Post counts?

Post by nachonaco »

Is anyone else having trouble with post counts?

tsk tsk..:headshake:
post counts are no longer counted in the GAMES thread.
but why count posts? this forum's so interesting to type in! 8-)
Luke wrote:From now on, posts made in the Polls & Games section won't increase your post count. This modification doesn't seem to be retroactive, but there are still a few big threads I want to address.

Assuming you're all posting in these threads for fun, then the change in post counts shouldn't affect play at all. But I figured I'd let you know!

I have written like 7 replies to different topics and my number stays the same. I don't know if it's a problem on my end or not would someone please give me some advice?

Edit: It went up after I posted a thread but doesn't when I reply for some reason.

Disneyfan, if you're talking about posting in the Polls&Games part of UD.Com, posts aren't counted for that! :headshake:

Rather than start a new thread, I'll ask my question here. Can someone tell me why my post count is decreasing? Yesterday, I noticed that I had 484 posts, and earlier today I noticed I had 444 posts. Naturally, I assumed that I must have looked at the number wrong. But a few minutes ago, I posted in another thread and the count was 440 posts. So obviously I am not hallucinating. Is anyone else's post count going down or is it just mine? Now I know post counts aren't important (and I rarely ever notice mine), so please nobody fuss at me for bringing this up. I just want to make sure that I'm not going crazy.

My guess is that it's one of three things:

(1) Some of your posts have been deleted, or are in threads that have been deleted

(2) Some of your posts have been moved to Polls & Games, which perhaps makes them not count anymore, even if they once did?

(3) Your posts were in Polls & Games before that forum stopped counting, and that change didn't apply to pre-existing posts there (I don't know if that's how it worked or not)... and those posts/threads are now being deleted as part of the clean-up.

Luke is indeed cleaning up the Polls & Games forum right now. I've lost a couple posts as well.

Thanks for the quick response everyone. Glad to see that I am not going crazy. I didn't realize Luke had already begun the deletion process in Polls & Games. That defiantly would explain the dramatic post decrease of mine. Most of my posts last year were in that forum during the survivor games.

I forget what I was at. I haven't been paying much attention but I'm at 1425 before this post. So now if I go down I'll have my old post count on record. :)

Don't worry. The posts that are getting deleted are just votes for multi-round survivors or the initial post which would be repeated elsewhere. The first and last round of the games remain, and even if there's something that's like discussion, I'm breaking it off and merging it. For instance, in the Cover Art Survivor, there was some genuinely insightful comments about cover design that I wouldn't want to be lost, so they're now part of the first round. Fifteen posts saying "Mulan" or "The Lion King" or "Step by Step"? They're just taking up space in the database, though, and not really for any reason. Had Polls & Games not counted all along, the counts would be unaffected, but as it is, you may be losing some of your number but none of your best contributions to the forum. Fear not!

It's good that the actual discussions will be kept. It wouldn't be much of a forum if people's opinions were erased. I'm glad I joined after the polls & games section's posts were made not to count.
