Antonius- the 45th classic?
Have any of you heard about this movie?
He says that it is about a leopard in Egypt.
My friend says that it is the 45th classic..,
after the 44th classic "Home of the range".
And he said that it will come out November 2004.
Then we will get two classics in 04, like we got in 02.
I must say that I haven`t heard anything about this Antonius..?
I don`t know if this is true myself..

Here's the current information:

However, rumours are that this had been canned. The fact animated movies doesn't list a release date or director doesn't look good. Neither has the fact that nobody has mentioned this film when discussing the alledged closure of Disney 2D animation (but Home on the Range is mentioned)
It is possible that the film may have gone into developement, but was never progressed far enough to be greenlit as an actual feature. The same is probably true of Stoneflight, which was optioned, but no progress seems to have been reported since.

Unless you don't consider CGI to be classic worthy (Disney certainly didn't consider Dinosaur number worthy!).
Maybe Home on the Range will be the end.
I always knew cows would be present at the end.

So you have that dream as well?
I think the end is nigh...
Especially if we are all having prophetic (pathetic?) visions of cows at the end of the world.
It's in Revelations people!

Number list
From what I have been gathering from various websites, here is the current list:
43) Brother Bear - Fall 2003
44) Home On The Range - Summer 2004
Pixar - The Incredibles - Fall 2004
Pixar - Cars - Summer 2005?
45) Chicken Little - Fall 2005?
46) Angel And Her No Good Sister - Summer 2006?
47+) Fantasia III, Antonius, Rapunzel, Snow Queen, Three Pigs, etc.
Pixar's "Cars", "Angel", and "Chicken Little" could all possibly be switched around.
Chicken Little will be the first in-house Disney animated movie on the list to be done completely in 3-D (since Dinosaur didn't count in the number list). Angel is mostly 3-D with some 2-D....but Home On The Range is currently the last scheduled 2-D Disney film. But this can always change down the road

#50 apparently was meant to be "The Search for Mickey Mouse" in 2012 featuring a least a passing appearance by a character from each of the previous 49.
Other Notes:
Claims Fantasia III (or Fantasia 2006) renamed "The Music Project"
The other 2 films lsited on the way to #50:
Fraidy Cat
Rupunzel
plus Gnomeo and Juliet - outsourced to Rocket Pictures

Captain Hook

I don't think Disney will go through with changing the name of "Fantasia 3" to The music Project. I think they should only make one more Fantasia movie, and call it The Fantasia Finale.
Also, Disney does consider Dinosaur, the Pixar films, and all its "package features" as full-length animated classics. At least, Disney Magazine does, and they don't get away with anything unless it's Disney approved.

Pixar films aren't really "Disney films" in this s
Well, the Pixar films definitely don't belong in that group since Disney animators did not work on those projects.Prince Adam wrote:Also, Disney does consider Dinosaur, the Pixar films, and all its "package features" as full-length animated classics. Well, on most of the lists I have read, the Pixar, "package", and Dinosaur films have been included. That makes Monsters Inc the 45th Animated Classic, and that makes Disney's idea for the Search for Mickey Mouse to be for Mickey's 75th birthday and also be the 50th animated classic more realistic.

That's odd b/c on all the lists I have seen on the Internet never includes Dinosaur or the Pixar movies. I remember receiving an 'official' checklist in some of the video inserts a couple years back, and it's the same list like on this website.
I actually heard a couple years back that Disney decided to can the list because they were coming out with too many animated features, and it got confusing. Is Dinosaur on the list? Is Return To Neverland on the list? What about 1995's A Goofy Movie, or Toy Story?
I don't know if it is true that they discontinued the list...but even if they did that doesn't stop any of us fans from counting. This is probably why Disney Magazine referred to the Pixar movies as animated classics, or why Toy Story, A Bug's Life, and A Goofy Movie were part of the dvd Gold Collection. Also look at the fact that new dvd releases never mention what 'number' in the writing on the back of the dvd. The newest releases don't say "Now on dvd is Walt Disney's 10th animated classic", or anything like it. They just want each movie to stand on its own.
As for The Search For Mickey: I have no clue if this project will make it out next year. Is Feature working on this, or is DTV? I know for a fact that "The Three Musketeers" is coming out next year for Mickey's 75th...but I don't think 'Search' will end up being the 50th (especially if what I said above about them stopping the list is true).
As for 'stopping' the list after 'Home On The Range'...I don't believe it should. Although 2-D is on hiatus right now...there is still a chance it might come back in the future. "Chicken Little", although CGI, looks very promising. If they do it right and give it the same look that Fantasia 2000's "Soldier" segment had with its 3-D, then you have a pretty great, 2-D like movie. Just remember, as long as the story is good, then who cares what medium the movie is in. "Dinosaur" and "Final Fantasy" were both gorgeous, photo-realism movies...but they both bombed because of crappy storylines.
Sorry this is so long...I have a lot to say about this subject LOL

Just for your information Disney France is including all animated features on a list - according to them Treasure Planet is number 68 in the animated films list.

But there's a big difference between the animated films list (which could include every DTV and animated classic) and the full-length animated classics list.

Its strange France should do that when the rest of the world has the 42 range. Its not just on web sites that these numbers come into play, their on the spines/backs of the DVD's and some later trailers (Little Mermaid, Rescuers Down Under, Beauty and The Beast) mention their official numbers.
BTW just because WDF animation is going over to CGI movies after "Home On The Range" is doesn't mean they'll stop the so called "Classics". I bet they just keep the numbers going on with the CGI movies as well.

Matty - Disney France still number their releases on the spine - they just happen to use the longer list.
I know that the whole list is different to the 'Classic' list used in the UK and US. But Disney France doesn't feel the need to seperate them into so-called 'classics', 'masterpieces' or whatever.
And I agree with them. Just because something is done by Feature Animation doesn't make it any better than something not done by Feature Animation.
(I know technically it does, having a bigger budget and all that - but that's not my point. I enjoy the Goofy Movie (for example) much more than some so called 'classics').
