Little Mermaid '07???? NOOOOOO

Post by enjoy »

I just got to thinking about something....I think the Little Mermaid is most likely coming to DVD 2007 and not 2006!!! I just thought that the Limited Issue DVD came out in 1997 which will only be 9 years in 06. Dont they usually do 10 years before they re-release!!! NOOOOO!!!!!! Someone please prove me wrong...PLEASE!

Man, I just posted in the "Can't Wait for TLM: PE" thread, and now my bubble is burst too. I can wait, but it doesn't mean I want to. I have no idea when it's really going to come out but that does make sense unless Disney decides to pass on the 10 yr. anniversary and just stick to the PE status.

Yes, because Disney has been SO steadfast at keeping to all their moratoriums. The Limited Issue DVD came out in 1999, as did all the other Limited Issues. Does that mean none of them will go Platinum until 2009? In the words of Kevin McAllister, "I don't think so"!

for a moment now i got worried, until Luke showed up.

i feel better now, it better not leave the 2006 time slot, thought it has never been publicly announced, i do hope it will be out next year.

Luke, do I sense a bit of sarcasm? Since when does Disney say something and I
dunno, actually stick to it?!

When I first saw this thread title I thought that Disney had announced TLM for
'07 and I coulda killed.

Good thing that notion was cleared quickly. Fall of '06 (its possible slated
release) seems far enough away.

Yes, you do. But it was only the first part that was sarcastic. I'm pretty
confident that Lady and the Tramp and The Little Mermaid are going to be
revisited next year.

Oh thank god! I love both of those movies a lot (it's obvious though which one
is my favorite  ) and I REALLY hope that's the way the release scedual
will be....Lady for spring 06 and Mermaid for fall 06 :) :ariel:

one thing is what WE want (selfishly), and another is what is the fairest
thing to happen, analizing the release dates, all of them are actually for
the best; both Bambi and Cinderella have never been on dvd so is just fair if
they come this year, and lady and the tramp, little mermaid and dalmatians
come later, cause those movies were already on dvd once, but since mermaid is
the most requested of those three, it´ll get the fall release, wich is the
most important period for dvd releases, and it will be a hit.

So as Luke says, it is for sure, mermaid will come in October 06...

Not everyone wants The Little Mermaid after Cinderella.

Some of us want the 101 Dalmations, The Jungle Book, and Lady and the Tramp next.

For your information, Even though Disney has delayed some of the catalogue
titles like Dr.Syn, Tiger town, Shaggy DOg, Shaggy D.A. They usually release
the animated classics when they say they will.

When I read the thread title I got scared or thought it was just a new member
getting to scare with the date.
Bring on Lady and the Tramp and The Little Mermaid next year!!!! :D
At least Luke cleared up the possible release date of The Little Mermaid.

To be perfectly honest, I agree with Andy, and wouldn't mind waiting longer
for TLM. There's so many other Disney Classics I would love to get 2-disc
releases, and TLM is actually one of the few animated movies I didn't enjoy
all that much. I liked a few of the songs, but other than that...

...don't hurt me...

I hope Luke is right, and I think that he is. The only reason Bambi is coming
before Mermaid is that they wanted to send out the first-time-on-DVD
Platinums first, which ends with Cinderella.

Perhaps it could also be that they don't see Bambi as big a deal as the others
and it was therefore more expendable for a spring release? I guess there could
be something there, but all 10 Platinums carry a pretty big demand and spring
certainly isn't some sort of doom trap for a DVD release. The spring titles
will do well also, I'm sure. You could even say they'd release the weaker
ones in the fall so as to give them a push.

I think TLM is a definite for next year, no doubt in my mind. Spring or fall,
though? I really hope for spring, but I can see that going either way, and it
may largely depend on Bambi's sales performance this spring. Hopefully we hear
something for sure by this summer, but that may be a bit early.

2006's other release will probably be either Lady & The Tramp or The Jungle
Book. The only reason I could see TJB coming prior to L&TT is so that
DreamerQ18's realistic theory of a "2007 Goes To The Dogs" marketing pitch
could occur (with Lady & 101). Of course we can't bank on that, it's just a
possibility. On the flip side, Jungle seems to be a bit hotter a commodity
than the two dogs films and with more opportunities for promotion, so maybe
they want to keep Jungle in '07 for stronger sales that year? Many factors;
very interesting.

At any rate, Cinderella & The Little Mermaid are now tied for my most-wanted
Platinums, and I think that's probably true for the majority as well.

I think DreamerQ18 theory is wrong. Why would Disney want to take out 101
Dalmatians and Lady and the Tramp out at the same time?
It would make the media kind of upset.

Here's what I say:

March 06 Lady and the Tramp
October 06 The Little Mermaid
March 07 The Jungle Book
October 07 101 Dalmatians

2007 will be dark year to me.. I mean I don't like Dalmatians and Jungle Book
all that much. Disney movies from 60's and 70's are not so emotional and
beautiful than movies before and after that. Thank god this and next year are
just one big party, all those 4 are my favourite classics! :D

would be too much of dogs.
It would be great news but I prefer to have a balance. :D

I think The Little Mermaid should be released in March because well to me, its
a....spring-y (?) movie. I think people would be in more of the mood to buy
The Little Mermaid in Spring and Summer because of the Carribean and Ocean
feel. Lady and the Tramp is a more holiday movie to me cause doesnt it end
during Christmas? I also think L&T should be released in October because
October is a big sale month and Little Mermaid doesnt need it as much as Lady
& the Tramp does, Little Mermaid could be released a day after Christmas and
STILL be huge.

The Little Mermaid - March '06
Lady & The Tramp - October '06
Jungle Book - March '07
101 Dalmations - October '07

Yeah, that does sound nice, enjoy.

I love the dalmatians, but I can wait (seeing as I have the VHS, which is in
the OAR, so I'm not dying for the DVD release). And I would like to see
Mermaid sooner. However, I would like to get all the old movies out ASAP,
because they should release them before (God forbid) too many people who
worked on them die. Frank Thomas is dead. :( I hope this doesn't sound
selfish or pessemistic, but I hope those who are still living can help out
with the DVDs, with commentaries and such.

I think that Little Mermaid (2006) and 101 Dalmatians (2007) will come out in
October to make customers cash out during the holidays season.

actually, that could be a very good cross promotion; like when they released
Lion King on dvd and Brother Bear on theaters the same year, in fact, with
the release of 101 dalmatians PE, I´m prety sure there will be special
edition of the two live action dalmatians movies... lots of dogs!!

Relax my friend, and rest assured that when Little Mermaid does come out, it will be one of the best releases to date and it will be that much sweeter because you waited through thick and thin for this wonderful release. God (If you believe in him) rewards those who wait and are selfless. I have therefore said, allow Disney to release the movies that have never seen the light of day on DVD before and allow those who love those movies have them.

Don't get me wrong, I love The Little Mermaid and want to see it on DVD, but paitience is the key to everything in life.

Just something to think about

Mermaid Platinum

Post by stitcharielbeast »

I heard they are planning to time the release of the Little Mermiad DVD with the launch of the broadway version which isn't until 2007, but that was when the Platinum releases were only once per year.

I hear they are in a hurry to realease the entire Disney animated arsenal by 2009 and with 14 titles in the Platinum Collection, they might have to bump the yearly releases to more than 2.

But I can wait till 2006 if I have to. I went to see it in the theater when it came out, and I sure do want to see it crisp and clean with no tracking problems like my old tape has.

That ain't exactly new speculation. Lady and the Tramp is coming in March, and for some time now, we've expected The Little Mermaid in October.
