OK I'll bite -

Lyrics are especially important to me when enjoying music. I especially like songs that tell a story (more on those later) or song with thought provoking phrases or passages. (That said, I also like Britney Spears).

Below are some of my favourite excerpts from songs.

If She Knew What She Wants - Bangles

Some have a style,
That they work hard to refine.
So they walk a crooked line.
But she won't understand. Why,
Anyone would have to try
to walk a line when they can fly.

Birdhouse in Your Soul - They Might Be Giants

I'm your only friend.
I'm not yout only friend.
But I'm a little glowing friend.
But really I'm not actually your friend.
But I am

We Close Our Eyes - Oingo Boingo

We close our eyes,
and the world has turned around again.
We close our eyes and dream,
and another year has come and gone.
We close our eyes,
and the world has turned around again.
We close our eyes,
and dream...

City of Dreams - Talking Heads

Here where you are standing,
Dinosaurs did a dance.

Dream Operator - Talking Heads

When you were little,
You dreamed you were big.
You must have been something.
A real tiny kid.

You wish you were me;
I wish I was you.
Now don't you wake up.
The dream will come true

Turnin' Pages - Peter Wolf

I'm lookin' back.
So many faces.
My life. My love.
Turnin' pages.
I can't go back.
To all the old places.
My life's movin' on.
Turnin' Pages.

Little Black Book - Belinda Carlisle

Ain't no future living in the past.
You can dream, but you can never go back

As I said, I also like songs which tell a specific story or concept, but aren't particularly "ballards" in the true sense. Below is a list of songs with stories, and a brief summary of their concept.

Independence Day - Martina McBride
A song about wife-abuse.

Somebody - David Bryne
A song about identity and living up to media created ideals of beauty.

Wuthering Heights - Kate Bush
A song about [drumroll] Wuthering Heights.

I'll Set You Free - The Bangles
A song about a failing relationship.

He'll Thinks He'll Keep Her - Mary Chapin Carpenter
A song about a woman escaping a loveless marriage.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Ok, I'll post some lyrics to my fav songs:

Around the world - ATC
The kisses of the sun were sweet I didn't blink
I let it in my eyes like an exotic dream
the radio playin songs that I have never heard
I don't know what to say oh, not another word

Genie in a bottle - DJMike
If you wanna be with me
Baby there's a price to pay
I'm a genie in a bottle
You gotta rub me the right way
If you wanna be with me
I can make your wish come true
You gotta make a big impression
I gotta like what you do

Brains - Billy and Mandy (cartoonnetwork)
Brains, brains, I won't lie,
I'll eat their brains 'til they're zombified.
Sure, they might think it's deranged,
but they won't give it a thought after I've eaten their brains.
Brains, brains, it's okay -- it's not matter if it isn't grey
and if, at first, they think it's strange,
they won't think twice if they don't have a brain.

We like to party - Vengaboys
The venga bus is comin' & everybody's jumpin',
New York through San FranSisco,
An Interstate free disco,
The wheels of steel are turnin' & traffic lights are burnin',
so if you like to party,
Get on and move your body

Iris/I just want you to know who I am - Googoo dolls
And I don’t want the world to see me
’cause I don’t think that they’d
Understand
When everything’s made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

That's all I'm gonna put. If I put more, then.....I'd fill up this whole page! Maybe even 2! @.@

I Feel - The Sundays
I'm here
I'm someone to know
I'm calling the tune but
I'm losing the words

Love - The Sundays
picture my house in a postcard town
picture a bomb in the sky
history at the door who could ask for more?
I've felt better

Love Alone - Caedmon's Call
No one would love me if they knew
All the things I hide.
My words fall to the floor
As tears drip through the telephone line.
And the hands I've seen raised to the sky,
Not waving, but drowning all this time.

A Million Parachutes - Sixpence None the Richer
Like a million parachutes,
The snow's coming down.
I'll lock up the front door,
And turn the lights down.
In the glow of the street-lights,
I see them descend.
Like a million parachutes,
Small men on a mission.

Tension is a Passing Note - Sixpence None the Richer
But tension it to be loved when it is like
A passing note
To a beautiful, beautiful chord.
Meega na la queesta.
static & silence and a monochrome vision

Okie, this is going to be fun. I'll add more as I go along, but these are ones I like at the moment, or come to mind immediately as my faves:

From Tim Rogers & the Twin Set - "You Just Don't Do it For Me Friend"
Like an arthouse movie or 50 dollars of wine
I just miss the point every single time
But you just don't do it for me friend
And I just don't think I like the way this is gonna end

From Whiskeytown - Jacksonville Skyline
I was born in an abundance of inherited sadness
With 50 cent picture frames bought at a five and dime
I ended up a soldier on the weekend
Looking for a vacancy I wasn't able to find
Somewhere the night sky hangs like a blanket
Shoot it with my capgun just to make it
Seem like stars

From David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
Making love with his ego, Ziggy sucked up into his mind
Like a leper messiah
When the kids had killed the man I had to break up the band

Ziggy Played Guitaaaaaarrrrrrrrr.

Radiohead - Paranoid Android
Ambition makes you look pretty ugly
Kicking and squealing gucci little piggy

From The Replacements - Bastards of Young
God, what a mess, on the ladder of success
Where you take one step and miss the whole first rung
Dreams unfulfilled, graduate unskilled
It beats pickin' cotton and waitin' to be forgotten

We are the sons of no one, bastards of young

and of course....

From Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues
When I was just a baby my mama told me. Son,
always be a good boy, don´t ever play with guns.
But I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die

A few lines:

"Friends don't waste wine when there's words to sell " - Interpol, "Obstacle 2"

"I don't pretend to know what you what, but I offer love" - Crowded House, "Distant Sun"

I have quite a few songs that I really like :

That Girl

There was a girl I knew who always wanted to be the one to stand out from the crowd
Always believed that she was gonna live her dreams
That what went down was gonna come around
For all the doubters, non-believers, the cynicals that once were dreamers
One of these days you'll open up your eyes
And you'll realize

That girl was a one time teenage drama queen
A hot, tough everyday wannabee
But she'll have changed her destiny
Now she's a somebody
That girl was a wild child dreamer but she'll find herself
'Cause she believes in nothin' else
And you'll look back and you won't believe
That girl was me

Breakaway
Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I just stared out my window
Dreaming of what could be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray (I would pray)

Trying not to reach out
But when I'd try to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I pray (I would pray)
I could breakaway

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I loved
I'll take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway

What Dreams are made of
Yesterday my life was duller
Now everything's technicolor

Autobiography
You think you know me
Word on the street is that you do
You want my history
What others tell you won't be true

I walked a thousand miles while everyone was asleep
Nobody's really seen my million subtleties

Got stains on my t-shirt and I'm the biggest flirt
Right now I'm solo, but that will be changing eventually, oh
Got bruises on my heart and sometimes I get dark
If you want my auto, want my autobiography
Baby, just ask me

I hear you talking
Well, it's my turn now
I'm talking back
Look in my eyes
So you can see just where I'm at

I walked a thousand miles to find one river of peace
I walked a million more to find out what this sh** means

Over it
How could you know
That behind my eyes a sad girl cried
And how could you know
That i hurt so much inside
And how could you know
That i'm not the average girl
I'm carrying the weight of the world
YEAH!
So can you get me outta here
Take me away
We'll jump in the car
Drive til the gas runs out and then walk so far
That we can't
See this place anymore
Take a day off
Give it a rest
So i can forget about this mess
If i lighten up a little bit,
Then i will be
Over It

Ordinary Day
Just a day,
Just an ordinary day.
Just tryin to get by.

Okay thats all I can really think of right now :) .

"Summer Girls" by LFO (<u>L</u>yte <u>F</u>unky <u>O</u>nes)

Yeah...I like it when the girls stop by
In the summer
Do you remember?
Do you remember
When we met that summer...

Chorus
New Kids on the Block had a bunch of hits
Chinese food makes me sick
And I think it's fly when girls stop by for the summer,
for the summer
I like girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch
I'd take her if I had one wish
But she's been gone since that summer,
since that summer

Hip-hop marmalade Spic & Span
Met you one summer and it all began
You're the best girl that I ever did see
The great Larry Bird, jersey 33
When you take a sip, you buzz like a hornet
Billy Shakespeare wrote a whole bunch of sonnets
Call me Willy Whistle cause I can't speak baby
Somethin' in your eyes went and drove me crazy
Now I can't forget you and it makes me mad
Left one day and never came back
Stayed all summer then went back home
Macaulay Culkin was in "Home Alone"
Fell deep in love, but now we ain't speakin'
Michael J. Fox was Alex P. Keaton
When I met you I said my name was Rich
You look like a girl from Abercrombie and Fitch

(Chorus)

Cherry Pez, Coke, crush rock star boogie
Used to hate school, so I had to play hookie
Always been hip to the B-Boy style
Known to act wild and make a girl smile
Love New Edition and the "Candy Girl"
Remind me of you because you rock my world
You come from Georgia where the peaches grow
They drink lemonade and speak real slow
You love hip-hop and rock & roll
Dad took off when you were 4 years old
There was a good man named Paul Revere
I feel much better baby when you're near
You love Fun Dip and Cherry Coke
I like the way you laugh when
I tell a joke When I met
you I said my name was Rich
You look like a girl from Abercrobie and Fitch

(Chorus)

In the summertime girls got it goin' on
Shake and wiggle to a hip-hop song
Summertime girls are the kind I like
I'll steal your honey like I stole your bike
Boogaloo shrimp and pogo sticks
My mind takes me back there oh so quick
Let you off the hook like my man Mr. Limpet
Think about that summer and I bug cause I miss it
Like the color purple, macaroni and cheese
Ruby red slippers and a bunch of trees
Call you up, but what's the use
I like Kevin Bacon, but I hate Footloose
You came in the door, I said it before
I think I'm over you, but I'm really not sure
When I met you I said my name was Rich
You look like a girl from Abercrombie and Fitch

(Chorus)

In the summer girls come and summer girls go
Some are worthwhile and some are so-so
Summer girls come and summer girls go
Some are worthwhile and some are so-so
Summertime girls got it goin' on
Shake and wiggle to a hip hop song
Summertime girls are the kind I like
I'll steal your honey like I stole your bike

(Chorus)

Ooh - whole new thread: misheard lyrics!

For years I thought AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long" was "You SHOULD be all night long..." :P

This is one of my favourite songs... Glenn Medeiros' Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You...

If I had to live my life without you near me
The days would all be empty
The nights would seem so long
With you I see forever oh so clearly
I might have been in love before
But it never felt this strong

Our dreams are young
And we both know they'll take us
Where we want to go

(Chorus 1)
Hold me now
Touch me now
I don't want to live without you

(Chorus 2)
Nothing's gonna change my love for you
You oughta know by now how much I love you
One thing you can be sure of
I'll never ask for more than your love

(Chorus 3)
Nothing's gonna change my love for you
You oughta know by now how much I love you
The world may change my whole life through
But nothing's gonna change my love for you

If the road ahead is not so easy,
Our love will lead the way for us
Like a guiding star
I'll be there for you if you should need me
You don't have to change a thing
I love you just the way you are
So come with me and share the view
I'll help you see forever too

(Repeat Chorus 1)

(Repeat Chorus 2)

(Repeat Chorus 3)

(Repeat Chorus 2) (2X)

(Repeat Chorus 3)

(Repeat Chorus 2)

I could fill up the entire Internet with these. But for now:

"I, charm you and tell you,
Of the girls I hate,
Of the boys I hate,
All the words I hate,
All the clothes I hate,
And how I'll never be,
Anything I hate"
-'The Dark of the Matinee', Franz Ferdinand

"Everybody's got somethin' to hide, except for ME AND MY MONKEY!"
-'Me and My Monkey', The Beatles

and pretty much any White Stripes lyric will do, but here's a good one:

"I had a brain that felt like pancake batter"
-'The Hardest Button to Button', The White Stripes
"The names Cruuuuuuush. Emphasis on the U. But you can call me Crush."

"Asante sana, squash banana, wewe nugu, mimi apana!"

  I like to use select lines from these lyrical masters for my away messages from time to time. Some of my favorites include:

"Summertime girls are the kind I like,
I'll steal your honey like I stole your bike"

and

"There was a good man named Paul Revere,
I feel much better, baby, when you're near"

and, of course...

"like THE COLOR PURPLE, macaroni and cheese"

Still, it's ear candy and I therefore love the song. If you like this, check out "The Girl On TV" (shooby-doo-wap and Scooby Snacks, I met a fly girl and I can't relax...)!!

Really? According to VH1's I Love the 90's, LFO stands for <u>L</u>yrics <u>F</u>*cking <u>O</u>ful, with Awful spelled wrong. I have to back them up on this

I was feeling done in,
Couldn't win.
I'd only ever kissed before.

[You mean she?]
[Uh huh.]

I thought there's no use getting,
Into heavy petting.
It only leads to trouble,
And seat wetting!
Now all I want to know.
Is how to go.
I've tasted blood and I want more!

I'll put up no resistance.
I want to stay the distance.
I've got an itch to scratch.
I need assistance.

Touch-a touch-a touch-a touch me!
I wanna be dirty!
Thrill me, chill me, fulfill me.
Creature of the night!

Then if anything grows,
While you pose,
I'll oil you up
And rub you down.

[Down, down, down!]

And that's just one small fraction,
Of the main attraction.
You need a friendly hand,
And I need action.

Touch-a touch-a touch-a touch me!
I wanna be dirty!
Thrill me, chill me, fulfill me!
Creature of the night!

[Touch-a touch-a touch-a touch me!]
[I wanna be dirty!]
[Thrill me, chill me, fulfill me]
[Creature of the night!]

Oh! touch-a touch-a touch-a touch me!
I wanna be dirty!
Thrill me, chill me, fulfill me!
Creature of the night!

[Creature of the night!]
[Creature of the night?]
[Creature of the night!]
[Creature of the night!]
[Creature of the night!]
[Creature of the night!]
[Creature of the night!]

I already have one in my sig. Here's more.

Melodies of Life from Final Fantasy IX:

Our paths they did cross, though I cannot say just why
We met, we laughed, we held on fast, and then we said goodbye
And who'll hear the echoes of stories never told?
Let them ring out loud till they unfold

1000 Words from Final Fantasy X-2:

'Cause a thousand words
Call out through the ages
They'll fly to you
Even though I can't see
I know they're reaching you
Suspended on silver wings
Oh, a thousand words
A thousand embraces
Will cradle you
Making all of your weary days seem far away
They'll hold you forever

Santa Monica, Savage Garden:

On the telephone line I am any height
I am any age I want to be
I could be a caped crusader or space invader
And you wouldn’t know the difference
Or would you

Hero, Chad Kroeger:

And they say that a hero can save us
I'm not gonna stand here and wait
I'll hold on to the wings of the eagles
Watch as we all fly away

What If, Kate Winslet:

Many roads to take
Some to joy
Some to heartache
Anyone can lose their way
And if I said that we could turn it back
Right back to the start
Would you take the chance and make the change

A lot of my favorite songs are Japanese. Should I still post their lyrics?
