Forum Hacked 2/6, Restored 2/7
Greetings,
You probably already know this by now, but the forum was hacked on Sunday at around 6:30 PM Eastern. I'd like to apologize for the two juvenile e-mails that appeared to be sent by me. They weren't, and if you check the headers you can confirm that.
They also tinkered with the word censor settings to replace everyday English words with profanity, vulgarly renamed some members, deleted some too. They also made the forum for troublesome/duplicate posts/posters become the only visible one.
This act was committed by someone on the networks of Fairleigh Dickinson University. They've since been reported to the proper authorities. Ultimately, it achieved little. On account of the database restore, we've lost something like 2 * days of posts. Many of those have been saved by Awallaceunc and will be reposted in some form.
Anyone who registered after Saturday morning will need to resign up again. Feel free to discuss this matter, or pose any questions here. Obviously, this was a bit of an inconvenience, and I apologize for that. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

We're back, baby! Woohoo!
Good to see Ames shining to my left again!
I'll start restructuring the posts as soon as I get back to my computer. I wish I had thought to back up my PMs too, but at least we got the bulk of it!
Whodaman? Yodaman. And Luke too. Because he saved the forums!

This is already in the Newsletter and mass forum e-mail that will be going out later today. But sincere thanks to Aaron, deathie mouse, Paka, Renata, and everyone else who helped out either saving posts or getting the forum back. It's much appreciated.

As I restructure the lost posts and threads, if you noticed that I have done anything wrong, or if you would like to have your post edited, please let me know!! I'll be happy to edit for you (try to keep frivolous spelling stuff to a minimum, though).
*edits to spell frivolous correctly.

Fortunately, there was no permanent damage or long lasting effects from the hack. Rethorical qustion: How did you and the webhost provider restor the forums in two and a half hours? I know for security reasons, you can't tell.
I assume that you use some sort of remote connection that worked.
I'm glad that everyone's account is safe. I hope the hacker didn't steal our passwords and email addresses.
Eh, the profanity on the board was slightly amusing. I just ignored the bad words.
Wait, the board has a censor? I didn't know that.
At least the hacker didn't replace the words and content of the forum with very inappropriate text and pictures.
Thanks for posting the update and the awsome work Luke, awallaceunc, and Paka! Now life on UD will resume like hack never occured.

Thank you to everyone who helped fix UD! This is one of my favorite places online and I'm glad it has been reconstructed and fixed. I hope it doesn't happen again and I hope the hacker is kept "In the Vaults."
Why do people do this anyway? Do they think it's funny? How can people be so cruel. They need a few lessons from Thumper...

Yep thanks to everyone who helped restore this place
You all are the greatest
That goes to everyone who posts here, this is such a great board, and I hate that something like that happened
I hope I'm not being too nosy, but what are the consequences for hacking a website? I don't know much about this, but is it serious jail time? If I'm being too nosy please tell me to butt out

There's still much to be restored. I'm getting to it as fast as I can. I have a few hundred WordPad pages down, and a little under 400 to go.

The encouragement is appreciated. It really is!
As for the questions asked, I don't know the answers so much. Some of them were rhetorical, and some maybe we'll wait and see.
Thanks for all sticking with the forum. That's so important and I'm glad you enjoy this little community we have.
