Stores are Removing Gold Collection DVD's????

Post by Disney Villain »

Today i went to Wal Mart to purshace The Incredibles. While i was there i was looking for Hercules on DVD and Huncback on DVD. I purshaced the Hunchback and The Incredibles. I asked an employee about Hercules, they checked the computer and said that certain Gold Collection DVD's were no longer being sold as of March 2005. They said that Disney told them to remove Pocahontas Gold Collection, Herecules Gold Collection, and a few more Gold Collections until further notice. I went to BJ's Wholesale Club, and they said the same thing. What does this mean? Is it true? Was it a mistake? Why? :? :? :?

I agree.
This could be a sign for new editions to come! :D

Well, <i>Pocahontas</i>' discontinuance is logical, since they're not going to have two different DVDs (one awesome, one rather lame) on the market at the same time and same price. Just as how Gold Collection DVDs of <i>Mary Poppins</i> and <i>Alice in Wonderland</i> were discontinued to make way for the better versions.

I haven't heard about <i>Hercules</i> going out of print. But it's the only one of the original Limited Issues that hasn't been upgraded or discontinued. It wouldn't surprise me and most of us assume it will get better treatment at some time within the next two years.

Thanks for sharing this information!

Woohooo! Hercules may be coming soon (maybe even this year?)! That's very exciting- it's my #1 pick for the next animated classic to get 2-Disc treatment (outside of the ones that have already been announced). Any chance you remember any of the other titles being discontinued?

oh wow! :o
I hope that means the 2-Disc SE is coming soon! :D
that'd be sooo great! :) I think that's one movie that should have a 2-Disc released immediately!

Wow, after reading that...I'm super excited now! :!:

Well, I'm taking this as good news, since Hercules is one of the few I've been holding out on for a special edition.

I hope we're right about this! :float:

Yes Wal Mart said The Aristocats, Robin Hood, and The Fox and the Hound were no longer being sold. Bj's said that they have not gotten new shipments of those titles in a while.

Well over the years I have noticed a trend in when these gold Editions come out. They pop up during certain seasons and then they go away for a while it could be that for some of the tittles like the Fox and the Hound and Robin Hood but Pochantas well thats logical and I am with everyone else I hope that Hercules will be the Surprise 2-disc realase this year :D (Like Mulan was last year)

Thanks. Interesting...hmmmm... upcoming anniversaries:

The Aristocats' 35th - 2005
Fox and the Hound's 25th - 2006
Hercules' 10th - 2007
Robin Hood's 35th - 2008

Now of course that doesn't mean Disney is sticking to an iron-clad anniversary release philosophy, but it could be a sort of guideline. I really hope Herc comes this year, though!

Heh. Except for Fox and the Hound, those are all titles I've been waiting to buy. I still have my VHS's and didn't think it would be worth upgrading to DVD until they offered some real special features.

Maybe you guys should check Target or Best Buy or even http://www.Amazon.com I just went last week to Target and Best Buy and I saw Hercules Gold Collection. I think only some stores are getting rid of the Gold Collection line.

Well I'm sort of not happy about this since I'm still trying to buy some of the Gold Collection releases. I know better versions may be on the way but I'm pretty impatient to buy 'Fun and Fancy Free', 'Robin Hood' and 'Hercules' and I doubt they would be re-released this year unless they will be coming to Blu-ray.

Meh not sure what to do. I know Wal-Mart Disneys seem to disappear fast but I've already gone doen that road too many times.

Do you think they'll release a better version of Fun & Fancy Free?
I Know they don't sell that in stores...we had to get our new one sealed on EBAY..it was only $10! Maybe you'll have luck there! :)

I hope one day there will be a new release. I haven't seen it in ages in any store except two but one is five hours up north and seems to have EVERY Gold Collection movie still and the other is quite close but it is going for $30 which is the msot I have ever seen for a Gold Collection movie.
