Online journals, anyone? (And my coloring sheets, too! LOL)

Post by Sunset Girl »

Hey there, I was just wondering how many people here have an online journal at a place like www.livejournal.com , and if so, were willing to share their user name.

I'm really debating on mine. I've had it for a several months and some of it is very personal, but sometimes I'm a little disappointed that only a handful of people read it. On the other hand, I don't exactly want to put it on display and make people think I'm only writing in it for attention or to get a reaction. And besides, mine has a lot of, well, inappropriate material, I guess. But I love having it. I love the indirect communcation it gives me with my friends. I love being able to write and display anything I want in it. I love being able to look back on old entries and remember things. And someday, I'll really be able to look back and see what type of person I "used to be."

Any thoughts?

I have one... but I don't use it everyday... it's basically a collection of letters to a long lost someone. Not very interesting

I'm just afraid that I come off as shallow or whiny in mine, LOL.

But it's been very healing for me to have it as an outlet, and for some reason it's a lot easier to keep than a "real" paper one. I wish I had a paid account so I could do more advanced searches of other people's, though. It would be interesting to find ones of people I know besides the three I already keep track of, hence this thread. :wink:

Oh, I don't know, maybe I'm looking for an excuse to say that I just posted this coloring sheet I made a while back in it today:

Yeah, I know; I'm lame, LOL! But I love the Last Unicorn. :wink:

I actually only have a deajournal journal. I used to go to this site called Stories.com, which became Writing.com but sinc eI couldn't keep my account upgraded I lost my journal, which was 601 entries plus part two which was about 120.

I have no one reading mine. Well one friend does sometimes, one never does anymore, another did once and my best friend always wanted to but when I gave her the link she never bothered to check it out.

I go on and on about nothing and since 2004 was a horrible year for me that just got wasted it is pretty dull. I'm thinking of reviving it since I'm thinking of reviving my life as well. :)

I wish i had a paid account to both live and dead journals since I want to find people near me. I need more friends cause I don't have many and the longest lasting friends I have are only from 2001.

Anyways nice Last Unicorn pic! I like the movie, have the crappy R1 DVD release although I am no superfan like many people I meet.

I love that unicorn, Sunset.

Anyway, I'm not the type of person to use blogs, though I do have one (I deleted all my past posts due to the overly emo nature of it--I am so over that stage in my life). I never write a thing in it anymore, though I sometimes enjoy keeping up with my friends' lives that way. I still talk in the livejournal communities though. XD~
Wherever. Whatever. Have a nice day.

I wandered over to Deadjournal a while back, and was disappointed that you have to pay for your account there. I know they have to cover the expenses of the site and everything, but still. . . I like it over in Livejournal where you have the option of having the paid account. I'm sure I'll spend the $25 or whatever on it eventually, but for now I'm being cheap, LOL! :lol:

Sometimes I do go on about nothing, but between losing my father to cancer and moving into a house of my own for the first time, I've had a lot happen in my life this past year and I've had some emotional things to contemplate and explore. I wanted to start one a long time ago, but my time on a computer was pretty random until I got a computer of my own. Anyway, they say keeping a journal is theraputic, and I need all the help I can get! I do a lot of whining and complaining on it but oh well, it helps me sort out my feelings. I need some place to be a drama queen, right?

If you have an account there and want to add me as a friend, please do. My user name is. . . deepamethyst. I still feel a little nervous about giving that out, so please be kind if you decide to visit. :huh:

I like how you can add friends and access a page of all their entries grouped together, and how you can even access the friends page of another friend and add comments to anyone's entry that allows it. But like I suggest in the above posts, I should point out there's some mature content in it. Some of it would qualify as R-rated material, but nothing worse than that. I just feel the need to say so because this is a family-friendly site! Anyway, I'd love to add to my list of friends so I'd have more to read on my friends page.

Thanks for the compliments. :) I went all-out and bought the official German DVD of "The Last Unicorn" earlier this year. I think I have a nostalgic attachment to the film more than anything else since I saw it so many times as a child, or maybe it's the design of the unicorn that I like so much. She is so gorgeous to me, in both unicorn and human form. I introduced the film to the kids I work with, and now they love it as well, so I had to make 'em a coloring sheet. It's so much fun!

I'm actually kind of a very private person. I don't think I would ever sign up to have my thoughts and experiences read by strangers. God only knows what kind of people read those entries anyway.

I am addicted to livejournal. It's quite sad. I even made a Bambi layout and the journal is Friends Only. Only people on my Friends list can see it (an option I really like).

If you care to see the layout, my LJ screen name is roman_pirate

Again, I'm not too worried about people on here visiting my journal because, muahaha, it's Friends Only. :D

In fact, this little chipmunk avater I am using? I made it for LJ.

LJ is a place where I go to when I'm bored. My father, as well, is diagnosed with cancer. However, I have a seperate private journal (a different account/screen name) where I write down what I'm feeling and what's going on with my life.

I'm getting more and more addicted. I finally sprung for the paid account mainly so I could use more than just 3 user pics, LOL. I also like the extended search options that go with it.

I love having the friends list. Most of my journal is public, but I've made the occasional "friends only" entries about very personal things.

One of my teachers once told me that the things you create are not really art unless you grant those creations an audience. Not that I'm much of a writer, mind you, but whenever I kept a paper journal I'd sometimes wonder what the point of it was if no one else was ever going to read it. I mean, it helped me figure things out, but what about the interaction I craved? I used to be so painfully shy. Of course, that's been a few years and now I'm become a lot more comfortable with myself. I find myself relating to other people's journals, and I hope they can do the same with mine. I had a lot of personal problems as a kid and I feel it's important to explore that and find ways to relate.

I think that using it has actually helped with my depression, too. It's like I need to make that connection with people to make up for lost time.

With all that being said, Disney animation was always my major escape. Watching Disney and other cartoons has had such a positive influence on me, and that's fun to share, too!

Sunset, did you draw that unicorn? Very good work! If it's yours, do you have more on display or willing to share?

Yep, that's my work. Thank you! And I love the way you colored her! :)

I wanna make a website and display all of my "coloring sheets" on it someday. I draw them all by hand for the kids I work with in an attempt to get them more interested in art. I've made well over a hundred of them by now.

Some people say there's nothing creative about teaching kids to color in the lines, but I try to be really interactive with them. I let them choose the next subject, and I show them step-by-step of how I draw it. And a lot of times, the kids are making their own attempts as I show them.

And once I've outlined it with marker, I make copies for everyone to color. I'll also make copies of the drawings that the kids have made, which is a real esteem-booster.

And when we get to actual coloring, I encourage them to get real crazy and creative with the colors they choose. Hence, there is no "right" color. And I also show them how I color with highlights and shadows, step-by-step. It's amazing how quickly they pick it up!

At one point in my life I wanted to work for Disney, but I think my new passion is teaching art.

Anyway, here's a few more examples; some of the scanning didn't work too well in the lower areas:

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... sheet4.jpg" alt="Make a man out of THIS?">
We have a thing for giving Mulan multi-colored hair, LOL!

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... sheet5.jpg" alt="Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming swimming swimming. . .">
You can tell this was an older sheet as I didn't always do my signature thin and thick lines back then.

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... sheet7.jpg" alt="Sanitized Tink">
I didn't make Tink quite as. . . detailed as the picture I was referencing. I usually make the lines a lot thicker, which I not only like the look of, but it makes it easier for little hands to color. But for this one, I felt it needed a more delicate touch.

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... sheet1.jpg" alt="Amber and Amethyst">
These are my characters; you can see a portion of this pic in my signature file below. This is actually altered a bit from the original sheet, which isn't quite as "busty."

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... sheet6.jpg" alt="Chibiusa">
This is Rini/Chibiusa from Sailor Moon. I reference these characters and others in order to raise culteral awareness with the kids.

<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/ ... ultdis.jpg" alt="Sailor Minnie Moon">
Okay, not exactly a coloring sheet, but this is a picture I drew in my computer (with a mouse) when I still had my free trial of Paintshop. It was my first UD avatar from back when we could carry a bigger size.

Oh, and I made my blinkie avatar that I'm currently using, too. :wink:

I really like your style! Keep posting them, I'll keep coloring them.. I did some coloring for a an online company I was partnered in, but unfortuantely we couldn't get it to the next level, but I still enjoy doing the electronic inking.. And your styles with the bold lines are fun to do :)

I applaud you for taking your talent to the children with a on hands direct approach!

Merged your topic with this existing thread on weblogs, DDMan. ;)

I have one too, actually. And I pay for the account, too - which is sad, since I don't post in it enough. :roll:

It's here, if anyone cares to look. :P
