This has to be one of the best Disney theme park rides, up there with the likes of Star Tours and Disneyland Paris' Alice's Curious Labyrinth. Even if the sets are a little twee, I don't mind. It provides a solid, atmospheric ride through the dark and sleazy canals of a captured British colony. Plus if it weren't for this, we wouldn't have had the movie of this ride, and we wouldn't have heard of Keira Knightley and what would life be like without her?
While I never hated this ride, I remember it not being on the top of my list. I was always more concerned with Fantasyland. But as I got older and was able to pick up on the jokes, this ride became one of my favorites. My favorite part is when the mayor is being dunked in the well by the pirates and his wife is leaning out the window yelling at him. "Don't tell them anything Carlos!" Mayve it's just my weird since of humor, but I think that is hysterical.
This was the one ride I always looked forward to riding the most as a kid. First off, the ambiance of it is so cool . . . boarding a boat and drifting through a nighttime bayou. It just totally takes you away.
One thing the Disneyland version has that WDW doesn't is a rather long journey through several caves where skelatons and treasure lay, right after the first drop - its my understanding that WDW doesn't have this, or at least shortens it down a lot.
The scene following, with the ship attacking the town, is my favorite. And there's more to see while travelling through the town than any other Disneyland attraction, which makes for new things to notice on each riding. And of course, there's that infectious song! And oh yeah, I just love that musty smell.
As far as I'm concerned, Pirates is probably the perfect theme park attraction. Disney should really use it as a benchmark to create newer rides (in Crapifornia Adventure).
Tried fixing the image. Not sure what the deal is. The HTML and BB code works when you add the JPEG extension, which is what gets you the remote-hosted Tripod replacement image. I guess the lack of an extension is not letting it work. Odd.
The Pirates of the Carribean has always been one of my favorite rides at Disney World. And then I went on the Disneyland version and that quickly surpassed the WDW version as my favorite ride. The Disneyland version has so many bonuses including the bayou opening (it's really fun to eat at the Blue Bayou restaurant and watch the boats pass by), and as Jack mentioned, many of the scenes are just longer in general. Plus this was the version that Walt created. To me, the best parts of The Pirates of the Carribean movie were when there were references to the ride.
Yo ho yo ho!!!!
WIST #1 (The pinkrenata Edition) -- Kram Nebuer: *mouth full of Oreos* Why do you have a picture of Bobby Driscoll?
When I was little I hated this ride. I hated being scared and I was terrified of the pirates and my parents were mean and made me go on. I was bawling my eyes out and they just pushed me in. Escapay was just laughing at me. He was so heartless. Anyhow, the whole ride I clenched shut my ears and shut my eyes and waited for it to be over. I forget what happened after that.
Isn't the Disneyland version included on the Pirates DVD?
I remember going on this ride and not liking it that much likes the other rides because I was only 10 at the time. When I was younger I hardly went on this ride because I thought it was creepy and weird but now I'm all grown up and I usually go on this ride like to times each time I visit Disneyland. I just found out that this ride is hardly closed. Many people went on it when Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl came out in the theaters. The lines were always long during the movie was in the theaters.

Ah... one of the Disneyland rides from my childhood that I have always, always loved. I loved the song, the animatronics (I used to think they were real people--and that the "fire" was real too), the dog holding the key in its mouth.
Another ride I absolutely love. I find pirates in general to be very fascinating, so it's great fun seeing them "live" doing what they do best - pillaging and plundering. The animatronics on this attraction hold up astoundingly well after so many years, and you can't help but sing along to that catchy theme song.
Yeah, I love a lot of the same things about this ride that have already been mentioned. The long walk through those musty halls, boarding the boats, going down the little dip at the beginning... My favorite part is when the ship is firing on the town. Very cool, how they made that little room seem like miles and miles of ocean. I think it's pretty convincing. What fun!
Hands down my favorite ride at Disneyland! The WDW version is just plain sad when you compare it to the Disneyland version (no Blue Bayou restaurant-as a matter of fact-no bayou section at all). Whenever I go to Disneyland, I try to have either lunch or dinner at the Blue Bayou-it kind of expensive but it's a lot of fun having a meal inside a major attraction. The ride itself is much better as well, the scenes are longer and the whole bayou section is a great intro to the rest of the ride.
A+ for the Disneyland version
C- for the WDW version

I love that part too
I've only been to WDW. Does the Disneyland ride have a slightly bigger drop? Or a waterfall you go up?
The air conditioning for this ride is always really strong! I love it...
I didn't go on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride until May 2004 and it was my fourth time at Disneyland But I liked it so much I ended up going on it the second time on the same day
The funny thing is that I've never seen the "PotC" movie, and my sister has never been on the "PotC" ride (she has the movie on DVD, though).
I would say this is the best "attraction" at Disneyland, or any other theme park for that matter. The themeing is perfect and complete. Everytime I ride Pirates of the Caribbean, I am totally lost in the atmosphere created by the ride. A trip to Disneyland would not be complete without riding this one!
I'm a fan of Disney's dark rides and of pirates in general, so of course I love this ride (though I don't think it's the best). I always find it impressive that rides that aren't based on any pre-existing film or story (i.e. Small World, Pirates) became such fan favorites, but with the quality of the rides, it's certainly not surprising. POTC really authenticates the auro of piratedom. The ride really just takes you through scenes of life as a pirate, which makes for an interesting experience. The surprise drop is a lot of fun as well, though I hated it the first time I rode it as a small child. The ceiling looks just like the nighttime sky above, which always wows me. I'm sure Disneyland's version is a lot better-done (even though WDW's still rocks), and I can't wait to see it some day.
Unfortunately, Disney World's is in serious need of refurbishment. The audio seems to have dilapidated. The only thing you can hear is the Yo Ho song, and even that seems muffled. The dialogue is impossible to understand without very intense concentration and therefore the back story is lost on the park guests. The only thing they are able to get out of it now is nostalgia and comparisons with the fantasmic film adaptation, neither of which are to be belittled, but there is supposed to be more to the ride. Many of the animatronics (some of which were changed around awhile back to be more politically correct) need some touching up as well. Fortunately, it looks like the improvements are on the way. Once Small World opens up from its one year rehab, either Pirates, Pan, or Haunted Mansion are scheduled to go down for an equally intensive and long-lasting (and much-needed) rehab. As with Small World, it will be painful to see either of these go down for that long of a period as they are some of the best and most popular attractions at Disney World, but it's really for the best. In my opinion, Pirates is in the most need for this treatment, even more than Small World was (and I think the only reason that Pirates didn't get it first was because of the timing of the film). There are a lot of rumors/speculation that a Johnny Depp animatronic will be added to the ride, if not an entire new closing scene to be added at the end of the ride, which would feature Comm. Barbosa and the Black Pearl, and possibly tie-ins with the sequels as well. I have mixed feelings on this, but overall I think I'd enjoy that, so long as it didn't tamper with any of the existing ride as it stands now.
I too love POTC. It's one of my favs. I was scared of it has a kid I remember the first drop, that little skull and crossbones saying Beware! Turn Back Now! Then splash, you were in the caves! From there my parents confinced me it was ok and I started to enjoy it. My favorite part is were the cannonballs are going off in the water, the sky is amazing in that room. I also love the ghostship. Really, I love the whole ride and go on it at least 2 times everytime I visit Disneyland.
