Make Mine Music and Melody Time DVD's

Hi,

I've just been offered the Gold Collection DVD's for both Make Mine Music and Melody Time for about $19 each.

I've been reading reviews for these two discs, and found that there's a lot of criticism over the editing done on both of them.

Also, I usually don't buy the Gold Collection discs, in anticipation for better editions in the future. However, I find that most reviews believe that these two movies won't get a better release.

I'd appreciate thoughts about whether I should get any of those discs, both of them, or none at all.

I didn't especially enjoy either of the dvds, both of which were conveninetly rented from the LIBRARY! Amazing, no?
Anyways, depending on your desire to own the whole animated cannon, you may want them. They are interesting pieces, sort of windows to the fashion of the past.
I would not, however, buy them at $19 each when they are available @ best buy and wal-mart for 14.99 each. (If you get the 3 musketeers @ best buy, you can get $5 off the purchase of another Disney DVD). Depending on your access to either of these stores, you may need to order online, but shipping may not be too much. I know Best Buy sometimes offers free shipping.

Itair, You may be interested to know that the Region UK Melody Time DVD is unedited, so if you want to see the complete film you could consider importing a copy, if you are able to play R2 discs!

Melody Time is uncensored on R2 DVD.

Make Mine Music is uncensored on the Jap LD. I have a DVD copy of the Jap LD.

Yes, I wanted to add that I'd hold off for a better price on those DVDs, given that they are both edited.

Make Mine Music uncut (which is the 72 minute version I believe) was prepped for a release here some time back, and even went through the OFLC. But it seems Disney decided against it (probably at the wishes of the Mother Company). But the full versions must exist and be ready for DVD - I reckon it is only a matter of time before we see it.

I think there is a good chance these will be released again. Not only has Disney run out of animated films (let's face it, there's at least another 5 good years of standard DVD sales left) but there has been complaints about the editing - making a re-release worthwhile. I think they could be re-released in a twin pack.

My advice would be to do what I did, rent them first to see if you like then, then you'll know if you're willing to spend that much money. After all, it's your collection and your cash.
I bought the US edited version, and if they in fact do release an unedited version, I plan on buying it also. Melody Time and Make Mine Music are not my favorite films, in fact, I rather watch any other movie except for Make Mine Music, Melody Time, Saludos Amigos, and The Three Caballeros, but I'd still like to have an edited and unedited version of the films in my collection.

I'm still waiting for the UK R2 release of 'Make Mine Music'. Both video releases (the UK rental issue from 1985 and the recent sell-thru from 2000) have been issued uncut over here so presumably the DVD will be too... (when they finally get round to releasing it...)

Really? Are you sure about that? I know that the rental version from the 80's was uncut, but I was pretty sure that the 2000 sell through version was missing the Martins and the Coys segment. At least, that's what the running time at the BBFC would suggest.

Well at Costco they are selling Make Mine Music and Melody Time for 18.99 and you get $5 dollars off Mickey Donald Goofy The Three Musketeers, The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride or Home on the Range.

Yes the current 2000 video is definitely missing the martins and coys segment!

Anyone know if the R3 Korean "Special Collection" editions are complete and uncut? Does anyone have specs on bonus features or extras also?

Hi Anders, I only have the original rental version on VHS. I didn't buy the re-issue as I wanted it on DVD which I expected to follow shortly. I was going by the running time on 72m shown on <a href="http://www.sendit.com/video/item/700000 ... dit.com</a> which suggests it's uncut. I can't verify this as the video is now deleted but as you say the BBFC have it listed at only 65m so you're probably right.

I notice the DVD extras were passed by the BBFC over a year ago but still no sign of the disc!? As both the cut and uncut versions of the movie have already been passed for video, presumably they won't need to submit either of them again for DVD. Let's just hope they issue this movie intact on PAL soon and don't try and palm us off with a cut version featuring a bonus of 3 silly cartoons which we already have in the Treasure tins!

So I searched on UD's OOP list and these two movies, Make Mine Music and Melody Time, are still available as part of the Gold Collection. Yet, three stores I went to do not carry them.

What's the situation? *is a little confused*

I think that they're probably not being carried by some stores as they're not really on high demand; only Disney die-hards really want to buy Melody Time and Make Mine Music, so chances are they'll be rare in most stores. Amazon.com is probably the best place to find both titles.

I know that, but I think the only people who would really want to buy Make Mine Music despite the fact that it's edited would be Disney die-hards just to complete their animated classic collection.

i just got Fun and Fancy Free & Melody time from amazon last week to complete my classic collection ,but in fact i don't think they are that good!
( but still a classic movie to me! )
if i am not wanting to have all the classics,i might pass the DVD for it's the edited one! but i will want it anyway,i never saw these two beofre! ( and all those packaged movies before i start to collect the DVD,even i consider myself a really big disney fan! )
