Disney Rareties Tin: SPECULATE!
It is still very early but I feel the Disney Rarities set is mainly just the previously mentioned Disney Miscellaneous set renamed - generally the Specials shorts. There were 39 Specials shorts, with some of them in the 25 minute range - such as Ben And Me and The Small One. Goliath II is around 15 minutes.
I do hope that the Rarities collection is the Specials shorts. Several of those Specials have rarely been seen by any Disney fan. Although I've collected nearly all the Disney theatrical shorts from the sound era, I have never seen the 1982 Special short "Fun With Mr. Future".
Here's the 39 shorts considered to be Specials:
Ferdinand The Bull (1938)
Education For Death (1943)
Reason And Emotion (1943)
Chicken Little (1943)
The Pelican And The Snipe (1944)
The Brave Engineer (1950)
Morris, The Midget Moose (1950)
Lambert, The Sheepish Lion (1952)
Susie, The Little Blue Coupe (1952)
The Little House (1952)
Adventures In Music: Melody (1953) (Also known as just "Melody")
Football Now And Then (1953)
Ben And Me (1953)
Toot, Whistle, Plunk, And Boom (1953)
Pigs Is Pigs (1954)
Casey Bats Again (1954)
Social Lion (1954)
Hooked Bear (1956)
Jack And Old Mac (1956)
In The Bag (1956)
A Cowboy Needs A Horse (1956)
The Story Of Anyburg, U.S.A. (1957)
The Truth About Mother Goose (1957)
Paul Bunyan (1958)
Eyes In Outer Space (1959)
Noah's Ark (1959)
Goliath II (1960)
The Saga Of Windwagon Smith (1961)
A Symposium On Popular Songs (1962)
Scrooge McDuck And Money (1967)
It's Tough To Be A Bird (1969)
Dad, Can I Borrow The Car? (1970)
Man, Monsters And Mysteries (1974)
The Small One (1978)
Vincent (1982)
Fun With Mr. Future (1982)
Oilspot And Lipstick (1987)
Off His Rockers (1992)
Stand By Me (1995)
Although I don't have them as part of the 39 Specials, the more recent shorts "Destino", "One By One" and "Lorenzo" could be considered Specials shorts.

What of the remaining Goofy shorts that didn't make it onto The Complete Goofy set? The two I can remember off the top of my head that couldn't really fit anywhere else are the two Freewayphobia ones. Maybe they'll make their way here?
Jebsdad I don't believe that Education for Death, Chicken Little, and Reason And Emotion will make it on this set, as that would unnecessarily repeat what was on the On The Front Lines set. It could happen, but I'd rather see something else in that place

Driver Education Film
Did Disney ever produce a driver education film/cartoon with Goofy or Donald?
If so, maybe something like that would be on this Treasure.
You know, there were two Casey cartoons: the orig. poem, and the one with his daughters.
Various of the above-mentioned shorts have been released as extras on DVDs such as Melody Time and Ichobad Crane/Mr. Toad, etc.: like Lambert, Susie, Casey.

My handmade paperweights, including Disney subjects -- some contain viewable movie cells!

I am really hoping this is any animated short that doesn't have a place with any other treasure. The Alice Comedies should have their own treasure if anything because I think there is enough to fill 2 DVDs. As for Oswald I think we're going to have to ask Universal for those because I believe they have the rights to them.

Yes those two could also be added to the list of shorts that could feature on this set, as could the 3 Chip 'n' Dale shorts:Jayden wrote:What of the remaining Goofy shorts that didn't make it onto The Complete Goofy set? Chicken in the Rough - 1951
Two Chips and a Miss - 1952
The Lone Chipmunks - 1954
Also the two Figaro shorts could be included:
Figaro and Cleo - 1943
Figaro and Frankie - 1947

I think there should be three Figaro titles.
If we get four Treasures, two of them should be cartoons sets. So it seems highly likely that the Rarities would be the "Special" cartoons. (It could be mentioned, though, that a few of the titles on the "long list" aren't really "cartoons" - but animated stop-motion with various objects.)
I wonder how long the Treasures line can be kept going. I guess there should be about four more cartoons sets left after Wave 5. So could there be more than two more waves to go, maybe three? Could they release a wave of Treasures without any cartoons sets at all?

Whatever shorts end up on the Rarities set, I hope they've got a plan so that we'll eventually get all of them.
If it comes down to a matter of space, they could always release the one-shot cartoons on this set, and put the Chip and Dale, Humphrey, and Figaro cartoons on another set.
I'd also like to see Lorenzo and Destino, as I missed them in the theater.

Maltin already said in an interview that was posted on another website either late last year (2004) or earlier this year that the Treasures line was "renewed" by Disney for another 4 years, so we should have 3 more waves after this next one!Lars Vermundsberget wrote:I wonder how long the Treasures line can be kept going. I think that the "special" cartoons - many of them are longer than the standard cartoons, so with 39 of those, the "special" cartoons may warrant more than one set.
Are there any shorts that have been locked up like Der Fuhrer's Face?ohmahaaha wrote:Maltin already said in an interview that was posted on another website either late last year (2004) or earlier this year that the Treasures line was "renewed" by Disney for another 4 years, so we should have 3 more waves after this next one!Lars Vermundsberget wrote:I wonder how long the Treasures line can be kept going. Dolce fare niente...
I'm hoping for SMALL ONE! It's my favorite short ever.
Maybe they could include some cool stuff like Mickey and The Beanstalk
(the version with the Dr. and the cricket...I can't remember their names at the moment.)
I'd rather have song of the south,
but If Small One is on here, I'm buying it flat out!
If it's stuff like the Alice Comedies, I'll pass.

This is a collection I'm really looking forward to. I just got Silly Symphonies and am really liking it so far. I really hope that this comes out soon, as I loved Little Hiawatha as a kid!MK Sharp wrote:There's 38 Silly Symphonies left for Vol 2 - 21 B/W and 17 colour. They are:
