Spellbinder is an Australian co-production with (I think) Poland. Disney have no involvement beyond licencing the show to screen in the USA.

www.ezydvd.com.au is a good place for non-Australians to pick up the DVD if they want it, since we don't have a local Amazon branch yet.

I got the complete list because I'm a buyer for a video library. I get a glossy dealer's kit each month, preview cassettes of the rental titles and regular visits from a delightful sales representative named Jackie. I was seriously considering getting Witch Mountain too, because I loved it as a kid.

I think it would be a fairly foolish idea on Disney's part to try filming all seven: The Magician's Nephew is a bit dodgy, A Horse And His Boy is pretty much unrelated and The Last Battle is both horribly evangelical and utterly umfilmable (Aslan's crucificion doesn't exactly spell family audience)....

Since there seems to be three films nominated each year, I'm going to go for:
- The Incredibles
- Howl's Moving Castle
- Shrek 2

Shrek won't stand a chance, and the award will be a toss-up between Pixar and Ghibli for who wins.

By DTV I meant direct-to-video, not digital TV. :-) Stuff like Hunchback 2, Cinderella 2 and so on. Disney do a really good job of pillaging their archives to maximize profits, and I personally find that more insidious than Pokemon could ever be. Disney are deliberately ruining their own history in ...

Pokemon

I think it's obviously a commercial decision on Disney's part to pick up the distribution of the Pokemon movies, although I note that they do their best to keep the Disney logo as far away from them as possible, distributing them only as "Buena Vista Home Entertainment". The Nintendo compu...

I absolutely agree on the ending of all those DTV sequels. They're poorly animated, badly written (which is the bigger problem) and somewhat insulting to the original work. I think Disney should leave Henson well alone. They weren't particularly positive in their relationship before, and as a bigger...

I think Disney have suffered from a lack of a clear direction in recent years. Films like Tarzan, Treasure Planet and Atlantis have been pushing in one direction while films like Brother Bear, Emperor's New Groove and Lilo & Stitch have been pushing in another. Neither have been getting decent e...

Well I agree with the UK ruling - why should blockbuster be able to buy a DVD for £15 and rent it out untold times and get all the profit themselves? If the studios were willing to present an equitable method for profit share, I would be utterly overjoyed, but they don't. This two-tier pricing mode...

is because in the UK when you buy a disc, you do not "own" the film, you simply purchase a licence to view the film (that's why there's conditions like not charging for the showing, and only being able to be played at home for personal use in the small print). So the studios can draw up t...

Pokemon Heroes: The Movie (R4)

In case anyone's interested, Buena Vista Home Entertainment are releasing "Pokemon Heroes: The Movie" on VHS and DVD in Australia on April 21st.
I believe it's the fifth in the series, and the second to be distributed by Disney. It's retailing for AUS$19.95 VHS and AUS$29.95 DVD.
