The Avatar Request Thread (Yup, I'm a nerd)

Post by Just Myself »

I am now turning this into an avatar request thread. The original first post is quoted below.
I originally wrote:I have a request. There's a picture about the 'ASS' triangle theorem at the bottom of this page, and I was wondering if there's any way to convert this and the text into avatar form. It would be greatly appreciated. :)

By the way how do you shrink those big pictures into avatars? It would be very helpful! Thanks! :)

You save it as a .gif, resize it in a program such as JASC Animation Shop. 8)

Well sorry if I'm still confused :? , but I have two questions!

1. Can Adobe Photoshop work?

2. What does .gif stand for?

Thanks for giving me this information without me going to read it in some book. :P

1. Adobe Photoshop can work. You have to add layers (copy and paste images) onto the main image and then save the file for the web. Check animate, and then loop.. should be good to go. (this explanation probably sucks.. I apologize for that.)

2. .gif stands for "Graphics Interchange Format". .gif are based on indexed colors, which is a collection of at most 256 colors.

Well, what's the difference between .gif and .jpg?

.jpg (or .jpeg) stands for "Joint Photographic Experts Group" (name of the company that invented jpgs). JPGs are not limited to a certain amount of color, such as .gif images.

Hope this answered your questions!

I thought only .jpg or are allowed as avatars, cuz I can't get .gif's or .bmt (well .bmt's are too big) to work. I can't even to get them to work as a siggy.

Uploading the .gif to a site such as photobucket or imageshack. I recommend using Photobucket ;)

For an avatar, you can paste the url in the "Link to off-site Avatar:" Box. Should work. Same goes for Siggy! URL placed in between

Well sorry to say, even though I said it was helpful last post, I still need help! Now that I know how to make an image, I really want to know how you can make an image smaller with Photoshop!

I use photobucket but I still can't get .gif's to work for a siggy. I dunno, to me it's not a big deal. But I would like a image for my siggy. I've been using some web-site where I kinda funkify my name and they store them into a .gif. I've been trying to find a site that will store it as a .jpg. Then I got a .gif to .jpg converter, downloaded it, but that doesn't work either. So I'm really at a loss here.

I saw the title of this thread and was expecting a confession, not an avatar request.

it's pretty easy...just go to IMAGE -> Image Size
change the dimensions and resample the image
