I'd like to see more traditionally animated films being made with the great storytelling, characterization, fluidity of motion and background detail of a Disney film from the '30s-'50s.
I won't say anything more .

2D may still be going post DisneyToon's closure. But it's not happening at Disney. True, but you're again forgetting that Disney has been co-producing the 2D films of Studio Ghibli ( http://www.nausicaa.net ) in Japan since Isao Takahata's "My Neighbors the Yamadas" in 1999 through to Gor...

Re: 2-D vs. 3-D

I do believe that 2-D is more or less dead, at least as far as major feature releases in the future. Really?! Maybe in America it is, but not in other parts of the world. Such studios as Les Armateurs in France and Studio Ghibli in Japan, which are extremely successful in their native countries, co...

Re: Disney/D'Works Animation Quality (Continue from 'Off-Top

Yesterday I was showing my Dad the new "Earthsea" trailer from Studio Ghibli and he and I agree on one thing -- that traditional, hand-drawn animation has this sense of weight, fluidity, subtlety, and nuance that CG just doesn't have. There's really nothing quite like it. Just thought I'd ...

My 36 year old brother told me that he read something on a local newspaper about a Japanese animated film having not amazing but 'incredible animation'. I asked him if it was a Hayao Miyazaki film. He said yes that's it. I asked him if it was called 'Howl's Moving Castle'. He said he doesn't think ...

Is it just me...or does the animation look a little jerky for even a DTV, as if they decided not hire as many inbetweeners as usual. I mean, I noticed some strobe when the characters moved. Maybe it's just me, though.

Well, I strongly disagree with your statement. I'm sorry, but I don't look for "showing-off" virtuosity when I watch animation. Treasure Planet has tons of that, and it just doesn't interest me. That's why I'm more fond of the subtlety of early Disney than the "flouncing pantomime&qu...

"However, here is what I think is the greatest animated scene I have seen, in my opinion, from Kiki's Delivery Service . It may not be as complex or sophisticated as scenes in other animated films, but I love it all the same: http://youtube.com/watch?v=JrN1-fImVSg And it's all done by hand :wi...
