What should Pixar do next after CARS?

Post by Condor Hero »

In the year 2006, if Pixar and Disney shall come to another agreement, what should Pixar tack on next?

Pixar has aleady done “Toys comes to life”, “Talking bugs”, “Monsters are real”, “Talking fishes”, and “Superheroes”, then “Talking cars” for next year.

IF they do collaborate once more, which of the following should Pixar do?:

“Talking mammals”
Think traditional Disney animated classics about talking animals. It could be done in a forrest, a jungle, a farm, a dessert, suburban, or city.

“Horror icons”
The truth about the horror characters, think Monsters, Inc., but based on already exists entities such as vampires, werewolves, zombies, mummies, Frankenstein's monster, etc. Rated PG in the vain of The Nightmare Before Christmas.

“Outer space”
About aliens, stars, planets, and other outer space clichés. OR it could be about aliens invading earth.

“Medieval Fantasy”
Set in medieval time like Shrek. It could be about knights and kings and such.

“Sports”
About a certain sport, football, basketball, baseball or even a made-up one! The ideas are endless.

“A realistic family film”
Totally realistic while retaining the classic Pixar feel. NO talking animals or toys or cars, just humans (that are not superheroes mind you).

Which one you like?

Well, aren't they doing that movie about rats? Or is that just a rumor? I suppose that would fall under "talking rodents." In any event, I don't want to try and guess what would be a good idea for Pixar. They're Pixar - they come up with the ideas! :shifty:

Interesting thread, though! I can imagine Pixar striking gold with any of these formulas.

Talking Rats? I never heard of that. I don't particularly like rats, well except for Rizzo and his pals - they're funny.

I don't know what Pixar should do next. I don't know about the medieval fantasy thing..i don't think they should be the ones copying dreamworks, that might mean that they're really stuck on a new idea. If they could think up a clever outer space related story, it would be cool. i can't think of a really good outer space/ alien animated movie off the tope of my head right now. they can do so much in outer space, it's a very large area to cover. but i'm sure whatever comes next, even if it is talking rats, will turn out into a good movie.

I would have to go with “Outer space” they could do a Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger movie about the origin of Buzz past life.

Supposedly, they are doing a movie about rats called "Ratatouille". BoxOfficeMojo.com even lists it as a 2006 release. Appropriately enough, DreamWorks also has a rat flick in the works for 2006 called "Flushed Away" or something of the sort.

I think it would be cool to see Pixar do some more "human world" movies, since most of their flicks so far haven't really focused on that, other than Incredibles, obviously.

But that's not really copying, because Pixar will not include any pop culture reference in their films like Shrek, and probably except for the timeline, it will be nothing like Shrek.

This will probably be too similar to the direct-to-video Disney film, and will lead to inevitable comparisons. I suggest they do an original film if they do tack on this theme.

"This movie follows the adventures of a rat named Ratatouille who lives in an extremely fancy restaurant in Paris overseen by an eccentric, world-famous chef. "

I think this sums up everyone's feelings about Pixar:
"the concept is still a fun one, and I always look forward to seeing what Pixar has in the works next, because they are establishing that no only do they serve up some of the most dazzling computer animation we've seen, but they value well-written, well-structured comedies with nicely developed characters. They don't just make good "cartoons," they make good movies. "
Also, Greg Dean Schmitz from UpcomingMovies.com has an interesting commentary on Pixar's Disney contract and what may happen if it's not renewed:
With this being the first movie to be released after their current contract with Disney, Pixar has decided to make the focus for their 8th feature film be a rodent (often reported as being a mouse, but that's not 100% confirmed yet). It's not much of a stretch to see a parallel between a "mouse movie" and the "Mouse House," so in a way this movie has a slight Shrek feel, which also took a few joking jabs at Walt Disney Pictures. In other words, the suggestion is here that Pixar may be posed to become yet another competitor to Disney's legacy as a family-friendly studio and brand name (something DreamWorks is also developing, and there are a few different competitors to Pixar and PDI). Of course, if Pixar *does* sign back on with Disney again, this movie could just as easily be released as a Disney movie, and the mouse connection would... make sense in a way.
I personally feel that Steve Jobs will make good friends with Disney's next chairman/CEO and a contract will be signed; as long as the new guy is not simply a Eisner rip-off but someone completely fresh. Even if they didn't go back with Disney though, I think Pixar would profit in basically the same way currently if they were to transfer to Fox or Warner (Fox being my choice between the two; similar to Lucas' contract). What I would fear from a non-Disney contract would be missing out on one of the best marketing schemes out there (no more McDonald's toys!!)

O and I agree; it doesnt really matter what Pixar chooses to do; I trust them whole-heartedly to craft a wonderful story accompanied with breathtaking visuals.

I personally would love Pixar to take on Outer Space of the choices.

And I used to work with Jan's sister, Eva! :D I never got any inside scoops though. In fact, I reported stuff to her that she told her brother and he would say "How did he find that out?" :D They wanted to keep the Rat film secret - it could be taken as a snub towards another famous rodent!

Dreamworks film is by Aardman Animation (Chicken Run, Wallace and Gromit) and has been in the works for literally years and years (perhaps over 10 from its original concept off and on). I can categorically state "It is not a copy".

I chose Outer Space because I'm a Trekkie at heart. Maybe they could do something along the lines of Space Cases (kids lost in space), or Galaxy Quest (actors playing their sci-fi tv parts), or perhaps something new, like "The Adventures of Escapay":

(Kram and I actually wrote this in the car on the way to visit Jane at college. We'd alternate lines, but that went too slow, so we began to alternate whenever we felt like we didn't want to write anymore)
On the way to see Jane, Kram and Escapay wrote:There once was a spaceboy named Escapay. He lived on Kalua, the 36th planet from the star Chalopa. His best friend, who was from Targrans (18th from Chalopa) was tarjay. Tarjay had a spacedog named Zwitter, who could stand on his tail if you pulled his left ear. And now that we know who everyone is, let's begin...The Adventures of Escapay!!!

Chapter 1: Zwanzig, the all-knowing

Escapay and Whammy (who used to be called Tarjay) traveled far and wide to visit the all-knowing Zwanzig in his kiwi shaped abode. They didn't tell their parents, because they're such worrywarts, and so they hitched a ride on a passing Trewall ship, which as everyone knows, is only the best way to go gallivanting about the galaxy.

Captain Bud Von Get (with a J sound) welcomed all gallivanters on his good ship Trewell.

"Welcome!" the jolly fat captain said, as he handed them t-shirts that read "A lot of Pie is good for piemakers." Soon more guests came onboard and the captain had run out of t-shirts, so after t-shirt 32,427 was given away, no more guests were allowed on board. Fortunately, the guest that would have been 32,428 was a smelly Nadderl from Nad, so no one had to smell him. Escapay, whose nose was broken and in the shop, felt pity for the Nadderl and gave him a kazoo so Nadderl would feel better. The kazoo played only one song, "Eleanor Rigby", but uf you donated 700 starbucks to the "FREE THE OZEBURLS!" cause, they would give you ten songs. "Interuterine, An Ode to Childbirth" was the rare song given with a donation of 3,754 starbucks and a lane of pennies.

Soon the Trewell ship was on its way to Earth, where Zwanzig was thought to live, and Escapay and Tarjay (he's Tarjay again) were sitting in a lounge with their friend Buffliette, and they were playing Tixe, a card game.

"Tlef!" said Escapay, since he had managed to obtain all the Jacks and a four of diamonds. Consequently, a sea monkey had his money, so Escapay couldn't declare Tlef until he could prove he was a natural blue. To do this, Tarjay and Buffliette had to help him remove his exoskeleton to show Bernice, the sea monkey who also happened to have quite a big schnozz, that he was a natural blue.

Bernice laughed when she saw Escapay's exoskeleton. But Bernice laughed so hard that she had to excuse herself to the "MeMe" room, in turn Escapay still could not declare Tlef. Captain Bud Von Get entered the lounge to tell them that they'd be at Earth in about an hour and to freshen up because there'd be a "Welcome to Earth" party once they landed and the party was hosted by Trebla Tierrezug, President of the world Earth.

"Isn't Earth one of the leading planets who produces fluit?" Tarjay asked, as he brushed his teeth with flooberoo paste.

"That's Ealth, Tarjay," Escapay said. "Earth is where Zwanzig is, along with those cities from the daily documentaries we've been watching. You know, Guiding Light and All My Children and such."

"You mean we'll get to see Llanview, Pine Valley, and Harmony!?" Buffliette asked as she barged into their room wih her cat Sicilian Pi Zaa, who immediately began hissing at Zwitter, who was shaving behind his ears.

And this concluded their talk about daily documentaries.

"Planet ho!" Captain Bud Von Get cried as they landed in Earth's orbit.

"Planet Ho? We're going to the planet filled with chocolate pastry-like cakes?" the rather dim Bernice said.

"No, that's Planet Ho-Ho, the land of milk and pastries," said Escapay. "But Planet Ho is the planet where Santa's Elves come from."

"No, that's Planet Ho-Ho-Ho, the land of eternal winter," Buffliette said. "But I wouldn't mind going to Planet Ho-Ho-Ho-Ho-Ho, the planet of Gabby's Girls where they serve you naked popcorn."

"Eww," said Tarjay. They then disembarked onto the ship that would take them to the transporters that would beam them to the transit system that would transport them to the customs building that they'd register at, then ride the great glass elevators to the surface of Earth where they were to be welcomed.

"My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, and they're like, it's better than yours, damn right, it's better than yours," the elevator played.

"Ancient 21st Century music," sighed Buffliette. "Can we change the Muzak?"

"For 21 starbucks," said Stan the Elevator Man. So the four (Escapay, Tarjay, Buffliette, and Bernice) each gave 5 starbucks and Zwitter gave one. The muzak changed to "Space Cowboy" by NSYNC. Everyone burst out laughing at the ancient boyband music and their silly lyrics. The history of the group was bittersweet, because the one named Justin was overpromoted in later years and couldn't commit to anyone after his fiance Cameron Diaz ran out from their wedding.

"Jilted? Poor boy...Jilted Justin was a great tragedy, by the way. I saw it at the Zanadoozy Operahouse last week," said Bernice. "The sea monkey who played Justin was wonderful. Some say he was related to Timberlake himself, since he was the great (x30) son of Kimberly Williams-Paisley who was rumored to have an affair with him. But I don't believe it because she was a good person, you know she founded the Correspondence College for underprivileged teenagers."

"Wasn't that Vanessa Williams?" said Escapay.

"No! I'm right, I know it! Study your history, mon!"

"Hey, did you learn about how-"

"Velcome to Earth!" said a big happy group. They were Svedes, not to be confused with Swedes.

"Ve are happy you are here!" one of the Svedes said. They then parted in the middle, and President Trebla walked towards them.

"Omagosh! It's the President!" Tarjay whispered to Escapay.

"Let me try something," Buffliette said. "Look Tarjay, it's a tar salesman!"

"Omagosh, it's a tar salesman!" Tarjay said.

"I welcome you to Earth people of..." Trebla whispered to his assistant Philmore, "Where is it they are from?"

"Kalua, Targrans, Snooter, and Kumbaya, the planet of sea monkeys," said Philmore.

"Welcome people of Qualooyah, Targrannys, Snooter and Kumbaya, the planet of sea monies!"

There was a big party, filled with music and entertainment. Then, the witch Eglantine Price the 33rd did some magic. "Ooh, ahh!" they all said. When she turned Captain Bud Von Get into a lovely toad with pink eyes, they laughed hysterically. After the magic acts, they took a transporter to Lake Buena Vista, to visit Disney City and the Parks Museum.

"And to your left is a recreation of beautiful Schweitzer Falls. I'd like you to notice this area here," the tour guide said as she piloted their tour boat behind the falls. "A common spiel mentioned this rare view fo the backside of water!"

"Ooooh!" the guests said. Zwitter took a picture and Bernice tried to drink some of it.

"Ma'am, please don't drink this recreated water," the guide said. "It's fake water, and yes, there is such a thing as fake water."

They then went over to the moviehouse, where there was a screening of "Reubstory", the hilarious comedy. Escapay loved the scene at MGM during Millionaire Play It!

"Millionaire is so little now," Escapay said. "They really should convert to spacebucks here on Earth. Or at least change from millionaire to googlian."

"I didn't get that one joke about Zenon and Days of our Lives and 7th Heaven," said Tarjay.

"Well, duh! It was quite obvious!" said Buffliette.

"Yeah! It was obvious!" said Bernice. She started laughing, thinking about the joke.

"Hehehe, I can't believe you didn't get it," said Escapay. Tarjay still felt confused but also mad that his friends were laughing at him. So he ditched them and went over to Tomorrowland, where with a little thing called time travel, allowed it always to be Tomorrowland, not Todayland or Yesterdayland, or worse, Disneyland's Tomorrowland from 1998 on.

Tarjay was enjoying the recreated Adventures Thru Inner Space when suddenly there was a flash and a Winnebago with wings appeared. A family in silver came out.

"I thought we were gonna visit the past," the daughter said.

"Well this future is someone's past, Pim," the dad said.

"Hey look! Escapay!" the son said.

"Idiot, that's Tarjay!" Pim said.
And we stopped there.

I voted for talking mammals.

I like all these ideas, so rather off-topicly, I'll invent a storyline for each idea.

“Talking mammals”
The Rescuers meets Some Like it Hot. A married mouse couple who can't make it big on a moused-up Broadway witness terrorists plotting. The terrorists chase the mice around the world, who threaten to report them to the FBI. At many a destination, the mice get popularity in various ways.

“Horror icons”
How about a witch human romantic comedy? A gothic witch falls in love with a Salem witch hunter's son...

“Outer space”
Can't think of anything at the top of my head, but they could adapt my story. (Want to read it? PM me)

“Medieval Fantasy”
I like the idea of a twist on a classic fairy tale by telling the story of a secondary character in a classic fairy tale.

“Sports”
Reunite all the Toy Story, Monsters Inc, A Bug's Life and Incredibles characters and put them in a tennis tornament. Simple!

“A realistic family film”
Can't think...

I'd love to see Pixar tackle a Medieval fantasy. Not just Medieval, either, but any kind of fantasy involving mystical creatures and magic. Pixar's done wonders making imaginative stories out of things like toys, bugs, and fish (monsters and superheroes are already imaginative to begin with, so Pixar just took it further). The thought of Pixar using up all that creativity on a genre that has no limits (so they wouldn't have to do vital research to keep things realistic like with Bug's Life or Nemo) intrigues me very much.

welcome to the forum, violetrocks34 :)

ok.
A while ago we had a what should Disney tackle thread and I was thinking one of the good things that could be done in Animation would be Outer Space/Science Fiction and otherwordly concepts and creatures cus on animation you have no limits so whatever you imagine you can do and Science Fiction leads itself to this. (just seeing some of Luke's screencaps for the <a href="http://www.ultimatedisney.com/tomorrowl ... morrowland Treasure</a> sends my mind soaring)

So i think Pixar with its superior animation and storytelling skills could and should do something ambitious with this one day. I mean awesome CGI spaceships and SF technology and concepts would be a piece of cake and they could create characters as endearing and popular as those from other "starxxx" movies and they already proven they can make longer length movies to encompass an epic scale

but of course Pixar with its story and talent and quality technique philosophy can do anything they want and be succesful at it. (Sounds almost like Walt Disney's philosophy ain't it?) So all the other ideas are cool too. And might be done in time.

Wasn't Brad Bird's next movie after TI supposed to be a '50s-style sci-fi movie called "Ray Gun"? He's doing that with Pixar, I believe. If so, it won't be released for at least 3 years, of course.

My vote went to Medieval Fantasy I dont know it seems very different to a lot of things they have done so far. And knowing them they would do somehting totaly creative.

On a Different note I am not sure how down I am with Dream Works always doing stories that are smillar to Pixar's thats just lame.
