Does anyone hold out on watching Disney films if...

If you know there is a film is about to be rereleased, do you hold out on watching it?

For example when I learnt a Pocahontas special edition was coming back in December 2003, I decided to sell my DVD and I didn't watch the film for just over a year and in my opinion again when I saw when i got the collector's edition the experience was so enhanced because i had been dying to see it! The same with Lilo and Stitch. Also Since I lernt the an Alice in W special edition was being released in late 2003 I decided not to watch Alice and sold that! Alice is one of my top films, so it's killing me not being able to watch it, but I know that when I get my hands on the French 2 disc special edition in April It will have been worth the wait to hold out!

The same with Bambi, I haven't watched my VHS for almost 2 years because I knew it was coming on DVD, and so I have forgotten a couple of things that happen!

Also I know that special editions of Lady and the Tramp and Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians are in the pipeline, so they're getting the same treatment!

Anyone else do this, or am I mad!

On the contrary! I like watching the older edition(s) of the film just to be able to appreciate the restored look of the new one, 'cause obviously I won't remember how it looked if I wouldn't watch it for over a year! Comparing between the two versions is an obsession of mine

Yes and no. I don't think that I'll be watching my Lady and the Tramp or Cinderella videos as I know that I should watch them when they arrive digitally, and as I'm anticipating them, I'll probably like them a bit more. I know it happened with Alice in Wonderland; I don't think that Disney want to release the masterpiece edition abroard, so after waiting for over a year, I imported a copy and watched it on my PC and loved it greatly.

Needless to say, I did decide to watch a movie knowing that a DVD was coming; I hadn't seen The Little Mermaid in five or six years and really wanted to, so I was happy to know it was arriving in 2005, but then it got pushed back to 2006 to let Cinderella arrive earlier. In an act of desperation to see it again, I got the video off Ebay despite knowing that I could see it digitally if I was patient.

I hope you got the 1990 edition! I like it better than the 1998 one The colors look much more realistic.

Yeah I'm not gonna watch The Little Mermaid or Cinderella. I want to really enjoy the experience on platinum dvd!

yes, i also do it, when the dvd are nearly to be released and i have the vhs, i don't see it

Nope, I prefer the better DVD instead of "ruining" the experience by watching it before on VHS. If you haven't seen a movie in years (there are at least Bambi, The Little Mermaid, The Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella etc.) and you can see it with excellent quality and with a big amount of extras the experience feels almost as new as the first time you saw the movie. That's how I've felt it.

So my anwer to your question is yes.

2 weeks ago i had alot of free time, so i watched all the Disney movies that are or will be on the Platinum line, i watched the ones already out on DVD, then i continued with the VHS of Bambi, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, 101 Dalmatians.

i don't own jungle book on any version, and i just bought Lady and the Tramp from eBay, it arrived today and for my first time i will watch it today, i have never seen that movie.

so my answers is, no i don't with-hold watching movies, i watch them to appreciate both versions.

I own Bambi and it is one of my top 5 movies. I haven't watched it in years because the quality of the VHS is horrible. I know the DVD is coming out in March and I am not going to watch it until I see the digitaly remastered version.

The same went with Aladdin. It is my favorite movie, but I just never watched it. Then I learned it was coming out on DVD. Even though I REALLY wanted to watch it and felt my life wouldn't be complete until I could see the movie again... I held out for the DVD and I love the quality of it.

I bought Pocahontas on DVD a while ago, but I am planning on giving that copy to my mom (she works at a Day Care at the local elementary school and would love to have any movies of mine) so I can get the new edition coming out. Horaay! I am holding off on Pocahontas as well.

In the case of Cinderella and the other Disney films I only have on VHS, I can't watch them because my VCR isn't working. If it were working, you know I would be popping them into the player in a flash. I watch Pocahontas on DVD all the time even though I know the ME is coming out in a few months. I just can't help myself!

Like rodis said, I love comparing unrestored versions to their restored versions too. Just to marvel at it.

My VCR ain't working either! I have like 20 classics and I'm unable to watch them. I don't even have the Pocahontas DVD! When I finally see it, it will be like it were the first time!

Not really, although the other day i was considering buying the Emperors New Groove dvd but was unsure so i dug out my vhs which i havent seen for years and watched about 30 seconds and realised how fantasic the film was so i quickly turned it off and when i got it on dvd it was great as i forgot afew jokes n stuff!

I dont think you are mad. I´ll tell you something about my waiting list of Disney Classics. I watch them only three times a year. On the christmas evening, on the day of my birthday and on the day of St. George´s Day (that is my name . It wasnt intentional. It just came automatically.

I havent seen all of the Disney Classics. So those I havent seen yet got preference. I own about 30 classics. And till today I havent seen almost 10 of them.

i'm doing the exact same right now for pocahontas and bambi

cinderella is a definite, cuz we lost our vhs copy for when it comes out on dvd it will be a fresh renewal for me

Usually, if I hear about a re-release coming up, and I plan on buying it, I do tend to hold out on watching it. I typically like to leave gaps in between my viewings anyway, to keep the experience somewhat fresh.

In the case of Disney movies, though, I mostly don't even have to worry about that. For one, I don't own any on VHS any more - I sold my video collection a long time ago. Plus, of all the Disney titles that have gotten more than one release on DVD, I don't think I've ever had the original issue.

As soon as a re-release of something is announced, I completely hold off on watching my current copy so that I can better appreciate the film once I watch it on DVD. For example, I've had the urge for the past couple of months to watch Bambi, but I've been controlling myself so that my experience with the film on DVD will be fresher and have more resonance. Likewise, I don't plan on watching Cinderella ever again until I get the DVD in October.

I am not going to watch my vhs copy of Bambi. I am going to wait to see the new dvd version. I recently watched Cinderella since there is a long wait for it to be released onto dvd. I also watched my vhs copy of The Little Mermaid. It's about a 2 year wait so I couldn't go that long without seeing it.
I held out on seeing Aladdin on vhs before it came out on dvd. I think I waited more than 4 months, until I bought it on dvd when it came out. And I did the same with Aladdin And The King of Thieves, I had the vhs copy which I haven't seen for a long time. Then I bought the Aladdin II and III set on dvd.

Yes...sometimes.
For instance..Lilo and Stitch.
We sold our 1-disc DVD on Ebay for $15.00 because the 2-Disc is coming out this year!
but i do miss watching it...so we end up borrowing the dvd from a friend.

yes...I kinda do that too....for wxample, I'm not watching Bambi, Pocahontas, Lilo and Stich, or Cinderella until their 2 disc dvds come out. But I'm not going to stop watching Little Mermaid, Lady and the Tramp, etc yet. Their relese dates are too far away for now.
