I don't care much about the Oscars but as for which was my favorite of those listed (and while not having seen all of them), I voted for How to Train Your Dragon . I had feared it would be another crass Shrek clone and instead it was captivating. Sure, it had some flaws but that part where Toothless...

I don't remember this that well anymore but I enjoyed it enough when it first aired that I got it on VHS (although I've never actually watched it again so that was probably a mistake). The set I have has the five episodes on individual tapes - labeled Night One, Night Two, etc., or something like th...

The only reason I'd heard of the WDT line was because something out-of-the-blue reminded me of "The Ugly Duckling " (the 1939 version) which prompted me to check if it was on home video. This happened to be only months before the first wave of Treasures was to be released. If I hadn't thou...

I broke down the other day and bought a DVD from the Disney Educational site. The price was 50% less than when I first saw the title there but I'm still cringing at having spent so much. Anyway, I reckon this all but guarantees the continuation of the Treasures line because now those cartoons can ap...

The business and cultural factors cited here for why these characters need to be re-introduced and made relevant to a new generation are all perfectly reasonable. Marketing practices, changing demographics, etc...they're all true, for better or worse. But during the studios early heyday, the shorts ...

Just wanted to say that I hope my post didn't come across as "preachy" about the eating meat! Don't worry, you didn't sound preachy and besides you couldn't sound any more so than I probably did going on about environmental issues in the Earth thread. On a related note, there's two new do...

Thanks for clarifying that. I did read elsewhere that the bonus features won't be high-defintion so it looks like you're right. One person mentioned something I hadn't considered - that the heavy makeup used in these old movies looks rather garish and the wires used for flying effects are plainly v...

1) I don't have a Blue-Ray player - are MGM: When the Lion Roars and the extended version of "If I Only Had a Brain" the only BD exclusive features? Thought I might have missed something in that long list of details. And another dumb question, it says there's two discs but the picture appe...

(I won't get into the global warming debate etc. When I was a student in the 80s, the fear was of a coming ice age - so it goes to show how much scientific opinions have changed!). I think there's credible, compelling evidence that global warming has been taking place and that human activity has be...

I remember when this film came out. Del Ray had recently begun re-publishing the Baum books and one Christmas I got the first seven titles. The remaining Baum books were re-printed in following years. I just loved them and still watch the MGM film every year. Dorothy's last name in the movie, "...

...one of the biggest issues which nobody has addresses is the fact that the sheer population on the planet is too large... That is the endangered elephant in the room, isn't it? We hear a lot about financial debt nowadays but there's another debt crisis in the world - ecological debt, which is whe...

Wasn’t sure if this film would show around here but just checked and it’s booked for an area theater. Even though I’ve already seen the tv series (and have the DVD set too), I think it’d be amazing to see this new & old footage on a big screen and am looking forward to original movies from Disne...

1) I've been looking for a through reference book on Disney shorts - would the Encyclopedia of Walt Disney's Animated Characters by John Grant be a good choice? Oh and the only Disney books I think I have are: - Walt Disney Parade: Fun Favorites, Great Moments in Fiction, Adventures in Fact, and Fan...

Another nice thing about the Disney Channel back then was that it didn't interrupt shows or movies for station breaks. Promos only ran before/after programs. Guess that was because it was originally a premium channel.

I've been transferring some of my old VHS tapes to DVD and last night while burning a copy of a mini-series I had recorded off the Disney Channel in 1988, I found the tape continued after the mini-series ended - following it there was an old educational film, a promo feature on animating, and then a...

Thanks for the clarification. I had spoken to a customer service rep this morning but she didn't seem to be familiar with the problems and said I needed to get my dvd player checked. Please clarify - did Disney offer replacement discs for TLA Vol. 1 & 4 due to the color and aspect issues?

Thank you!

Re: "Bee at the Beach" being in the Vault section I wasn't sure myself and so checked some reviews...seems like no one really knows why but most speculate that it might be due to the level of aggression and violence between Donald, the bee, and the sharks (does it really go that far beyond...
