Justice League (discussion)

Post by Evil Genie Jafar »

I recently went into this fever of this series after renting some DVDs.

When it was first released on Cartoon Network I couldn't believe how good this was. Now, after watching these DVDs... I still find their quality unbelievable and more so, adult oriented (in terms of the quality in animation and the well done scripts and stories). I found myself hooked to the TV in a way that I wasn't thinking it was animated not even a superhero thing... I was hooked by the quality of the series.

Yesterday when I rented Star crossed the movie I wasn't expecting too much of it. I tought it was going to be just a lenghty episode or just so so because of its 70 min. HOW WRONG I WAS!!! The movie was incredible well done, with unexpected turns and an even more surpising ending.

Today I rented Justice League Unlimited. I was very impressed by it. And it was extremely fun to watch. The quality in animation was overflowing in every scene; they must have a big budget. But... I hope this is another series and not the new regular Justice League (I don't have cable). Unlimited is good but just for the action and the superheroes of course. The main problem here is that since those are the main characteristics of the show there's no room for better stories and we can't get to know deeply these characters.

In terms of DVDs it is very shameful that WB hasn't already released these series as box sets. As they very well deserve it. There are just a couple of them and they only have 4 episodes each.

There's only one box set with 3 DVDs for $32-$34. And altough each DVD can be bought for $15 (meaning one is free) I still don't think its worth it. For example:each Family Guy set can be bought for $45 and have 23 episodes.

Absolutely. It is amazing at how perfect the WB animated comic series are, and how wrong they get it on the big screen (e.g. Catwoman, Batman & Robin). It is ironic that they don't dumb it down for the kids, but feel the need to do so for the adults!

Justice League Unlimited will always be special to me as it was the first time my favourite DC hero - Green Arrow - was brought to life for my audio/visual enjoyment, and they nailed him. Bringing in JLA/JSA favourites in the last two seasons was a masterstroke, and has futher expanded their storytelling potential. However, as you say - with so many characters to get through, let us hope they don't sacrifice characterisation for gimmick.

The only criticism I could make it toward the DVDs: single volumes with only THREE episodes per disc? WB are proving they can do quality sets - Batman: TAS and Superman: TAS - yet continue to release sub-par sets. Surely 5 episodes is a bare minimum for a single disc. I will buy the first and second volumes of JLU (for the Green Arrow content - I believe he is also in episode 6), but let us all hope the boxes aren't too far behind.

Yeah, I don't know what their deal is either. These spotty DVD releases really should stop. Put out a season set or volume already.

And don't let me get started about the way Cartoon Network shows 'em.

And the funny thing is that I went to an unofficial site where they have a list of episodes and they have just made 2 seasons and in the middle of the third. So it's not like they can't make the sets.

I have to get into this show more. Watched one with Green Arrow, Black Canary and Wildcat(love those golden agers) on the weekend and it was absolutely fantastic in story and animation.

At one time I had a full run of Justice League comics back to Brave and the Bold 28 but I stopped collecting when I had some money problems about four or five years ago and never went back.

I've often wondered that myself.. Unless (Most likely) going for the money side of it.. Push out a few DVD's like you mentioned.. and after sales quiet down, annouce full season releases.. knowing that the fans will pick it up to have the box set..

Ahhh, double dipping. A strategy usually used when something has a high proportion of fantatical followers as opposed to casual fans(yeah I know fan is short for fanatical).

eg Twilight Zone, Star Trek.

I bought the first two Justice League four episoders but have been holding off since in anticipation of season sets.

Well the single disc releases are usually aimed at kids or people who like the series but don't want to buy the full season sets and it's to test the waters a bit or so I have been told but that all makes perfect sense. Too many people complain about these kind of releases but I guess they have a right to complain.

I enjoy Justice League like every other WB show like it. Justice League Unlimited looks like it could be the last in the line though. ...which is sad. I want to see Supergirl get her own series or direct to video animated movie like Batman. (The reasons why: Paul Dini left the WB and look at Teen Titans, the Batman and the Krypto show... cool and all but I loved the era that is now passing)

anyways I like Justice League Unlimited a little more than the original incarnation. I like the theme song more and I like how it delves into a wide variety (unlimited :p) amount of characters. :)

I really like the original episodes of Justice League with the seven original members. Justice League Unlimited is too much...for me.
Teen Titans and The Batman are also other great super heroes shows. :D

Note to The WB take out box sets!!!!

As a over 25 year fan of the Justice League, the more characters they can bring to life the better. Although I do sympathize with MMP if you are not a fan already figuring the personalities of all the players that do not appear regularly is probably pretty difficult.

After having bought the First Season and watching all the episodes of the set... I have to say again: WAO!!!

Surely they made some mistakes sometimes, as they said on the extras... but everything here screams: quality and respect for the audience

I was also surprised by the extras, few but right to the point. I now hope that on next releases they give us much more.

In this Season there are only 2 stories I didn't like:

A Knight with Shadows: I found it too messy. Like there's a lot going on and in the end is not worth it.

Metamorphosis: BORING!!!! Plus the story was shown in such a cliche manner (yeah I know, even for comic book characters) plus the character was just uninteresting, and ugly to look at.

And one that I found so so was: The Brave and the Bold this one, as Metamorphosis feel like stories they could have told in half an hour. In this case particularly, the first part had very little to offer.

Can it be possible that we could get one more Season of the show? I want one last one with 26 episodes and a mix of JL and UNLIMTED. By this I mean that I don't mind the whole DC universe of characters thrown together, but I also want several 1 hour stories... and at least 1 or 2 episodes with just the original group. That would make me happy.
