I have got to say, I trust Mile High Comics. They aren't the type to announce something without research.

Slave Labor has signed a licensing deal with...WALT DISNEY. Slave Labor will put out four comics titles: HAUNTED MANSION, an anthology based on the ride; GARGOYLES, based on the cartoon, and written by creator Greg Weisman; WONDERLAND, a spin-off of the animated film ALICE IN WONDERLAND but minus Alice; and TRON. Yes, Tron. The book will bridge the gap between the cult movie and the cult video game. More details to come.
I never heard of Slave Labor until now and but reading about, it is apparently a more underground comic book company. Not at highly known as Marvel and DC. So this is a fantastic move for the company and I can only hope that the comics themselves will be true to the movies/tv shows/rides.

To you perhaps.
But for me and many other Gargoyles fan, we are excited about this news.
Not to mention, I am sure Tron fans out there will also be waiting for this too.
All right, I'm glad you're excited. I just don't find Disney comic strips to well thought out and I don't have much interest in Gargolyes, Tron, Alice in Wonderland or even the Haunted Mansion (as anything more than a cute ride).
Disney comic strips are those cute little Mickey Mouse strips you see in Sunday papers.
Comic books are a totally different area. I highly doubt Gargoyles will become a hilarious, corny comic strip. Gargoyles got the comic book treatment once already by Marvel and IMO, it was well done and close to the series, if not a little darker, which was nice.
And frankly, if you don't have much interest in the topic, why did you even post? Just curious. I don't care for Lizzie McGuire, but I don't go into there just to say, "I don't like Lizzie.". It just seems like a waste of time to me.
The Wonderland comic will be strictly about the Wonderland characters without Alice? That sounds very intriguing. I used to buy Disney comic books from a local store before it closed down and always wanted to see an Alice one (I know there's been one comic adaptation of the film which pops up on Ebay a lot, but I haven't read it). If the Wonderland comics are as good as they potentially can be, I'll definitely make an extra effort to find them somewhere. Hopefully the artwork will make it worthwhile, at least.
Zowee! I wonder if the Garg comics will follow the Show or Marvel comics or take off in a new direction. any Garg continuation is better than nothing at this point cept the G.Chronicles
I probably won't buy them, but I am curious about what the Wonderland comic will be about if Alice isn't there. Backstory on the Queen, the Cheshire(sp) cat, or the Mad Hatter maybe?

Sorry, but Pasta's comments are so interesting I have to reply.
That sounds fascinating...but that should be a novel, not a comic strip.
The Wonderland comic does sound cool as well.
I doubt Gargoyles will continue where Marvel left off. First off, Marvel created a new character, Venus and the last comic said she would return in the next comic and then they cancelled it. I would have loved to see Venus return, but I think Marvel still has some rights to her. Unless Disney has total rights to her and can allow her to be used by Slave Labor. That is one character I would love to see evolve.

This is going to be very bizzare. I can't believe Disney gave them the rights. If you've read anything by Slave Labor graphics, you'll know that they're about as far from Disney as you can get.

That's what everyone said when Square and Disney made a partnership for Kingdom Hearts, and that turned out to be really successful.

So true, Pasta.
That's what Disney was trying to do with Gargoyles too. It was a step away from the normal "Disney Afternoon" fare. Disney went into something more dramatic and gothic. The first time I ever caught the show, it was near the end of Awakenings 5. And I was thinking it was by Bruce Timm or Paul Dini (Batman:TAS makers). I was shocked when I saw the credits end with "Buena Vista Television". I couldn't believe that came from Disney. But then again, look at Black Cauldron. Disney had dealt the dark before. And they can do it just as good as the other guys. It's just a rare occassion that Disney deals in gothic dramas.

But I would argue, none of the Final Fantasy characters fit into Kingdom Hearts. The game would be so much better if it was just the Disney characters and Disney worlds and a single, new character created to be the player. But that's the opinion of a person who's never played a Final Fantasy game.
If there's one thing I know, it's that licenced properties are monitored by the rights owners like a hawk (there's all sorts of stories about difficulties between Hasbro and the recent Transformers comics). I'm also sure Disney will be a much more difficult taskmaster than Hasbro to please. So I wouldn't worry about characters or stories being off-model or inappropriate/seeming not to conform to the films.
I'm interested and I'll try out all of the series. The ones that interest me the most though are the Wonderland comic and the Gargoyles one.
I also would like to start collecting some Mickey Mouse and Uncle Scrooge again and it would be nice if they released nice massive sets of these although they may do that and I may not know it.
So Disney liscenced it's characters to SLG. Sometimes I wonder why they don't start up their own, Disney Comics line that they produce. You'd think they would have the ability to do that. With their four SLG titles, the Mickey Mouse titles, their purchase of Crossgen and all of the interesting movies they created you would think they could start their own line and with their Disney Stores, theme parks and name they could really do wonders for the comic book industry.
