HIDALGO trailer and news (?) on January Special Editions

Post by disneyfella »

well, the new trailer is up on disney's site. i think it looks great. disney has certainly been coming out with more quality stuff recently. it seems the movies lately are geting pretty good (Holes, Tuck Everlasting, The Rookie, Remember The Titans, Hidalgo, Pirates Of The Carribean, The Haunted Mansion, The Young Black Stallion). i'm excited to see this preview on the big screen, maybe attached to Pirates.

on a side note, their video/dvd section lists Alice in Wonderland, Lilo and Stitch, and Pocahontas all as Special Editions even though the special features haven't changed. i think this is a big indicator that the rumors of 2 disc sets in January are might be true and we could possibly see the specs in a few weeks up on Disney's site.

Excellent find. Let's hope the info holds up. Though I'm in no rush for January. :)

Off to watch this trailer, now. Thanks for the head's up.

Looks like an interesting movie - certainly without much appeal to the young ones, but that doesn't mean it won't be good. It's nice to see Omar Sharif still kickin'.

I'm going to be poor! I am going to have to get Alice in Wonderland because I missed the Gold Collection release. And I need Holes and Apple Dumpling Gang and the list goes on and on.

What's Hidalgo about? I'm interested in The Young Black Stallion and Haunted Mansion, and I must agree that most of their new live action features have been very very good.

Hidalgo is a biopic about a Pony Express rider who was once a big hero of the west. When down on his luck, an Arabian shiek tells him about a race across the desert called The Ocean Of Fire. Sponsoring him, the shiek takes the guy to join the race becoming the first American ever to do so. Once there, other problems arise (i.e. competitors trying to 'do him in', a girl he falls in love with etc.). Think, "Iron Will" on sand. The special effects look great. Hopefully they'll just add to the movie, rather than be the movie though.

I here you Captain Hook on the many purchases to come ahead. You think Disney would spread it out and release a few in July, but no they want to gets everyone's money at once  . Oh well.

Thanks disneyfella. Hidalgo sounds pretty good, but I'm still more excited about Haunted Mansion. That one better be good. Do you think it will be strange to have two horse movies in one year (Hidalgo and Young Black Stallion)?

I just better start working harder and saving up my money for all these new releases! I still haven't even got the Special Editions earlier this year, nor The Rescuers!

Yeah, but then if you click on that, it gives you the details of the Gold Classic Collection release. Or, it did last week, so it probably still does.

Right, because there is no link for a Special Edition DVD yet. But the fact that those 3 would have their names changed and that those 3 were the 3 rumored for SE treatment kinda makes you think the rumors have weight to them.

Captain Hook,
The Young Black Stallion movie is going ONLY to giant screen theaters, so it shouldn't have too much bearing on the hopeful success of Hidalgo. I'm with you on that Haunted Mansion thing, though. I can't wait! :pink:

Interestingly, all three (Alice, Lilo, and Pocahontas) have now been removed from the listings altogether.

disneyfella, I'm dissapointed with Young Black Stallion only going to large screen theaters. I want to see it! Oh well.

That's strange that all three titles have been taken down. Maybe a spy noticed we were talking about it? :) Luke, did they take down "Special Edition" or did they take down all of the Gold Collection/Standard material?

I'm so glad I waited to start collecting the Gold Collection. It looks like they will all be re-released in a much better way (more extras!).

Welp, all three are back up again in their usual form; and Hook - they took the whole listing for each title off the list - not just the "Special Edition" nomenclature. A bit frustrating to say the least - I'm sure they're happening, but what the hell was that little flub about?! Probably miscommunication in the vast corporate "kingdom" of Disney, again.

And looks like Hidalgo's had its "listing" changed too - it's now coming out on March 5th, 2004 - instead of October 3rd. Wonder what they're gonna do now that the first widely-seen trailer has "Coming This Fall" tacked onto it?
It's a smart move, though - riding the wave of the Return of the King hoopla at the Oscars and whatnot. Still, we now have to wait five more months! :(
