Davy Crockett 50th DVD..worth getting if you have Treasures?

Hello friends,
Is it worth to get the new Davy Crockett 50th 2 movie set if you already own the Treasures complete TV series? Any reasons to get it? Better sound? Picture? Additional extras? Additional picture? I'm dying to know if I even need to rent it. Please let us know.

The difference between this 50th anniversary DVD and the WDT Davy Crockett set is that this one is the actual, full-length feature film, "King of the Wild Frontier", which was not included in the WDT set. It does also include the "River Pirates" episode, which was in the WDT. Can someone add anything I'm missing or correct me if I'm wrong?

All things that you can see on this double feature DVD just released youhave seen if you have the Tresure before.
Davy Crockett was a TV series first and the feature film/s are edited versions of that series.

It's worth getting for the Lone Chipmunks short which isn't available on any other DVD.

River Pirates is actually on the treasures.

Basically, the film feature is cropped and combined. Whereas the WDT version is as they initially aired and OAR (it aired on TV first and was FS, then in the movies they combined the episodes and cropped to WS).

At that time when the movie was released people cared more for the fact that they could see Davy Crockett in color for the first time rather than OAR.

In short, the current DVD is useless as the WDT has everything related to Fess Parker as Davy Crockett original as initially aired (or at least as original as possible given what was obtainable)

I have my Davy Crockett DVD autographed!

I've never seen the movie versions, but isn't there additional animation done to tie the individual episodes together?

If the movie-version release has some nice bonus features, I'd consider picking it up. I love the Treasures version of Davy, but the extras were somewhat lacking.

additional animation?? It's not a cartoon

As for the extras, it's not too bad for something made in the 50s.

My forthcoming review will explain in greater detail, but these two feature films were edited from 3 and 2 episodes of the TV series, respectively. Wild Frontier is 94 minutes, River Pirates is 81, and the DVD includes a Chip 'n' Dale cartoon short.

Actually, "Davy Crockett and the River Pirates" is the title of both an episode (available on the Treasure set) and the movie compilation of two episodes (available on the new disc), one of which is the episode listed above. In other words, the new movie disc does not include the "River Pirates" episode as such, though it does include the movie which used large portions of it. The movie edit also alters/adds some of the interstitials, but it is the cut that was seen in theaters after the televison episodes. Completists may want to consider both.

Wasn't it filmed for TV? In 1955? I know he had a mind towards theatrical screenings even then, but still....

I want the fake Widescreen lol never know maybe they were shot in WS and P&S for TV. either way I want the OTAR.

I never want any damaged films so if this was made in 1:33:1 I want it that way.

This was originaly a TV show, and was just planed for that. But Walt had a great mind so he used a lot more money in making it then what he got from the TV station to air it. The extra money that he spent was used on the colors. When it was aired on TV it was only in Black & White, but Walt wanted it in colours in case he could use it later

I don't think it was shot in widescreen as well, that would be to much a cost and would probably have been mentioned somewhere as an trivia.

The show was only meant to be 3 episodes and Walt admitted that he never belived it to be such an incredible hit (or else he would never have killed David Crockett in the 3 episode). It was even not intended for cinema release before after the success.
