The Emperor's New School

Post by 2099net »

Fresh from my long ago Emperor's Newer Groove scoop I've now found not only confirmation of the DTV Sequel but also a hint at a ENG TV Series!

http://www.jimhillmedia.com/legacy/inde ... ntentFrame
And don't give me that "Wasn't 'The Emperor's New Groove' a flop?" crap. Far from it, folks. "Groove" actually turned a modest profit during its initial theatrical release, then proved to be a huge hit in the after-market: video, cable and DVD. That's why Disney is currently producing a direct-to-video sequel to the film -- tentatively titled "The Emperor's Newer Groove" -- as well as seriously looking into doing a "Groove" TV series.
Hope this news pleases IggieKuzco!

it probably will please him!!!

as for the direct to video, I hope it's better than Cinderella 2 and Lilo & Stitch. It looks like the Lilo & Stitch series is a flop.

Well, I don't know about Lilo and Stitch: The Series (friggin' UK schedules - and when it does come on it will probably be buried in a crappy Saturday Morning Children's show). But I do know that I would kill* to be part of the creative team of a Emperor's New Groove series.

This series, if done correctly, should have no creative limits. It should be all out Looney Tunes type comedy. I really hope this series lives up to it's potential.

* Not really, but I would scream very, very loud (until I'm sick).

As much as I loved TENG a DTV sequel scares the hell outta me.
I think a big part of this is getting the key players back to do the voices (David Spade, John Goodman, Eartha Kitt, Patrick Warburton).

Emperos New Groove TV Show

Post by Disney Guru »

:o Well that would be nice if their was going to be a TV Show about Emperors New Groove. That is one of my favorite DIsney Movies. I bught the DVD about 8 months ago and I love the movie. The funniest phrase is this

Eezma: Pull The Lever Kronk

Kronk: (pulls Lever)

Eezma Wrong Lever!

Boy I can;t wait for this to be a TV Show if it ever is.

remember Hercules the serie???

Kuzco will be approximtively the same as the emperor will be presented in his young age, at the college.

Big mistake. :(

I suppose this is Disney (a) wanting to save money on voice work (which probably didn't work in Hercules' case, given the wide range of famous guest stars) and (b) stupidly thinking a younger main character will appeal to a younger audience.

Wrong on both counts. Paying for the original voice artists will mean more appeal for people who liked the original movie and sticking to the same madcap humour as the film will appeal to original movie fans and children of any age.

How expensive can it be to get the cast back anyhow? They managed for Lilo and Stitch (on the whole). And they'd only make a maximum of 65 episodes anyway, no matter how popular it was

i think because it will be a lot funnier that way. At the end of the ovie, Kuzco became nice...

So in his first years, we'll discover him as egocentric and as villain as in the beginning of the 1st movie.

Well, I think it's debatable how "nice" Kuzco did become at the end of the movie. Let's just say, they wouldn't be contradicting anything if some of his old character reasserted itself - especially when interacting with people other than Pacha.

Really, I think continuing on from the movie would be the wise decision - that way characters like Pacha and his family could continue to appear (I feel John Goodman's talents was a strong reason for the films success) and you could still get humour from the inner confict of the "old" and "new" Kuzco. Perhaps he could get his own "shoulder angels" :)

Plus it leaves the series open for more storylines - Kuzco is the ruler of the country which could result in invading army, arranged marriage, diplomatic visit, etc. storylines while Pacha is still in his village which could result in other storylines; weather problems, thieves, fierce animals etc. Add to this stories based on Aztec mythology, aliens (they are supposed to have influenced Aztec architecture - according to some!), witches and magic and there should be no limits to the imagination (and very few animal transformations!)

If I was doing the series, and this is just off the top of my head, I'd de-kitten Yzma (but it wouldn't quite work, so like the hulk in reverse she'd transform back into a kitten if she got too angry) and have her as a regular character (but not in every episode). I'd also set up a running joke about a Princess from a neighboring Kingdom being in-love with Kuzco (but her father wants to invade Kuzco's Kingdom) so they could appear in a few episdodes.

I'd also love to do an episode involving time-travel, and Make it like Back to the Future 2, with the "future" characters interacting with themselves in the original movie. Other ideas would be alien abductions, a travelling con-man conning Kuzco out of his kingdom, somebody damming the river and witholding the water from Pacha's farm and village, somebody discovering electricity, a feud between Yzma and another evil witch, a giant wooden robot... The list is almost endless.

The Emperor's New Groove TV series coming to Disney Channel

Post by MickeyMousePal »

The Emperor's New Groove TV series coming to Disney Channel

Source: http://www.animated-news.com
Disney Channel has given the go-ahead to a cartoon series based on the 2000 theatrical release The Emperor's New Groove. The kids' cable network has ordered 21 episodes of Emperor's New Skool for 2006. Groove has performed well on Disney Channel in the past; an Aug. 21 airing was tops in its time period among kids and households. The TV series transplants the main characters from Groove into a new setting: the Incan public school system. Deposed emperor Kuzco must now pass all of his classes and foil the scheming partnership of Yzma and Kronk to reclaim his throne. Casting has not yet been announced. The film featured the voices of David Spade, John Goodman and Eartha Kitt.
Ok, now we know that The Emperor's Newer Groove is coming to DVD 2005 for sure. Hey, this sounds better then That's so Raven.
The new sequel might develop a series like Lilo and Stitch did back in 2003.

Sounds cool, but yet scary. If it is put together well, then it should be good. But, I thought Lilo and Stitch the series was boring. And every time I watch it, I get nautious. Anyway, Eartha Kitt will probably join, because if she is willing to lend her voice to Nickelodeon for My Life as a Teenage Robot then she will certainly lend her voice to Disney. Same goes for Patrick Warburton, who already does Kim Possible for Disney.

Sounds like they were inspired by Billy Madison!

Kuzco: "I can see da lips movin', but I can't make out da words! I'm deaf! Boom baby!"

I bet they'll be able to get David Spade. He seems to be out of a job right now.

What's so insane about it? All companies like Disney do TV shows of already popular entities. Disney's been doing it since the early '90s. Not sure why you're so irked by it.

I hope this is good. I really think the feature is underrated. If it turns out as good as the Lilo and Stitch series, I will be happy. Just please not another series like Hercules (no offense, because I'm sure someone's a fan of it)
