Any Gilmore Girls fans?

Post by MissV327 »

Hey everybody. Is anyone a Gilmore Girls junkie like I am? :D The third season comes out on DVD this Tuesday and I am so happy! I am buying it for myself as a treat for surviving another semester of college. Finals are next week so THAT should be fun though.

I'm a huge Gilmore Girls fan. I accidentally caught an episode or two a few years ago and really liked what I saw, but didn't continue watching because I hate joining in tv shows in the middle of their run. Once I found out that ABCFamily would be showing the re-runs in chronological order every weekday, I figured it was the perfect time to join in. Through these re-runs I became an official Gilmore fan and was able to catch up with the show's current season thanks to downloaded episodes. I currently own both seasons 1 and 2 on DVD and plan to buy season 3 eventually (there are too many releases at the moment that I need to get first). The writing on the show is absolutely delicious, and the actors have the perfect timing in saying these lines. My favorite form of comedy is witty banter, so you can see why I love the show so much since that's exactly the kind of comedy it is (with lots of drama thrown in for good measure). I wish there were more movies with this type of humor since all you ever see nowadays is slapstick or gross-out humor.

Lorelai is a 32-year old single mom who had her daughter Rory at the age of 16 (Rory is that age at the start of the series). Rory is extremely bright but doesn't quite fit in at her public school. She's obsessed with reading, and she and her mother share more of a sister/sister relationship than mother/daughter. Rory's dream is to be able to go to Harvard after graduating high school. When she's accepted into the prestigous private school Chilton, Lorelai needs to find a way to pay the hefty tuition fee since her job as an inn manager doesn't have the best salary. In desperation, she goes to her parents for help. Lorelai and her parents have a fairly non-existant relationship. They wanted a proper upper class life for her, but her personality didn't fit that at all. When she got pregnant, her parents wanted her to marry Christopher (the boy who got her pregnant), but she didn't love him and ended up running away to raise Rory by herself. Lorelai and her parents come to the agreement that if she and Rory attend dinner at her parent's house every Friday night, then they will pay for Rory's tuition. Lorelai reluctantly agrees, and the whole series deals with all the various relationships that go on (Rory and Lorelai, Lorelai and her parents, Rory and her grandparents, Lorelai and Christopher. Rory and her many boyfriends, Lorelai and HER many boyfriends, etc.). The first three seasons deal with Rory's high school years while seasons four and five deal with her college years. If you have no time to watch the show, you could always read episode transcripts online here (which would enable you to watch the witty humor better): http://www.twiztv.com/scripts/gilmoregirls/

Wow...this sounds a lot like the book series The Princess Diaries. I'll watch next week's show.

Thanks for the overview.

Wonderful description, Disneykid! :thumb: I could not have described it better myself. Do you have a favorite episode? I think mine would have to be either Raincoats and Recipes (season 4 finale) or Rory's Dance from season 1.

Thanks, MissV! I absolutely love Raincoats and Recipes, but for some reason I have a really hard time choosing a favorite episode. Every season finale is so excellent in its own way. I do know that some of my favorite episodes include (in chronological order since it's to hard to rank them):

Rory's Dance
Forgiveness and Stuff
Presenting Lorelai Gilmore
A-Tisket A-Tasket
A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving
Dear Emily and Richard
Luke Can See Her Face
Raincoats and Recipes
You Jump, I Jump, Jack
Wedding Bell Blues

Yeah, choosing a favorite is far too hard... :D

Yeah, I know what you mean about picking a favorite. :P It's just too hard! The two episodes I mentioned are my "favorites of the moment". It changes day to day depending on what mood I'm in. I SO loved A-Tisket-A-Tasket and Luke Can See Her Face. SO cute in their own special ways! :D Are you getting Season 3 on Tuesday?

Gilmore Girls

Post by Joshrzmeup »

I'm a new Gilmore Girls fan. I saw the dvd's at a video store and so I bought them and truly enjoyed it. I had never seen a full eposide. I remember seeing bits and pieces of episodes, but that was it. So, I then got season 2 as well. I've tried to watch what I can on abc family and read about what I missed.
It's a great show that gives you a waffy feeling inside.

I'd like to, but it's either buy Gilmore Girls or buy (together) Lemony Snicket, Pocahontas, and The Phantom of the Opera. Since Season Three is still pretty fresh in my mind from the ABCFamily re-runs a couple of months ago, I can wait a while to buy it (plus I want Poca and Phantom very badly). I may pick it up over the summer. Keeping up with TV shows on DVD is so expensive. Right now I'm trying to keep up with Friends, Gilmore Girls, and The Golden Girls, and soon I'll have to keep up with Bewitched and The Cosby Show (and maybe I Love Lucy). It'll never end!

Gilmore Girls is my MOST favorite show. My best friend Cassie and I have little parties at my apartment every Tuesday night that there is a new episode on. So every time a new Gilmore Girls DVD comes out I have to buy it.

I know what you mean about tv shows on dvd being expensive. I don't buy them too often myself. Besides Gilmore Girls, I get Friends, Home Movies, and some other shows that don't make it past their first season (like Wonderfalls). But I haven't bought the last two seasons of Friends. I'm waiting for the 10th season to come out so I can get (hopefully) a discount at Best Buy.

Most of the tv I watch is on DVD, so I never saw this untill I bought season 1 a week ago. I just finished watching Rory's Dance, and I've loved every episode so far. This is getting to be my favorite show! :D

It may be just me, but does anyone else think that Lorelai and Rory look like they're exactly the same age!

I also love this show. I started watching when I found out the Family Channel was starting over from the beginning episode. I've only seen up until half way through the 3rd season and then I watch the new episdoes on the WB every week, so I'm missing some stuff in between and can't wait to find out what happens to get where they are now.
I plan on getting them on DVD later on, maybe if they ever drop in price or theres a really good sale on them.

I can honestly say I LOVE this show!

I only got into it a year ago, so I am a "newbie", I guess, when it comes to being a fan.

I pine for the season 1 and season 2 (AND season 3!) dvd sets... but at the moment I only have the money to purchase National Treasure.

Hmm.. methinks I should suggest the DVDs as gifts for Christmas... or my birthday.

Disneykid..thanks for the scripts site...it's come in handy...

Can anyone give me any good sites for GG besides ABC Family and the WB site? Cause those don't do a very good job, imo.
