Does anyone own Johnny Tremain R2?

Post by ichabod »

Does anyone own Johnny Tremain on DVD, because Disney are claiming that it has not been released! I know there are a few people here who have said they were going to buy it, but did anyone actually do so?

I tried to order this DVD from hmv.co.uk but it never arrived, rather it went onto 'special order' which I believe translates as 'not a chance buddy!'. It is now listed on most websites as deleted, despite having a release date of barely 2 months ago. The same happened with 'Candleshoe', which was supposedly released and then deleted within weeks.

I did wonder if this was because 'Johnny Tremain' was quite an obscure title and had received very little interest, but I cannot imagine this would be the case with 'Candleshoe' as it is a fairly popular film here.

What is interesting with Johnny Tremain is that as far as I can work out it never received a UK video release, even on the rental market as the majority of Disney movies did in the early 1980s. I remember seeing it on TV once, but this has to be a least about 10 years ago, and I don't think it has been broadcast since.

Maybe Disney think us Brits will take offence to the Boston Tea Party!
See ya real soon!

I ordered a copy from loaded but am still waiting for it. I hope it hasn't been deleted as that seems harsh as it was (allegedly) released only a few months ago.
I didn't know Candleshoe had even got a region 2 release! I saw someone on ebay selling it (but they were using the R1 picture) and offering it as R2 which I thought was odd. Why take it off the market?
Maybe Disney think we can't handle the obscure or lesser known titles?! I'll have to win the lottery and buy all the Disney dvd's I don't have and then I'll never miss a title again!!

Amazon.co.uk removed the listing from their site altogether, but I thought for some time it was shipping out. Maybe that was just wishful thinking and it was a preorder. This was definitely one of the more intriguing Region 2 Disney exclusives, so its mysteryious disappearance is a shame.

Well, I ordered it ages ago but it clearly isn't coming! I keep looking for a copy but I'm not confident about getting hold of one. Loaded are basically sending an email every week or so telling me that I have it on order. As if I didn't already know! I'm now trying the obscure places. Years ago a little newsagent in my town had five vhs copies of The Little Mermaid and it had been out of print for ages! Obviously no one thought to look in there for a copy so I might just try them for Johnny Tremain! Fingers crossed! Was it really released, though or am I just wasting my time?

It had a release date and the cover art has been done for it so i suspect at some point it was supposed to be released. When i first started to suspect that it hadn't was when i emailed BVHE to find out was the aspect ratio was, and the reply email just said that they had not released it, implying that they were going too, but didn't!
