Snow White "Masterpiece Collection"

Post by Logoliker2004 »

I need help here on something. I have a 1994 VHS print of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", featuring the "Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection" label, but the tape itself features the 1988-1997 Walt Disney Home Video logo instead! (The Sorcerer Mickey version).

Do I have a "rare" print of this video or something? Do other 1994 VHS releases of "Snow White" feature the animated Masterpiece Collection logo?

1. This should be in General Discussion

2. The only version of Snow White I know is the Masterpiece edition. If you have that then no it isn't rare. But when you say "The Sorcerer Mickey version" if your refering to the black diamond then I never heard of such a thing.

I'm not really sure. It has the official Walt Disney text on the tape label and such. Also at the beginning it has the Disney-style FBI Warning cards, followed by a short featurette narrated by this old guy (I was fast-fowarding through it) explaining about Disney and "Snow White's" history, then the Disney Home Video Sorcerer Mickey logo plays, followed by the 1985 Walt Disney Pictures Castle logo, then the movie begins playing. The tape also reads "WDHV" on the side.

Well, it has the Masterpiece Collection label and such on the cover, it appears to look like the official 1994 release.

But when I refer to the "Sorcerer Mickey" logo, keep in mind there are TWO versions of the logo - the Walt Disney Home Video version (with the logo in RED text,) and the Walt Disney Classics version (the more famous Black Diamond version). This features the red-text Disney Home Video logo, NOT the Classics version. It's the same logo that appears on the "Singalong Songs" and "Talespin" and "Darkwing Duck" videos, etc.

Are there really other prints of this video featuring the WDHV logo instead of the Masterpiece Collection logo?

WOW! :o

I have a few films like that! (Mostly DuckTales :D ) but I never heard of it being in front a an actually film. I'm pretty sure Disney never released that video before unless it's extremely rare!

Well, the Disney Home Video logo DOES show up on a few Classics and Masterpiece Collection videos before the previews begin. This means on the Black Diamond tapes, the Sorcerer Mickey logo plays TWICE! (It's like that on Robin Hood's 1991 VHS release, except they cut short the Mickey part so we don't see Mickey in the Classics logo, the black diamond animation plays only. We only catch a glimpse of the iconic rodent during the "Disney Home Video" logo instead on it.)

I just popped in my copy of the Snow White "Masterpiece Collection" tape, and the red "Walt Disney Home Video" logo with Mickey is there, so your copy isn't unique. Snow White was the first "Masterpiece Collection" film released, I believe, so that's why it doesn't have the same opening as the other titles in that line.

First of all, I also have the Snow White Masterpiece Collection video that starts with the red Walt Disney Home Video logo. I don't think this copy I have is rare. Snow White was the first Masterpiece Collection video released with these movies following after it:
Alice in Wonderland
Robin Hood
Dumbo
The Sword in the Stone
Mary Poppins
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
So Dear To My Heart
Pete's Dragon
The Three Caballeros
Of the black diamond classics, the only one I know of is The Three Caballeros. Besides those two movies thats all I know of for at the moment.

EDIT: Found another Masterpiece Collection video that starts withthe red WDHV logo. Melody Time 50 Anniversary video starts off with the red WDHV logo, then the trailers, and then the Masterpiece Collection logo

That's possible. Or maybe it could have been an editing mistake?

I just popped in my Snow White VHS and the beginning you mentioned is the same on mine. The old guy you're talking about is Roy Disney, Walt's uncle and he does the introduction. Some features Disney made are mentioned plus Roy does a feature on the upcoming of Pocahontas in 1995.

There were two versions....I have both. The Masterpiece logo was from a second printing shortly after the first.

I think Snow White and Lion King both have the red logo before the movie starts. I don't know about the catalogue MC releases, except Alice, and I think it had the gold Walt Disney Home Video logo.

MY print of "The Lion King" has NO logo, except for the Disney Castle. Besides, I heard other prints of that film had the regular Masterpiece Collection logo.
