Bambi and Friends Relationships...
Bambi and Friends Relationships...
Ok... you might call me crazy but...
But as a child, when I watched Bambi, I thought "Flower" was mean to be a female... it was odd how he got shy and blushing for Bambi...
But then he's obviously a male... don't you think their interaction is kind of gay??? I mean... REALLY GAY!!!
I mean, it's kind of akward and odd seeing that on a Disney Classic!
Why didn't they made it a female? that would've been easier!
Anyway, it's just a cartoon...
(I don't know the name of that animal in english, in spanish it's called "zorrillo")

Re: Bambi and Friends Relationships...
Oh God! Here we go again!!!! People seem to look at these old movies and "find" gay relationships. I swear that some people purposely look for these things!!! Same thing arose in Lord of the Rings, over Sam and Frodo. No, it wasn't a gay relationship (in both cases!) and no it was never meant to be!! This was not made in the modern world, where Gay issues are being brought to the forefront, it was made in a world where Gay issues were strictly behind the scenes. You didn't insert gay images in your movies if you wanted them to be popular.Ric-Mx wrote:Ok... you might call me crazy but...

Pretty Flower
Flower is only gay when he's in Spanish. In English, he's straight. Either way, he sure does stink!

Personally, I think that anyone who can find gay relationships in movies is kind of strange, but that is my opinion. I mean, Flower's voice is quite feminine, at least when he is a child, but that does not mean he is gay. He is like Bashful in Snow White- he is quite shy, and when he does get good attention, he loves it- like when Bambi mistakes him for a Flower. Plus, he gets "twitterpated" with a female skunk!!!

The Trailer....
Well, after watching the original 1942 trailer, it suggested to me, that one of the characters was going to get laid.
Bambi discovers what "love" is!
Bambi discovers what "love" is!
No, I mean, this has always been a weird fact to me, even since I watched it as a child!!!
I know there was no real sexual approach in this movie as one of the main themes is the INNOCENCE of life.
But by today's standars, you'll hardly find a boy (even 3 o 5 yrs old) who acts like Flower... and I mean... even the name!!!!
I mean, everything would come togethear easier if Flower was a girl... don't you think???
Anyway, it's no big deal!!!
They were good friends and besides... they're different species!!!

Also, what about the name "Bambi"? I'm surprised all these so-called "modern" fans have'nt started bashing the film just because you've got an obviously straight male deer with a ...dare I say it? A GIRL'S NAME!!!!!! Horrors upon shockers upon OMAGORSHHHHHH!!! What's Jerry Falwell gonna make of THAT one?????
Okay geniuses, for the lowdown on how a boy deer comes up with a girl's name is due to the fact that it was never MEANT to be a girl's name!. The book was written in 1928 by an Austrian writer, Felix Salten, so naturally the first initial editions of Bambi were written in German. When asked about the name, Salten said that he took it from the Italian word for a male baby, "bambino"...in short, "Bambi". Now, if it were a FEMALE baby, the proper word would've been "bambina", but since our hero was a boy....well, I think you get the picture. Oh....before I forget, here's another bit of trivia- did you know that "Bambi" the book was banned by the Nazis in 1936? I've no idea if the film ever played there during Hitler's time, but would'nt that be a hoot? One of the most evil men in history having a good weepfest from Disney movie based on a book he himself banned! Such an intriguing thought!

Itriguing thought indeed. However, you can remove that picture from your mind, as by the time Bambi came out the European market was closed off due to the war. During Hitler's time, No Disney movies came out (at least) on Continental Europe.
This in turn influenced the making of Walt's movies, and he turned to South America for a new market. Thus we got movies like Saludos Amigos, and The Three Callbelleros

First of all check my screen name -
Okay - just so you know where I'm coming from-
Let me say that in all of the years that I have seen Bambi I've NEVER thought of a 'gay connection'
between Bambi and Flower.
C'mon! They're little kids!
Flower is a shy child who was given a compliment by a member of the 'royal family'!
It's ridiculous to think that there's any kind of gay subtext in an animated movie from 1942.
I don't really understand the (mostly straight) society thinking that they see some kind of gay relationship between most male bonding relationships. It's a shame, really, that men can't be close friends without speculation always leaning towards something that isn't there. The fact that people have trouble with two stright men showing any kind of FRIENDLY affection towards one another suggests that poeple have issues with their own comfort factor in matters of sexuality.
But then again it can be argued that the issue here may be gender related and not sexuality based - two very different issues, indeed. In a society that devalues women to the point where it's 'bad' for a man to take on sterotypical feminine traits, the fact that it would have been 'easier' for Flower to have 'just been [made] a girl' shows that our society has a long way to go before we are accepting of anyone, LOL or any animated animal - who isn't the 'ideal' of what someone thinks that they should be.
Again, I'm a 100% out and proud gay man but I believe that people are not only 'seeing' things that are not there, but imposing their own 'issues' onto the scene.
Okay - now, PLEASE don't bring up Timon and Pumbaa
* just a light joke to show I'm not really SO SO serious!

Yes. But what does this have to do with DC Comics? Unless.... ah. Batman and Robin.gaysnappercarr wrote:First of all check my screen name -

anyways...
You know I don't think Timon & Pumbaa can compare to Bambi & Flower or Batman & Robin.
whatever happened to just watching a movie? you're all just analyzing the characters too much!
oh well, that movie's the number one DVD thanks to you analyzers!

You do realise that if Flower was female then he would almost CERTAINLY be gay, because he falls in love with a female skunk.Ric-Mx wrote:I mean, everything would come together easier if Flower was a girl... don't you think???
And if really want to see some really "Gay" stereotype characters, you should see some of the Silly Symphonies, "Who Killed Cock Robin?" springs to mind.

Sunset Girl
Well, when I was a kid and saw the Great Mouse Detective, I initially thought Olivia was a boy because there was no long hair nor eyelashes there to "tell" me that she was a girl. However, finding out I was wrong never made me question her sexual orientation!
C'mon, guys! That's the farthest thing from my mind when I'm watching a Disney movie. And why do people have to look for some automatic sexual link between characters, anyway? Bert and Ernie and SpnongeBob and Patrick come to mind. They are not gay, were never intended to be gay, and yet people still insist on it. Why? Why do people see something that isn't there?
And I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that I have nothing against anyone's sexual orientation, no matter what it may be. But I do have a problem when people attach one to a place where it doesn't belong.

Could'nt agree with you more! Everyone is so overly obsessed these days about "gender preference" and "queerness" that it's gotten to the point that people are actively searching for and latching onto every hint of "gay" whether it's there or not. Absolutely ridiculous to take an example of childish innocence and turn it into something it is'nt. Lots of intolerent, hatefilled minds out there doing "God's good work"....give it a rest, will ya??? SHEESH!!gaysnappercarr wrote: Let me say that in all of the years that I have seen Bambi I've NEVER thought of a 'gay connection'between Bambi and Flower.
