OK, I'm getting read for the Christmas season and I gotta buy some new Christmas DVDs to get in the mood.
First, is the original Miracle on 34th Street in OAR? I know it's in 1.33:1, but I know some movies from this period were filmed that way.
Second, there are so many releases of Rankin/Bass Rudolph. Which is the best one?

Christmas DVD Questions
Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
Re: Christmas DVD Questions
Yep, it was released in the '40s before widescreen became widely used.Practical Pig wrote:First, is the original Miracle on 34th Street in OAR? I know it's in 1.33:1, but I know some movies from this period were filmed that way.
I have just the box set with 5 specials on 3 DVDs (Frosty the Snowman, Frosty Returns, The Little Drummer Boy, Santa Claus is Comin' To Town, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer), and as far as I know, the only thing that's changed is packaging (and price).Practical Pig wrote:Second, there are so many releases of Rankin/Bass Rudolph. The best <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... >currently available version</a> apparently includes a bonus CD and is the lowest-priced. This set looks like this:

The older version of the set with the higher price, different box, and no CD, is also apparently still available. That's what I have, but this new version seems like the way to go - it's just $27.99 at Amazon.
There are probably a few other Rankin/Bass DVDs too, but I think the Christmas set is crucial.
Hmm, now that I reread your comment, you may just be interested in Rudolph. (That's my favorite of their specials too.) Rudolph alone is half the price of the 5-special set, but this version appears to be the latest one:

Again, it looks like just a repackaging, plus the addition of the Destiny's Child CD single.

Even with Destiny's Child on it?disneywb wrote:I just picked up the Rudolph one a few days ago at Wal*Mart for $11. Definitely worth the purchase, and the cover is a lot better than the old dvd cover.
