Taco Bell: A real taco?

Post by Isidour »

hi everybody:
--Hi dr. nick--

I was just watching the other day the KTLA when a Taco Bell spot hit my screen.

It seems than what you call a Taco it´s made of a hard tortilla*--I supposed fried--with chicken or cow meat and lettuce, tomato, cheese and I don´t know what many many crazy ingredients.

I, as a Mexican Taco ambassador I can tell you this:

1.-The Taco is no more than a minidisk-like little tortilla
2.-The Tacos have double tortilla, and a thin one
3.-The Taco is composed of meat than can be:
*Al pastor--cooked in low fire in a slow-spinning lathe with pineapple over the meat
*Chorizo--A kind of sausage, just than it´s red and when you cook it it falls apart--
*Labio--Cow´s lip--
*Panza--Cow´s guts--
*Nana--You don´t wanna know--
*Diezmillo--the normal steak--
4.-The Taco only has as "veggie" or "adds-on" cilantro--don´t know the name on english-- and onion--in little pieces, not all the ring--
5.-You don´t put a "secret sauce" or something to it, just guacamole or chile--tabasco sausage made with habaneros--
6.-You eat it with your hands, not with a fork
7.-For God´s sake, who was the "genius" who put cheese on it?
8.-If you want to eat real Tacos--and not that crap the stupid dog sells-- come to México, and if you can, see the Mayan pyramids, the Caribbean beaches, the great Cenotes--you will enjoy it--and of course a real Taco place--where you can eat 10 tacos for less than 3 bucks--

I hope than this has helped someone, and the next time you see a Taco Bell, please notice than that´s not a real Taco

I would say that most items at Taco Bell would not even qualify as real food, much less real tacos.

Don't worry..I'm down with the real Mexican food! 8)
- Carne Asada Fries, Carne Asada Burrito, Rolled Tacos, and my favorite, California Burrito! :D

Isidour, I don't need to go to México. I'm already near Baja California. :)

You would think I'm Mexican, but I'm not...just living in the San Diego area.

I only went to Taco Bell once. I had a bean burrito and it tasted good but I prefer my mom's burritos....

I prefer Taco Bell as a quick means of getting dinner when I'm out and about. :)

But here in Monterey (California) we have a lot of locally owned restaurants. And the food is great!

And you should try the medio metro burritos:

It´s a 50cm long tortilla filled with one or two of these:

Frijoles refritos--normal beans, just squashed--
Barbacoa--goat meat in chile sauce--but not too "hot"--
Carne con papas--Steak meat with potatoes in steak juice
Chorizo--discussed already--

served hot and ready to eat.

I don't eat Toca Bell under assumption that I am eating authentic mexican. I only eat it because it is cheap, and quick. If I want real mexican than I will go to an authentic mexican restaurant.

Monterrey does have the best food I have ever had. Really like that place out at the end of the pier.

I don't think I ever ordered anything from Toco Bell. If I want a good barrito, I go to Chipotle, they make excellent barritos and tacos. Or sometimes I go to Three Margaritas, there food is alright.
Anyways what does nana mean? You hit my curiosity bone, now I have to know... or do I? :shifty:

not to diss your food but i don't like mexican food! The spices are way to spicy for my stomach to handle. also is too greasy. Also i dont see México been a country i would visit for the beaches. I rather go to hawaii, brazil, cuba, PR. no offense :)

I think that Chipotle is a lot better. It's kinda like subway. You go in and they heat your tortillas(which are huge) and you ask them what kind of burrito you want. I always get the chicken fajita with rice. Then you tell them what you want on it like I usally order the hot salsa, with cheese, and sour cream. Mmmm-mmmm, it's making me hungry writing this. And the best part is students get a free drink. All for under $6, pretty good price for high quality burritos.

Taco Bell is okay. The reason for the cheese is that consumers want it. During taste tests, a lot of their food rates higher when it has cheese. They had an episode about it on Unwrapped, on the Food Network.

We have a little Mexican restaurant here call Los Aztecas that serves heaping plates of food, good stuff. For good burritos there is a chain here in the Northeast called Baja Fresh that is really good. We used to have a chain restaurant called Chi-Chi's, but they went out of business due to many people contracting hepatitus at one of their restaurants in Pittsburgh. Two other good places are Desert Moon and Don Pablos.

I live in the Northeast also, and I was wondering why Chi-Chi's went out of bussiness, I used to like that place. Don Pablos is pretty good, and here in Delaware we have this restaurant called Borders, it's more of Tex-Mex restaurant though.
