Buena Vista Home Entertainment have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Chronological Donald and Mickey in Living Colour 2 for 4th April 2005. Enjoy a compilation of original Disney animation, never-before-released, with the next collection in the Walt Disney Treasures series. Available from 4th April, the entertainment continues with two double-disc collections featuring Disney's most prolific and cherished characters: the legendary Mickey Mouse and the delightful Donald Duck. These great characters have kept audiences captivated since 1934 and continue to do so as these timeless animations succeed in spanning and entertaining generations.

These Disney DVDs come in special limited edition tin packaging and will delight old and young Disney fans alike. Those who are lucky enough to have seen the short films on the big screen originally have the chance to see them again and again with all the charm that they exuded the first time around. This is also a great chance for grandparents to share the magic of the films with their grandchildren or keep them for future generations to treasure. DVD enthusiasts will cherish this part of film history - watching the evolution of both Mickey and Donald through the years. This is also a wonderful DVD collection for fans of modern day Disney. The animation may have changed but the stories are just as entertaining and the enjoyment extends far beyond the main features with an abundance of delightful bonus material.

Chronological Donald is the much-anticipated retrospective of Donald Duck's memorable film shorts. In 1934 Donald had a bit-part in "The Wise Little Hen" and stole the show. He became an overnight success and it is this highly disruptive but equally loveable character that Chronological Donald is devoted to. The fact that Donald Duck has been the star of so many cartoons shows just how popular he is and this popularity has continued to the present and will do in the future. Donald's unique character trait is his inclination to lose his temper - which causes mayhem and amusement. His tendency to show off definitely provides a contrast to Mickey and the kind-hearted Pluto and makes him somewhat of a scene-stealer. Disc 1 features seven film shorts chronicling 1934 to 1938 and Disc 2 covers six brilliant films all from the 1940's. Donald's tantrums and flamboyant performances are captured on this DVD such as in "Don Donald" in which he tries to woo Daisy and gets very frustrated in the process! Die-hard Disney fans should look out for the art-work featured on the bonus disc - a great insight into the creative vision behind the animation.

Mickey in Living Colour 2 follows on from the first volume in the series which was released last year. It is entirely devoted to Mickey's career and what a wonderful career it has been. These colourful adventures date back as early as the 1930's and feature Mickey at his very best, offering warm-hearted humour for Disney fans everywhere and covering sixteen film shorts in total from "Society Dog Show" in 1939 to "The Simple Things" in 1953. This second compilation continues following Mickey's lively antics and the highlights include the brilliant "Tugboat Mickey" on Disc 1, a comical tale including Mickey's great friends Donald and Pluto.

Also present in these shorts is Mickey's loyal and lively pooch Pluto, who aids Mickey in getting in and out of his many scrapes, providing never-ending amusement for the audience. "The Nifty Nineties" includes Mickey's love Minnie Mouse and his good pal Donald and famously includes characters based on two of Disney's top animators - Ward Kimball and Fred Moore.

Mickey in Living Colour 2 and Chronological Donald contain delightful extras that provide a wealth of entertainment. Both collections feature exclusive introductions by film historian Leonard Maltin, giving a great insight into the context the films were made in. You can also enjoy Mickey's first venture into feature film with "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", the magical scene from Fantasia, never seen before animation from the film and a DVD first showing of the short film "Mickey and the Beanstalk", which is itself being released on DVD later in 2005.

In addition, you'll have an inside look at Mickey's career through the eyes of his most recent voice actors Wayne Allwine (Mickey) and Russi Taylor (Minnie) as they explain how they play these much-loved characters so successfully.

The bonus features on Chronological Donald offer an exclusive look at the story boards and the background art gallery, allowing you to take a look at the original animation with a sneak peek at the art and poster work behind the film shorts. You can also find out more about the man behind Donald's distinctive voice, Clarence "Ducky" Nash and how he voiced a character that was to become so renowned.

Sounds good to me - they come in tins! Why is Mickey and the Beanstalk being released on DVD later this year though? Is there a need for a DVD release if it's already on here and Fun and Fancy Free? And, correct me if i'm wrong, this isn't its first time on DVD at all then, is it?

Will Mickey in living color v2 have Runaway Brain or will it be brainless like the German/Spanish edition?

The intro to runaway brain was passed by the BBFC way back in March 2004, so I guess this means it's luckily more likely for us to have than not to have it. I can't see the BBFC not allowing it anyway - so long as there's no headbutt.

Well thats great! But there were few disappointments about the UK release for me. First of all the quality of those TINS was extremely terrible. Those from the USA are much much better. Hope that Buena Vista UK will think about better ways (please make a copy of those from the USA!!!).

And as well - I think that the us version contains more cartoon-shorts!!! Why is it so?!
