Brother Bear 2

Post by Kenai »

Well, now we officially know it's in the middle phases of production, almost done. The New York Times ran an article a few months back that BB2 had begun production about June of last year, with for sure (naturally), Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis reprising thier roles, as well as Jeremy Suarez. The rest of the cast is still way too early to list yet, but let's hope Joaquin Phoenix returns. He made a great Kenai.

It was also stated (I forgot the link) that Mark Mancina is currently in the final stages of producing BB2's score.

Apart from that, that's all I know about. Is there any other tidbits to be shared?

Why does Disney have to make a sequel for every movie

Brother Bear is one of my favorites and I don't want a sequel ruining the great way it ended.

NO MORE SEQUELS! I hope Disney makes this one good since I really enjoyed Brother Bear. But then again seeing all the classic they've destroyed with sequels, this one probably won't be much different.

Welcome to the forums, Kenai!

As much as I adored Brother Bear, I'd be ANGRY about a sequel to the movie. What would it be about? :(

Seriously, Disney is running out of "new" ideas, they always make sequels! Geez, for once...can't they have someone who thought like Walt and believed sequels shouldn't be made and that "new" ideas should be thought up!

There's a thread like this...discussed long time ago, found here!

Well, out of all the films, I think Brother Bear most warrants a sequel. Logically the ending was complete rubbish, and raised so many questions.

Why couldn't he turn back into a human and still look after Koda?
What happens when Koda grows up?
Will he not he get lonely as a bear?
Will he fit in with the other bears?
How will he adjust to his new life?

etc.

Yes, I think BB2 could be one of the best sequels, simply for these reasons. The ending was far from a "happily ever after" one.

Goodness, 2099net! You've persuaded me that a Sequel is necessary for Brother Bear! :o
You brought good reasons...dangit! :p
(And no, I'm not being sarcastic! :) You've made good points )

I'm sure it won't be a terrible sequel but there is just no point in having one. Most of the things 2099net listed are known and have been seen in the first movie.

Thanks for the welcome ^_^

And as for what it'll be about, word from jimhillmedia.com reported back in Feburary might be is that it'll focus on Rutt and Tuke, ala Lion King 1 1/2 did with T&P, and get this, he also said that it might be...3-D. O_o

But I doubt that part about the 3-D, we'll just see....

I really like Rutt and Tuke but I still don't think this is a good idea.
Hopefully it's not as bad as Lion King 1 1/2.

well, It wasn't just the ending I thought was completely rubbish, it was the entire 3rd act of the film. Particularly the confession sequence. They cheapened out of it by using a song to make the confession mysterious and politically correct. It could have been a lot more powerful, had Kenai simply said the actual words "Koda, I killed your mom, she's not coming back" It's extremely cruel, but honest. I also thought "No Way Out" was the worst song of the entire soundtrack. It really is very clear how they had to rush this film when it's release date was moved a year forward. Only so the entire team could be let go. If they had gotten the time to make the film they wanted to make, it could have been as good as Mulan and Lilo and Stitch, maybe even better. Now it's a mixed bag. Some scenes are wonderful and have amazing art direction, no doubt. But then, at some points (particularly near the end of the film) they began to re-use parts of the score and even the animation (I thought we never had to experience that again after the 70's). The character animation at the end of the film also feels rushed. Especially compared to certain scenes earlier in the film (the encounter with the moose and the killing of Koda's mom) wich had clearly been animated before they started to rush things, since those look amazing. Overall, I find this film a real impressive effort. Just not quit up there. I hope if they're doing a sequel (and I agree this film lends itsself and raised a LOT of questions) that the animation will look top notch and better than the original. Because they can make nice looking sequels. I just wish they'd stick to films that lend themselves for it, like Brother Bear, The Rescuers or Great Mouse Detective. Leave Cinderella alone for the love of all that is good and great. just my two cents, sorry for the rambling, I have gone on long enough now.

p.s./edit: forgot to mention, if this is going to deal with Rutt and Tuke in a Lion King 1 1/2 kind of way I will support it all the way. The Rutt and Tuke audio commentary is the greatest piece of comedy since Emperor's New Groove. LOVE those animals :D

I agree with Netty. So many of the Disney animated classics had definitive ends and the sequels were forced.

Brother Bear did not have a definitive end, in fact there is a logical next stage and new story for Kenai now that he has made his decision.

I wasn't really fond of the first film, so I don't think I'd waste money buying this. Unless it actually looks interesting in the commercials, which I doubt. :headshake:

Well, I've liked the sequels for the most part, but I was bored all the way through the first one.

Kenai couldn't stay human and watch over Koda because they wouldn't be able to communicate with each other.

Also, I love "No Way Out" and feel that the confession was more powerful with limited hearing of what was being said. Koda's "I don't like this story" is a classic line to me. It's much more powerful for me to have my imagination figure out what was said than to hear what was said and have it all decided for me.

I only have one problem with the storyline, and that's the opening part about the story taking place back when mammoths were still around, yet by the looks of things, the story took place a few decades earlier at the most. And my only other complaint is that I really am not too fond of those stupid moose whom I shall never learn to spell their names. R&T were so freakin annoying.

I was unaware about the release date being moved up a year. With how much I love Brother Bear now, I can only imagine how much I would have loved it if they had an additional year to make it even better than it already is. Or maybe the year would have been spent adding in more R&T scenes... *shudder*

As most of you all ready know I'm probably going to rent/buy this movie when it comes out. I don't know why people trash all these sequels I think they're good. But maybe that's just because I am a very easy guy to please.

I loved Brother Bear, and I don't really mind that they're making a sequel,as long as they can come up with a decent story...

As for the original,I loved ALL the songs, including "No Way Out"...Kenai's confession always makes me sad, even though you can't hear most of the words(although, one of the special features on the DVD is that you can hear Kenai's confession without the song;I forget where it is on the DVD,I think it's under deleted scenes)...

Tell me about it. The animation was probably the worst of any the movie-based shows and Jane looked weird. She was a little too pale.
