Luke - 666 Ads Suck
Luke, I realize you might not completely control the ads that appear on the site, but I find the ad for 666, Mark of the Beast, completely inappropriate on a Disney site.

Yes I agree that is very terrible. Do you know how many young viewers we have, that might not understand the meaning of that ? And it can also offend people with high spiritual beliefs.
Here is a a quote from Life With Mikey
Nathan Lane - Ed Chapman : Did you check her for any 666 ?
Michael J. Fox - Michael Chapman: Yeah only 2 6's we are just in time.

Luke - havent seen the trailer and dont want to. I think Guru hit it on the head - it is age inappropritate for the site and offensive to a bunch of our beliefs.

Yeah, I've seen it a few times, though I didn't realize what it was at first (didn't know such a movie was being made). I didn't click on it, but I agree that it would be nice to have it put on that list, as it is rather offensive. Thanks, Luke.

But isn't 666 straight out of Revelations, which is in the bible, which should be taken literally right?awallaceunc wrote:Yeah, I've seen it a few times, though I didn't realize what it was at first (didn't know such a movie was being made). "Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom: let him who has understanding reckon the number of the beast, for it is a human number, its number is six hundred and sixty-six." (Revelation 13:16-18 RSV)
Sorry, couldn't resist.
My feeling is - if it says "666, Mark of the Beast", and you are offended by the content, chances are you would have had a fair idea by the time it said "666, Mark of the Beast" and it is your own dumb fault for clicking on it.

666 and all that it implies. This whole thing is about what, a movie banner? I'd say, "gee, who cares?" but apparently people do. Any child who knows what 666 is even vaugely about surely isn't going to click on it, and if they do, it serves them and their parents right for whatever their exposed too. In my opinion kids shouldn't even be surfing the web without parental supervision.
I personally haven't even SEEN this ad, which shows you how much attention I pay to them.

No one was making a big deal. Luke can easily put ads on the list that keeps them from coming up, and requests are made somewhat regularly, because there are all sorts of sordid things that creep into Google ads and whatnot all the time. It only becomes a big deal when people come in here and needlessly say "don't make a big deal."
I agree with you about kids surfing the web, but they do, and this is the kind of site they come to. It's reality. Children's exposure wasn't my first thought, though. It's just as offensive to me, personally.
Perhaps you should pay attention to them, and click on the ones that interest you from time to time, as that benefits the site.DisneyGirl wrote:I personally haven't even SEEN this ad, which shows you how much attention I pay to them.

you guys are taking this out of its content...........
6 in the bible means something horrible something demonic, something that comes from Satan. What revelations means about 666 the mark of the beast is not a literal or visible mark. It's human beings doing the things or will of the world of satan are the once that get the imaginary mark. that means drunkars, fornicators, etc..... like jesus said "they will not inherit the kingdom" and they will be cut off.
7 in the bible means some holy, clean, something that comes from God.
about the movie........well it's another stupid excuse for turning a bible prophecy into a horror movie.......

Actually, 6 is the number of man and of imperfection. Three 6s emphasizes that, or so is the common belief. 7 is the number of God and of perfection (thus 6 falls one short of 7... man falls short of God).
But that's all a belief, and it's really irrelevant. This thread is about removing an ad because it offends some, not about whether or not the theology behind the ad is in fact legitimate. We've already had 14 pages of that discussion in one thread, and countless pages in a few others.
I really see no point in continuing to discuss it, MMB. Luke said he'd resolve the problem that was brought to his attention, so I say let sleeping dogs lie.

*sigh* I didn't say I never click the ads, this one just didn't happen to catch my eye. After so many years online, it's mostly just habit not to look at pop-ups and banner ads, but for your reassurance (since you seem interested in my online habits and how they benefit this site), I do click once in a while.awallaceunc wrote:Perhaps you should pay attention to them, and click on the ones that interest you from time to time, as that benefits the site.DisneyGirl wrote:I personally haven't even SEEN this ad, which shows you how much attention I pay to them.
What offended me most about the ad, was when I clicked on it, the javascript on their site didn't actually work
Still, it's much better having this ad I think than the Disney bootlegs which often turn up. Those could result in people spending money on crappy product (and no, I don't blame Luke, I blame Google).
The Ad didn't actually say much, and from what I saw of the (non-working) website it didn't say anything much either (simply a countdown to 06/06/06 - the film's proposed release date). As I see it people are aware of the connection and shouldn't click, or people aren't aware of the connection and wouldn't find anything to enlighten them.
Still, Aaron, I'm sure even you will have to admit making and releasing this film on the date 06/06/06 is a marketing masterpiece!
(Good grief, I'm supporting marketing now, what next? Will I even accept that 'Anniversary Editions' are a good idea and *do* result in more sales?)

lol... it is fantastic marketing, I'll give you that.
Again, I haven't clicked the ad (and haven't seen it again, actually, so I'm guessing it's fixed), but it's just seeing an offensive image when you're trying to post that is very distracting.
