Bedknobs and Broomsticks

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!...it sucks that it's usually forgotten due to "Mary Poppins", i love MP, but B&B is more a favorite of mine...The current DVD release seems really good, but does anyone know if Disney has given or expressed any interest in a more thorough edition down the road...i know it's hard to tell, but does anyone think they would?...i would love some retrospect on angela lansbury's behalf...

I also enjoy this movie thoroughly. I managed to score a free copy of the current DVD a few years back, through one of those "Buy a Disney DVD get one free" deals. I was a childhood favourite, and I think it holds up - even if it is just in terms of fun.

As for a new DVD, I guess anything is possible. While we haven't heard any official indication, next year is a 35th anniversary, and Disney likes to celebrate odd numbers like that. For a lesser (known) classic, the current DVD has some good feature, but there is certainly a lot more that could be included on a future release. Here's hoping!

I prefer it to Mary Poppins although I enjoy both. The biggest reason is I think Dick Van Dyke sounded terrible with his forced accent. Masterpiece no but as Loomis said fun and entertaining.

I enjoyed this movie also. The only thing is that it is soo long. After awhile I just get bored with it.

I like this movie a lot, but I however, prefere Mary Poppins higher over this. Maybe it is just me..

I, too, love this film more than Mary Poppins (relax, it's only slightly more). I think it's very possible that we'll see a 2-disc SE of this next year considering the current disc dates back to 2001. Also, Disney's running out of "big" live action catalogue titles to turn into SE's, so they'll have to come to this eventually.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks isn't as great as Mary Poppins but it still has some worthy moments.

To me Bedknobs and Broomsticks have been a much better film then Mary Poppins just because I saw that movie several times as a kid but I did not see Mary Poppins before I was older. Both are terrific movies and the only reason why Poppins are more famous then Bedknobs and Broomsticks is because the actors are more famous in Poppins.

hmm this thread gives me hope that there will be a special edition, so until then i will not buy the current version. I love mary poppins too, but this movie is just more "magical". lol

Another Movie i think deserves a second chance on DVD is Pete's Dragon, i love that flick.

I like both films,but enjoyed Mary Poppins more(I liked the songs better...and Dick Van Dyke as Bert;horrible accent,yes,but I still loved the character)....

I dont know if I have a pereference over this movie or Marry Poppins I love them both and myabe alose because I remember reading somewhere how this movie was orignally planned to be a sequal to Marry Poppins. I was actualy thinking a few days ago how cool it would be if Bedknobs and Broomsticks got a similar relase like that of Marry Poppins that would make me really happy and I think it would be a hit.

But thats just me.

I, too, am a big fan. More than Mary Poppins? Hmm... that's hard to say. Bedknobs holds a more special place in my heart just because I watched it so much as a child and because it isn't as popular as Mary Poppins, so it seems more endearing for some reason. I've always loved MP a whole lot too, though. I fully expect a 2-Disc SE in the near future, most likely next year. The prospect is very exciting, though I think I'd take Pete's Dragon first.

I usually preferred Mary Poppins over Bedknobs, but the past few years, I've been finding myself enjoying Bedknobs over Mary. Hmm. As for a two-disc, I'm all for it, so long as the first disc could contain the theatrical version and the restored version (via branching). But that's more just my curiosity at how a shorter version of Bedknobs would look, as I only remember ever seeing the restored version.

I bought B&B just last week for only $12 (pre-owned), and didn't even realize it was a restored/extended edition. I kept thinking, "Wow, I don't remember a lot of this movie." (The only thing that really stood out in my mind from my childhood was the soccer game.) And in some spots, the lip synch seemed off slightly, and even the voices sounded different -- I could've sworn I heard Jeff Bennett on there doing his John Cleese impression.

And then I watched the Sherman Bros documentary and it all became clear. It *WAS* Jeff Bennett -- they dubbed new ADR for the scenes that were added.

I don't see how much more they could include for a 2-disc SE -- it was all covered very well, I thought. But I agree that a release that includes the original theatrical version as well as the extended edition would be nice to have. Now that I've seen all the deleted stuff, I think I actually prefer the original, shorter version. But if they managed to find that other missing scene they talked about in the documentary, that would be a nice bonus for an SE.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks, along with Mary Poppins is my favourite live action movie from Disney. I really cannot say which film I prefer, as depending on my mood, these two switch places. I hope that Disney re-releases Bedknobs and Broomsticks in a 2 Disc Special Edition, as this movie (along with Dumbo, Robin Hood and The Hunchback of Notre Dame) deserves it the most, although it seems fairly inevitable considering that almost every Disney movie is being re-released on a better DVD these days.

I too have loved BAB since I was a child (though it used to frighten the s*** out of me with the walking armour and the eerie bagpipe music during the main title).

I was greatly surprised by the extended version DVD, and I try to watch the movie as often as I can. I think it stands up to endless repeated viewings and I never get bored with it.

Angela Lansbury is so wonderful as Eglantine and David Tomlinson is a crack-up as Emelius.

Hmmm, maybe thats why I like Bedknobs and Broomsticks, I always got the sister(although she wasnt always really cute).

If they actually uncovered the footage for "Step in the Right Direction" and restored it to the film, that right there might be worth the price of a reissue.

And hopefully, if they ever do, they'll fix that awful ADR for the restored scenes. The voice actors are just awful! Especially the little boy; the ADR artist sounds retarded. Thankfully Lansbury and McDowell did their own voices, but the others...ugh!

Yeah! It sounds like they got 5-year-old to dub in the voice of 12-year-old Charles!

And the Emelius dubbing borders on cruel mockery.
