I Love Lucy: S1 vs. S2?

Post by AwallaceUNC »

The price for the first season of I Love Lucy on DVD is $75 - $100, yet the newly released second season can be gotten for aorund $40 - $50. Does anyone know the reason for this huge difference in price?

It's because Columbia at first made the stupid mistake of releasing season one in volumes instead of in one boxed set. There were like 3 or 4 volumes with a couple of episodes per disc. Once they were all released, Columbia packaged them all into a season boxed set, but then got lots of complaints about that, so they did season 2 in a more sensible way. Unfortunately, they haven't revisited season 1, so now seasons 1 and 2 don't match each other at all. Season 1's made up of individual keepcases whereas season 2's a digipak like other tv shows on DVD.

Thanks, DK. What do you think are the odds of them reissuing Season 1 in normal packaging at an affordable price? Maybe that will depend on how well S2 does.
