Universal's Ultimate Editions

Post by Escapay »

American Pie
American Pie: Unrated
Legend
Meet Joe Black
Notting Hill
Patch Adams

Am I missing any? I remember seeing MJB, NH, and PA at a Shop-Rite near Jane's college (and they all were only $9.99 each), but that's the only time I've seen them. I'd really like to get MJB and NH's Ultimate Edition, probably cause I don't like getting single-disc versions if there's a two-disc out.

Why doesn't Universal release those Ultimate Editions anymore? Only Legend is still being released, but there are rumors that a single-disc re-release is being planned. I'm guessing it'll contain the Director's Cut and perhaps some of the bonus features. Or it'll be separate releases (one of the Director's Cut and one of the Theatrical Cut, which I like better).

Maybe because they got most of these right the first time. They're essentially repackagings / repromotions, since as new releases they're bound to give a bunch of people a new look at an already pretty solid DVD.

Yeah, but the Ultimate Editions of MJB, NH, and PA offer more than their single-disc counterparts (which I believe were released after the UE's?).

I wouldn't mind a 2-disc Ultimate Edition of Somewhere In Time (and maybe they'll make it anamorphic).

Actually, that article's about MGM and United Artists. Universal's still alive and kicking.

The Mummy was also released as an ultimate edition.
