Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Monty Python and the Holy Grail is definitely my favorite comedy, and I have often labeled it my favorite movie period. Last year I bought the stupendous 2-Disc Special Edition for the die-hard Holy Grail fan. I love it, but I noticed that Amazon has a "Collector's Edition" is up for pre-order, but it says it has the same specifications as last year's SE, although pretty much everything on the page is the same except for the cover art. What I want to know is, am I going to miss something if I don't purchase this new "Collector's Edition" (which I probably won't because it would be a terrible waste considering the magnificent release I already own), or is this just some marketing gimmick to boost sales. (Columbia/Tri-Star, Please don't stoop to the level of a certain other studio that used to be considered the greatest animation studio by ALL.) I know that Universal is releasing an SE of Monty Python's The Meaning of Life (I didn't get the first DVD release, but I heard that it had just about as much quality as VHS), and I plan on getting that and upgrading my VHS of Monty Python's And Now For Something Completely Different to DVD (I already have the Criterion of Monty Python's Life of Brian), but I want to know about the Pythons' greatest achievement, as it is the best. I'm posting in this forum because since it is a British film, maybe you guys overseas have already seen this new DVD, and know what difference, if any, exists between this and last year's SE, but I welcome information from anyone. Thanks, and sorry about the long sentences.

Without having seen the cover art or anything I cannot say for sure, but ....
My best guess is this is merely a price-drop. Amazon does this with existing DVDs that are dropped in price. They set things up so that it appears as though it's a new release when in fact it is nothing more than a $5 (or whatever the number is) change in the SRP.
Then again I could be wrong about this one, but I know for a fact this is standard practice for Amazon. And if I am wrong and thsi is indeed a new release, how teh heck did I miss this one

it could be a price drop, but there were also problems with the initial release.
It would randomly pop the subtitles up on certain players (including mine).
They did issue replacement discs at the time, but this might be a permanent correction.
GREAT film. One of the best ever...

It includes film cells, a copy of the script. Stuff like that.
Not really worth getting if you have the original as the discs are the same (except the missing nordic subtitles at the beginning may be fixed for this release - but they were probably fixed for the R2/R4 releases anyway).

Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
Some are apparently missing. Only some though. I have the R1 set and would never have noticed.Sethp wrote:Dosn't the r1 release contain the nordic subtitles?2099net wrote:the discs are the same (except the missing nordic subtitles at the beginning may be fixed for this release - but they were probably fixed for the R2/R4 releases anyway).

Thanks for the posts, guys. Mine did pop subtitles up on the living room player (Toshiba), which wasn't a real biggie since most of my movies aren't watched in there (watched on Panasonic just fine), but I haven't checked it on my new player (CyberHome).
