The Page-Loading Problem "Resolved" (except NOT)

Post by Luke »

Here's the official reason as to why the forum has been problematic:
"Due to a recent increase in subscriptions to our service, we are
experiencing a temporary overflow on our servers. This is the main reason why you may be experiencing intermittent connection issues with your site.

Nonetheless, we have begun implementing new servers to handle this
particular increase.

Please be advised that our development team is working hard at
implementing the new servers and should be available within the month. We ask for your continued patience during this matter while we rectify your issue.

Once these machines are implemented, you will see a large difference in
performance for your site as the increase in subscriptions will be
spread over the multiple servers we will offer. "
So hopefully, soon, it will all be resolved. HOPEFULLY.

yay. It had the be the servers or something in the PHP code itself. And this means I don't have to make you your own forums.. since that would be really really hard, and I have no way to know how too1 ;)

So let me get this straight.

You complain to them...they deny any problems on their end...insist it must be random problems with your Forum members...and then release this statement?

Nice to see they are finally ackowledging the problem was on their end and are taking appropriate steps, but I'm less-then-impressed with their customer service skills.

That's sort of what I guessed - too many sites on too few servers. Too much traffic on limited connections and/or bandwidth. :P

However I'm at a loss as to why the forums should show the problem much more than the main Ultimate Disney site. :?

Probably because the boards use more bandwidth. Since the boards a written using PHP, it also needs a database, which takes up more bandwidth than just basic HTML or Javascript, which is what the site is writtin in (well some of it)

Yeah, I agree entirely. I don't anticipate renewing with them, but at least I don't yet have to get a new host with the next five months already paid for.

The database is running on the server, and shouldn't take up anymore external bandwidth - and it should be allocated a internal server connection internally so shouldn't suffer from scalability issues (not for the amount of traffic the forums get at the moment I would guess). If the database was the problem, I would expect a page to be returned with an error message on it - not a DNS error.

It's true that the forum pages are larger than the HTML pages which would take up external bandwidth, but the problems seem to be occuring before the pages started downloading, not during the download.

I would get the problem is the number of external connections to the server(farm) - not the bandwitch as such.

Hrm... Makes sense...

You seem very informed about all of this stuff... would you by chance know how to install PHP on my computer? I have no idea how to do it! :(

Today has been absolutely AWFUL.

Luke, I'm thinking you should demand some of your money back as this service is ridiculous. Think of it this way...if yours was a subscriber site you'd be out-of-business.

yeah, this raping my computer! :P...

It doesn't bother me that much, except the fact that, this is the first time I saw something after 11 this morning!

Oh luke... I've been doing some looking, and found this great site:

www.thrillinghill.com

When your service runs out, try going there.. It;s pretty darn cheap! :P

I dunno...

Cheap, yes, but are they any good? Last time I signed up with a webserver that someone recommended because it was cheap was Netfirms, and we all know how wonderful THAT's turned out.

yeah luke.. don't cry...

And about their reliability, it seems pretty reliable.. I'm gonna sign up VERY soon, and within a month, have some PHP codes running up there, so I'll let you know how it is...
