashamed of themselves for even DARING to foist this pathetic bit of excrement onto the public.
I'm not a huge fan of making sequels from classics--ESPECIALLY from one of Walt's first five. It may turn out to be decent. But adding to these stories is like adding a mustache to the Mona Lisa. You don't mess with a classic. It's like trying to add to A Christmas Carol. It's perfect as it is. Leave it as a classic.

I'm sorry, but correct me if I'm wrong. But didn't Disney add to A Christmas Carol in Mickey's Christmas Carol?joplin4 wrote:I'm not a huge fan of making sequels from classics--ESPECIALLY from one of Walt's first five. And didn't Walt Disney himself add to lots of other classic stories to tell 'his' version, like Snow White, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty etc?
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

It's not the point of objecting to Disney adding another chapter to a classic story as a whole...what I'm objecting to is the fact that they're doing it so very BADLY. Believe me, I'm all for a sequel to something like Bambi or whatever but only if they do it at the same level of excellence that was achieved in the original film. Anything less than that is not only insulting and a slap in the face to a work of art, it's also insults the intelligence of the buying public that deserve better than what's being offered for the sake of a quick buck in Eisner's pocket and another Roller in his garage. I'm objecting to the fact that this film is being made for one reason and one reason only...TO MAKE MONEY, PERIOD. And as far as the Disney movies you mentioned, I'm well aware that they strayed from the source material by a pretty huge margin, but they were still incredibly well done movies that if anything, enhance the stories they were adapted from and encouraged people to actually read them again. Sorry to say that's NOT the case with "Mickey's Christmas Carol"...I thought it nearly as loathsome as the rest of the DTVs Eisney's been churning out and the single worst adaption of the Dickens tale that I've ever seen. As I said in another post, they had a real opportunity to do something wonderful with "Bambi II" but they decided to forsake quality for quickness and bleed as much cash from the public as they can.

In all sincerity, I don't care how good the animation and the backgrounds can be - the film does look bad. Just the idea of making a sequel to a classic like "Bambi" more than 60 years after its release is a really bad one. Seeing it in practice makes matters worse.
You can't judge a movie by its trailer, but what I saw was enough for me... It's sad to see a mature movie like "Bambi" toned down to a simple children's movie, with the seriousness being replaced by slapstick comedy. It all seems so cliched that I can just picture a "be yourself, follow your heart, blah, blah, blah" kind of message being forced down our throats. And what hapenned to the Great Prince? He is completely out-of-character!
Disney has a talented crew down in Australia, but they are never gonna be allowed to grow if they just keep sending them projects like this.

Certanly, if the want to do a good Bambi sequel, at least they must read the book and UNDERSTAND the character...
Walt did it and changed some things, but it was more accurate to the bookthan this sequel

Re: Oh boy....
I totally agree with you there, they DO NOT fit the original characters at all. Thumper's voice makes me cringe. To me it seems like they use the same child VAs for several different roles in their movies, which in this case, doesn't seem to work.I Am Clark Kent wrote: Excuse my language, but the voices...with the exception of Patrick Stewart as Bambi's father, are making my ears bleed.
But like I said before, the animation is beautiful. I just wish they were as attentive to the voices as they were to the animation.

Well, I'm mixed about these sequels. I didn't like the Cinderella sequel and I didn't see the Peter Pan one. I do like Lady and the Tramp II. I have to say, I think I would like this one too. On one level, I wish that they would leave these things alone, but then I watch it and think, "boy, my girls are sure going to love this!"
So, I guess this is my philosopy: Disney is making an effort to put out family entertainment in the form of direct to DVD productions. One of the biggest cost-cutting methods of developing a movie is to do a sequel, becuase much of the expense is in developing something new. By working with exhisting characters, plotlines and designs, much of their work is done. I can't say that I mind so much, especially since some of these are acutally quite good.
The thing that I wish, though, is that they would still put money into creating new stuff in a traditional style, which doesn't seem to be what they are going to be doing anytime soon, especially if that means developing something original for a direct to video market.
So here's a question. How much would we like to see something new -- with new characters and story and all -- that came directly to DVD? Would they be able to get their money back if it didn't have the initial box office blitz?

I would go see the new Bambi movie just cuz I'm curios. However from what I saw from the trailer I think its kinda retarded. They should actually consider making the sequeal out of the book instead of making a story that Disney producers dreamed up.
They make his father into a sissy don't they, I mean he's a mysterious character. Anybody who's read the book would know that's not how Bambi grew up and I've read the book like 5 time. Its a good book.
It shows in the trailer Bambi meets Flower, and Thumper again. However in the movie "Bambi," all of them ask Bambi "Hey Bambi do you remember me?" That would suggest that Bambi never saw his friends after his mother died and right after he became an adult. So what sup with that? Unless they separated again. So I don't know.
Besides Patrick Stewart is the voice of The Great Prince of the Forest. I'm a fan of Patrick Stewart(from Star Trek). You know what would be funny in the movie "Bambi and the Great Prince of the Forest" have the Borg be in it. "Oh--so you hid yourself in a deer huh Capt'n Piccard? Well we're still going to assymalate you. Yeah thats right... resistance is futile!"

Yeah you're right aboot the movie being for kids, I mean if they did follow the book closly it would be PG-13 at least.
However, in the movie "Bambi" they acctually capture the Great Prince's character described in the book... sort of. He talks more in the book. It just appears to me that they're not going to incorperate his attitude from the old movie into the new one. And that's what disappoints me. I guess you already talked about that oh-well now you have my oppion about it.
