Best Fall for Big DVD Releases?
Best Fall for Big DVD Releases?
Either 2000 was the first big Fourth Quarter of major DVD releases, or it was just the first I took notice.
Anyway, which crop of major end-of-the-year DVD debuts is the most noteworthy batch to you?
2000: The Ultimate Toy Box, Jurassic Park, Fantasia Anthology, Men in Black
2001: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Godfather Trilogy, Star Wars: Episode I, Shrek
2002: Beauty and the Beast, Monsters Inc., Lilo & Stitch, Spider-man, Fellowship of the Ring, E.T.
2003: The Lion King, Finding Nemo, Indiana Jones Trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean, Sleeping Beauty, The Two Towers
2004: Aladdin, Star Wars Trilogy, Gone with the Wind SE, Mary Poppins 40th Anniversary, Mulan SE, Spider-man 2, Shrek 2
I only included the big highly anticipated catalogue debuts and some top-selling theatrical releases. Feel free to add to this or correct me somewhere.
I know we haven't seen these 2004 DVDs yet, but it's more of a question of the movies involved than the DVD content.

Out of the lists you comprised, I'd say 2003 seems the biggest, but those lists only contain a fraction of the great DVD releases there were.
I only started collecting in the fall of 2002, but so far, this fall seems to be the biggest. Usually in the fall my plate of must-have releases is pretty full, but this year it's absolutely overflowing! As of all the currently announce titles my must-have list consists of....
Star Wars Trilogy, Return of the King: Extended Edition (if Mary Poppins, a December release, counts, then this does too, right?), Aladdin, Mulan, Spider-Man 2, Shrek 2, Harry Potter 3, The Bourne Supremacy, The Princess Diaries 2, Van Helsing: Ultimate Edition, Gone With the Wind, The Iron Giant: Special Edition, Mary Poppins: Special Edition, Batman: The Animated Series: Volume 2, Superman: The Animated Series: Volume 1, Spongebob Squarepants: Season Two, Alias: Season Three, Smallville: Season Three, and 24: Season Three.
It's absolutely crazy. I'm making more money this year than I have in previous years and I still can't afford everything that I want! (a note: the above list is comprised only of must-buys, there are numerous other releases that I also want)
(forgive me if I totally missed the point of the thread, I just don't think that it's fair to sum up each fall with only four or five big releases)
Anyways, cool thread!

2004: Star Wars trilogy, Harry Potter 3, Shrek 2, Spiderman 2, Anchorman (I'm not sure if it comes out in 2005 or not), Mary Poppins: Special Edition, Aladdin: Special Edition, And Mulan: Special Edition. Whew! I know the second I send this message in, a DVD that I'm going to get that I forgot will pop in my mind and I'm going to have to kick myself.

Definitely 2004. However, 2003 was a pretty big fall for DVDs, too. I expect 2005 to be even bigger (and my wallet sobs).
