Ultimate Disney Movie Awards 2005 - Nominations

Post by Jack »

Image

Welcome to this special event! With the awards season in full swing, here's everyone's chance to nominate and vote for the films they loved in 2004.

In this first stage, the catagories are listed below. Each member may nominate up to 5 films in each catagory. You may nominate less than 5, if you so wish, but not more. Please - only nominate movies that you've actually seen.

I wanted to start the nomination process now, since most are are highly interested in the awards season already. However, I understand that some of you may not have had a chance to see some of the end-of-the-year movies yet. That's why I'll leave aproximately one month - through January 23rd, 2005 - to get your nominations in. I plan on having the voting start the following day, on the 24th.

Here are the catagories:

Best Overall Movie (may include films from any of the sub-catagories)
Best Drama/Adventure Movie
Best Comedic Movie
Best Animated Movie
Best Director
Best Actor
Best Actress
Best Supporting Actor
Best Supporting Actress
Best Original Screenplay
Best Adapted Screenplay
Best Cinematography
Best Costumes
Best Make-Up
Best Set Design
Best Original Score
Best Original Song
Best Visual Effects
Best Editing

In additon to these standards, I've decided to throw in a few more catagories for fun (thanks to Luke for some suggestions). These special catagories are . . .

Best Sequel
Best Fat Guy

If there are any more questions or suggestions, feel free to mention them! Thanks to all who partake - it'll be a lot of fun!

Very cool graphic, Jack. I'm hoping to see a bunch of movies soon, and after that, I'll do my votes. As it is now, I've only seen a handful of 2004 films and most of them are Disney. Who knew?!

If anyone's wondering, I changed the title to "2005", since the awards will be taking place next year (only 3 days away till the new year, ya know). Don't panic - we're still nominating 2004 films! :thumb:

I haven't really seen any of the "Oscar-worthy" films that came out in 2004 (like Million Dollar Baby, Finding Neverland, etc.) but I still plan on participating in these awards....as soon as I see one more movie. I'm going to see Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera on the 22nd, so I should be posting my nominations around then. I was actually kind of worried that I wouldn't be able to get the nominations in by the deadline, so it was funny when I saw that the deadline was the 23rd. And it's good to see that these awards are getting more attention than last year's.

Yeah, the reason the deadline was moved to Jan. 23rd was because I realized a lot of the end-of-the-year films are still in limited release, and don't expand into more theaters until later in the month. It'll leave ample room for people to catch whatever movies they wish to see in theaters before the deadline.

Also, if we get enough responses, I plan on having forum members be presenters for individual awards. They can type up little speeches to introduce each catagory and they will be included in the announcing of the winners later on.

I have a question. Do I have to separate the films by genre? I don't believe in that sort of thing. A good film is a good film. :D

Also, what happened to Best Foriegn Language Film, Best Sound, and Best Sound Editing?

If you don't wish to nominate films for the subcatagories (Best Drama/Adventure, Comedy, Animated, etc.), then you don't have to.

As for the other catagories you mentioned, I left them out purposely. Most people don't see a lot of foriegn films, and I doubt we'd get enough nominees. As for sound design/editing, that was just a judgement call on my part. They are both very technical catagories, and it can be difficult for some to judge which films are good in that aspect and which ones aren't. (I was actually considering leaving out Make Up and Editing too, but I just left them in.)
