is the anchor bay switch to MGM happening?

Post by disneyfella »

i was just at anchor bay's website (www.anchorbayentertainment.com) making my usual round seeing if they are releasing anything new and i saw that there are a considerable number of disney films that have been taken off their website (i.e. amy, the happiest millionaire, etc.) they don't have any info on any release on their site. they used to have screen shots of the cover and info on the special features of the disc up, but now even a keyword search on the site doesn't turn anything up. perhaps their rights to the film are finished and MGM already has the prints and they are working on special dvd deluxe editions better than even anchor bay released......

hey, a guy can dream can't he?

I don't think it's likely we'll see anything other than repackages of the DVDs Anchor Bay already released...but it'd be great if we did.

I'd buy Midnight Madness in Widescreen, and Natty Gann...and Honey I Shrunk the Kids (I should get the UK disc of this), and Cheetah. Disney should just let other studios do their titles right, although based on MGM's treatment of '80s title, maybe they're not the ones.

No, they DID have rights to it at one point, but then Disney pulled their heads out of their butts and started releasing their mostly-untouched catalogue last year...and the customers get rewarded with big studio Pan & Scan. I'd be shocked if they (AB/MGM/someone other than Disney) were able to get the rights back to films like Return to Snowy River, Cheetah, Natty Gann, etc.

I was just posting my wishful thinking.

I hope that Disney will just release the movies that Anchor Bay did themselves, again in widescreen, this time with DD 5.1 and more supplementary features!!! Like that will ever happen. However, it seems that a lot of movies are being released in their OAR, so I have hope!
