2004 Movies You're Looking Forward To

Post by Luke »

There's already a number of films that have piqued my interest for next year, and only some of them are sequels.

These are ones that I'm interested in:

The Incredibles

Naturally, I think we're all anticipating Pixar's 6th feature. Craig T. Nelson ("Coach") is doing the voice of Mr. Incredible. Should be interesting to have Brad Bird (The Iron Giant) directing and to focus on humans. I'm really interested in this from the teaser, and the concept sounds great.

Ocean's Twelve

The first film is more fun than most films from the past few years and I think the nature of the first one actually caters to a sequel. Rarely do I want to see a sequel this much, and of course, with Soderbergh, Clooney, Pitt, Roberts and company all back, I expect more quality action/comedy in line with the first one.

The Passion

Sounds like a noble project, and the 'negative' buzz just makes me more interested and hopeful. The trailer looks very good and hopefully it won't cater to the dumbed-down Hollywood.

Spider-man 2

Didn't expect to like the first one much, but it was just very well handled. Not excited about Alfred Molina playing the villain, as I really can't stand the guy, but Tobey and James Franco were great in the first one, and I'm excited about it.

The Life Aquatic

Wes Anderson's fourth feature...and it stars none other than Bill Murray. Owen Wilson, Jeff Goldblum, and Angelica Huston all co-starring. I enjoyed all three of Anderson's previous films (each more than the last) and this should be good too.

The Polar Express

I don't know too much about this, but it's directed by Robert Zemeckis, stars Tom Hanks and is a computer-animated Christmas fantasy, apparently. All things sound good to me.

Garfield

While I fear this could be bad, Murray's presence as Garfield just seems perfect to me and so, I'm intrigued.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

I'm not a diehard fan of the first two films and I haven't touched the books, but I did like both of the movies. No Chris Columbus or Richard Harris, unfortunately. But I think by 2004, I'll be quite in the mood to see a third film, unlike the Lord of the Rings movies which seem to come faster than I care to get interested for.

The Miracle

I only know about this one from that thread we had about Disney films of 2004, but it sounds promising. It stars Kurt Russell and is about the true story of the '80 U.S. Olympics hockey team.

The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

I enjoyed the BBC miniseries very much, and if this is done right, it too should be great.

Agent Cody Banks 2

Okay, just how can Hollywood expect us to wait until 2004 for another Cody Banks movie?!

(Just kidding about the last one.)

Any that I missed? What movies are you excited about?

You mentioned all the ones I want to see:

The Incredibles (It's Pixar...enough said)
Ocean's 12 (The fact that Sodenbourgh and the cast are all back is the main reason I wanna see this)
The Passion (FINALLY a realistic and honest Jesus movie)
Spider-Man 2 (First film is one of my favorites)
Polar Express (LOVED this book as a kid)
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Love this book, too, of course, one of my all time favorites)
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (As well as this one)

Ones that I can think of....

Jersey Girl - new Kevin Smith flick. Even though I can't stand J-Lo/Bennifer, always love his stuff.
Home on the Range - A Disney musical about cows. Need I say more?
Spider-man 2 - being a comic geek...
The Punisher - ditto...
The Incredibles - Pixar! What more can I say?
Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights - ok, kidding.....:D
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - didn't like #1, but #2 was great. Hope this is too...
Fahrenheit 9/11 - new one from Michael Moore about September 11 and how the Bush Administration used the tragic event to push it's agenda. Should be interesting...
The Passion does seem very interesting, especially as a lapsed Catholic....

Plus, hopefully a few of my short films will be debuting next year at various festivals, leading into my two planned feature projects (just need the cash....).

I'm sure there are a few others....
Behind the Panels - Comic book news, reviews and podcast
The Reel Bits - All things film

Troy - Wolfgang Peterson directing Brad Pitt in a skirt, what more could you ask for? Decent supporting cast too, including Peter O'Toole, Brian Cox and Eric Bana

The Incredibles, of course - Obviously because it's a Pixar movie, and Brad Bird directing can only be a good thing, given his Simpsonsness.

The Aviator - OK, I wasn't too thrilled by GONY, but it's Scorsese. (GONY was OK)

The first two HP movies were decent enough, so I'll see POA at the cinema; similar story with Spidey.

The Passion certainly sounds intriguing too.

Alien Vs. Predator - Alien kicked ass, Predator kicked ass. Pity that Paul WS Anderson is at the helm, but he might surprise us.

And last but not least, MacGyver

Merged with my old thread which was before your time, MMP!

Nine months later, I've seen "Miracle" and "The Passion of The Christ" (both with changed titles) and was pleased with both. Still very much looking forward to "The Incredibles", "Ocean's Twelve", and "The Life Aquatic" at the end of this year.

Hmmm... off the top of my head...

~ Shrek 2
~ Prisoner of Azkaban
~ Van Helsing
(even though I've heard it's terrible... ;))
~Two Brothers
~Shark Tale
~The Incredibles
~How It Was With Dooms
(aka Duma)
~Super Size Me

Gonna avoid Garfield and Spider-Man 2 like the plague, unless good reviews and word-of-mouth persuade me otherwise. Honestly, I dunno why Spider-Man was ever so successful - poor casting, bad acting, horrible CG effects, cheesy villain... the list goes on.

There's so many movies that I want to see, some that I've already missed in the theater, but I'll just mention my top 5, (with a couple runners-up.)

Runners-Up:
Vanity Fair
I saw a short preview on televsion the other night, and it looked pretty good. I love period pieces and really like Reese Withersppon.

The Terminal
The Tom Hanks/Steven Spielberg combo has worked in the past, why shouldn't it again. The trailer lookes espcially sweet and funny.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
The fact that all of the bakgrounds on this film will be CGI is really intriguing to me, plus the cast of Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law is amazing.

Ok now my Top 5:
5. The Aviator
Howard Hughes was a really interesting guy, and I think DiCaprio will do a good job. I also can't wait to see cate Blancheet as Katherine Hepburn.

4. Troy
I love epic films and how much more epic can a movie be. The cast is wonderful:Brad Pitt, Sean Bean, Eric Bana, and my personal favorite Orlando Bloom.

3.Spider-man 2
I really enjoyed the first one, and look forward the seeing how this one turns out. The trailer is really making me count down the days til this one.

2. King Arthur
Jerry Bruckheimer can either make really awful movies or really fantastic ones. I'm hoping this one will be the latter. The cast looks great. Keira Knightly is my favorite young actress right now after seeing her in 3 great films last year (POTC, Bend it Like Beckham, & Love Actually), and the thought of Ioan Gruffud (The actor who plays the dashing Horatio Hornblower) as Lancelot has me giddy with excitement. I don't even care anymore that there will be no love triangle after seeing the trailer for it a few nights ago. July cannot come soon enogh for me.

and finally my top pick is one nobody has mentioned.

1. J.M. Barrie's Neverland
The moment I saw the poster for this film some months back I knew I wanted to see it. I didn't even know what exactly what it was about. After reading the synopsis on the official website and seeing that it had a PG rating it became the movie I am most anticipating. I haven't even seen a single clip or trailer of it yet. So why put it at Numer one? Kate Winslet is a wonderful actress that I'm growing more and more fonnd of. But the real reason is that I believe Johnny Depp is a genius,The best actor of his generation, and that the story just sounds so warm and beautiful. Check out the poster at the link and you'll see why I immediately became so intrigued by this movie.

Ok I'll stop going on and on. I love movies and can talk about them forever.

If I was only aloud to see one film this year, it would hafta be Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events with Jim Carrey.

Paka, Van Helsing's gotten REALLY GOOD reviews. And Spidey one ruled. You're the only one who didn't like it, so if good reviews and word-of-mouth persuade you, you might as well see it at Midnight the day before.
Cheers,
