Fox preps 'Family Guy' movie for Sept. 27 DVD bow
Monday June 20 12:38 PM ET

"Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane is preparing his long-awaited direct-to-DVD movie based on the exploits of his cartoon clan for a Sept. 27 release.

"It's been an enormous undertaking to juggle this with doing 35 new episodes of the show, but we think it turned out great," MacFarlane said of the film, his first full-length feature, and the first direct-to-video ever made off a television franchise.

The 83-minute, unrated "Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story" ($29.98) is based on the animated series MacFarlane created for Fox Television in the late 1990s. The irreverent series, aimed at adults rather than kids, went on the air in early 1999 and was canceled in 2003, only to be resurrected last month after an overwhelming demand for the show on DVD.

The first DVD set sold more than 2.5 million units, the second-highest sales tally of any TV-DVD release behind the first season of "Chappelle's Show," and two subsequent packages lifted the "Family Guy" franchise's total sales to about 4.5 million units.

That prompted Fox to take the unprecedented step of bringing back the show. The new season debuted in May and has since featured a bevy of guest voices, including Drew Barrymore, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Tilly and Adam West.

"Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin" is something of a thank you to the show's fans who bought so many DVDs, MacFarlane said. "Fox had such a great amount of success with the previous DVD releases that I think they felt there was a built-in, surefire market for a 'Family Guy' DVD," he said. "It's also a lot easier to put out a DVD release than it is a theatrical film while you're doing a television series."

The movie finds Stewie, the maniacal baby genius, having a near-death experience that prompts him to change his ways. Instead of seeking to dominate the world, he sets out on a road trip to find his real father.

Guest vocal talent includes Barrymore and Ron Livingston, as well as three cast members of "Beverly Hills, 90210" -- Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling -- "in a special gag," MacFarlane said.

The DVD will include several special features, including deleted scenes, still galleries, animatics and a commentary from MacFarlane.

"We also sandwiched special features around the movie," he said. "It begins with an animated movie premiere, with the family arriving to watch it, and then there's an after-party at the end."

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is planning the biggest marketing campaign ever for a TV-spawned release, according to division worldwide president Mike Dunn. Plans include national print and TV advertising as well as a viral marketing campaign targeting college students at bars, clubs and fraternity parties; special screenings will be held for college students.

What Do You Guys Think??
Im 50/50 about it... Im Not That Big Of family Guy Fan(more of south park and simpsons) but I think they should have released it in theaters yet I dont also

If They Released It in Theaters
-The Movie Says Uncut so Like South Park Movie We Will Get a ratein of R an that may effect the box office because alot of people who watch it are 12-20.... Yet if they have an older friend or sibiling they may take them to see it.
- Lets look at some of the box office ratings that were movies based on a TV sghow
Spongebob Movie 82million
South Park Bigger Longer and Uncut 52million
The Rugrats Movie 100million

So as You can tell The Rugrats made the Most Money because Its For Kids... while South Park made the least cause Of The rating.... But South Park could have made less because of the timing... noone really watched it back then and it gotten more popular today. Spongebob was in the middle because the show is watched by both kids and adults(spongebob is my favorite show :P ) so as you can tell it is in the middle. Also Family Guy made tons Of DVD sales.

My prediction is If The fmaily Guy Movie came to theaters and got a R rating it woul have probblay made around 72million with huge dvd sales.

If Family Guy Came To Theaters with A Rating Of PG13(but probblay wouldnt be good) It would probblay make around 102million dollars with decent DVD sales

What do you guys think?? Should It have gone to theaters??

My friend is a huge family guy fan... he will buy the movie so I will just borrow it when hes done and give it back... so i wont buy it or rent it... What are you guys doing??

oh i love this show.

I'll be sure to get this dvd once it hits the sales floors.

All the characters are so awesome-quagmire "giggidy!" tom tucker, death, & mayor adam west, & i also really like neil goldmans family.
"Flush once for the bulk, & twice for the remainder!"

though, i dont think this show is as big as simpsons will ever ever be, its still a great show to go down in adult animation.

Its OK going direct to DVD - I think based on box office performance and the effort it takes to market and distribute we will be seeing a lot more of this.

By the way Adam West is a semi regular and has been for years. He plays the mayor. "I love this job more than taffy, and I am a man who enjoys his taffy" Although they never mention Batman(probably for copyright reasons) he appears to still think he is Batman.

(Adam West is marrying his hand)
Priest: If anyone has any reason as to why this marriage should not take place, speak now or forever hold your peace.
(Adam West's other hand raises up)
Adam West: Shut up, you had your chance!

Doctor: Mayor West, you have Lymphoma.
Mayor: Oh My.
Doctor: Probably from rolling around in that Toxic waste. What in God's name were you trying to prove?
Mayor: I was trying to gain super powers.
Doctor: Well that's just silly.
Mayor: Silly yes ... Idiotic ... yes.!

Mayor West: MY GOD! Someones stealing my water!
Meg: But it just went down the drain.
Mayor West: They hit when you least expect it.
(Waters plant)
Mayor West: SHOW YOURSELVES COWARDS! I've spent $1000 dollars of the tax payers money trying to find these thieves and I'll spend $1000000 if thats what it takes!
Meg: You know, I think I have my story.
Mayor West: NO! WAIT! You can't print that! Thank god shes just a figment of my imagination.

By the way, when are we getting our Glen Quagmire forum?

I'll get it although I'm more interested in The simpsons theatrical movie and the Futurama direct to video DVD movies.

I like how it will be unrated. :)

I really like this show. I think the writing is actually really clever. It's sometimes better than the Simpsons! Brian is my favorite character! :D

I still don't see why they don't release it in theaters. I think if they released it in theaters, it would get a PG-13. Anyways I might rent the movie!

I look forward to this release.. I have the season sets on DVD and this would be an awesome addition to that. I would love to see Futurama come back or a movie made.. Why they cancelled that show I don't know. In my opinion, far funnier than the Simpsons. They cancelled the wrong show.. Never been a fan of the simpsons, I have season one on DVD only because it was a gift.

I'm surprised so many people like The Simpsons. I thought it was good in its first seasons but slowly grew stupid. I'm more of a Family Guy and South Park fan. Stewie and Cartman forever! XD

I really loved the Simpsons when it first came out. But its not as funny anymore, its just been on for so long. They've done everything! I think its time to go out gracefully and with some dignity.

Now I am a huge Family Guy fan, I love every episode and it just keeps getting better. I'll def be buying this DVD movie.

American Dad is unfortunately not so funny. That's kind of a Family Guy rip off and should go. I'd rather watch Family Guy repeats.

Also, they should bring back Futurama. It was cancelled far too soon.

Well, I'm a fan of Family Guy, The Simpsons, Futurama, and American Dad, but Family Guy is my all time favorite. I'm really excited about this DVD release (A DTV that I'm excited about, that's pretty creepy.). I heard about this about a year ago, but back then, the movie wasn't about Stewie's real father; it was something about him realizing he's gay and so on and so on. I like the idea of the trying to find his father plot better. The other one just seems like it could have enough plot to fill up only an episode. And just because it's unrated doesn't mean it'll be inappropriate, so I don't see why everyone is getting their hopes up just yet. Even if the movie has that really long episode feeling and doesn't seem like a movie, I'll still be happy.

With The Simpsons

The Show IMO is a classic... it was the one that started all the adult humor cartoons..... if there was no simpsons idk if there would there be a family guy

The thing w/ the simpsonsis now that 12 yrs old give it bad names
The show was bassically good till the 11th season then it went downhill the show just got bad while i think this season was good.... So unless if u were a simpsons fan for awhile then ur robblay only the simpons fnans.. im a fan of the show an i like it better than family guy..

South Park is on the top... That show is downright wrong... but yet its hilarious... Im the ype of guy who tries not to watch things that are aful and bad but this show is Hilarious... Cartman and Butters RocK!!

I dont think the movie would be PG13.... The ratin of the show in the USA is TV14.... so i think that if they released it in theaters it would get an R but i could be wrong... Plus If The Movie was R it would be alot better I think

JiminyCrick91 wrote:I like both AD and FG and speeking of Family Guy tvshowsondvd.com has a bit of info about the DTV movie

"Technically this falls out of the scope of the site, since we only cover TV shows being released to DVD, and this is a direct-to-DVD title, but it's Family Guy, and there are exceptions to every rule...

Fox has announced that they'll release "Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story" on September 27. This 83-minute unrated direct-to-DVD title will follow Stewie as he sets out in search of his real father. Special features will include deleted scenes, still galleries, animatics, and a commentary featuring Seth MacFarlane."

I also herad (thats HERAD mind you) that only at Wal-Mart they will have a tv edited version on sale since this is going to be a tad different than the epps.

I've always loved 'The Simpsons'. I've been watching it since season one and I eventually saw all of the Tracey Ullman shorts and I've never missed an episode so I've seen them all. It's like the show is a part of my life and 9/10 people I know it's their way of life too. :P

Even though I have always loved it I do think it has declined as most feel it has but I still think it's one of the best shows on TV still. I care about the characters more than any other animated show too. I think around the 11th season it did slide a bit but in the last two seasons it's gotten better like how it was just before it slid. So basically what I'm trying to say is that the classic years are done but it's still a hell of a good time watching it. :)

Family Guy for me was only mildy enjoyable when it was first on. I didn't like the pilot episode at all and I think it's my least favourite episode although now I have warmed up to it more. When I bought the DVDs I started to enjoy it more because I discovered a few episodes that I had never seen and they are my favourites. My favourite episode of all time was the last episode I had not seen until season 4.
As for the current season... well it's fun to watch but during it's time off the air it seems like it lost a little something. Ah well they are polishing the rust off. :)

Oh and lastly... yankees... get an avatar. :D
