How Do You Aquire Your DVDs?

While I bought my DVDs nearly a year before I joined this forum, I was wondering, How do you all aquire your dvds? I myself was fortunate enough to find them all at stores around my house like Suncoast Motion Picture, Tower Records (and Tower Video). Costco is my favorite for new releases. But I go to the Disney Store first only if they're preordering since they used to (not sure if they still do) give a $10 gift card with any preordered DVD and that makes it cheaper than Costco.
My last resort for buying the hard to find dvds was eBay and Half.com.

Also, do you sell DVDs?...if so, how? There's a local store that buys back used dvds, they don't pay as much as I could make off of, say, eBay, but they're faster, more convenient and safer. (I want to sell my entire collection of Angel and Buffy season DVDs as well as my Sex in the City Season 1 DVD)...I'm wondering what you guys do.

Almost of all my DVD purchases have come online. While nowadays it doesn't save as much money (if any) to buy major releases online, there's the convenience factor of not having to go to the store, wait on line, etc. For a long time, prices were much better online too.

For non-Disney and live action Disney, I got a bunch from Columbia House. I must have done at least 8 accounts there, and that's a nice way to get DVDs for under $10 each, if you do it right. Of course now they don't offer any DVDs from any Disney branch. Amazon seems most reliable when it comes to catalogue titles that stores may or may not get in. They've also got the best customer service I've dealt with. (And when you use the site links, the site benefits from it - hint, hint

)

A Disney Movie Club account, some freebies (with a little effort) from the FreeDVDs site, and finding online deals and going with them. It all adds up to a few hundred DVDs, which means I've got more than I can watch on a regular basis, but for now, I'm comfortable having what I have and having lots of choices on what to revisit.

As for selling DVDs, I've used Half.com, eBay, Amazon marketplace, and when it was around, I used to use Skinnyguy.com to trade towards other ones. Though it takes a little bit of time, using eBay does usually yield the most money when selling something, though I haven't really sold a great many.

I used to sell my beanie babies online, but I simply haven't the time with my current schedule. I'm thinking of just going to the store by my house and getting it over with. Though I'll loose a great deal of money.

The majority of the time the place I go for DVDs (and video games) is Fry's Electronics.

I only buy DVDs at Costco when I'm out with Mom and it's a better bargain than what I would normally have paid for at Fry's (I got both seasons of "Dark Angel" for $35 each. Saved myself a couple of dollars for sure.

I have developed this weekly trip with my one year old daughter on Teusday nights. We go to Future Shop and get the ones we(well I) want and then watch Finding Nemo for awhile in their home theatre set up - on the 60 inch Rear Projection LCD Sony - what a beautiful picture.

aka Wal- Mart I lvoe that place there is one near by my house and I lvoe the way even though i am sure somewhere they are braking a rule how they match other stores prices sometimes they have them even cheaper. hard to find DVDs I shop online on e-bay and half bay. Or if its an old movie that cost way to much and I know I can get if for half the price I do that. And oh yeach recently Blockbuster they have that great deal 2 for 20 and they are used DVDs but to me its a great deal and they are in great condition.

If I could, I'd order DVD's online, but my mother is paranoid of online shopping, despite how positive a site's reputation like Amazon may be. Therefore, I buy all of my DVD's from Best Buy, Specs (which is a music store branch of FYE), and Wal-Mart. Occasionally I buy from the Disney Store, too, but not as often.

Almost all online.

US stuff from Amazon and DVDSoon (Canada - cheap!)

Local stuff I either get online from Atlantic, EzyDVDor EmpireDVD, or in the shops if it is on a whim or just cheaper that way.

I also get quite a few discs to review posted to me from DVDBits.

Otherwise I just buy them in the shops: HMV, Red Eye, Sanity, JB Hi Fi, K Mart, Target...I could list more places, but then I'd be a corporate whore.

Usually I go to Wal-Mart for new releases. They almost always have them for cheaper than everywhere else.

I almost never buy online, as I don't have a credit card.

I most often go to my local Future Shop to buy my DVDs. Previously, A&B Sound was the cheapest, but have since raised their prices; so I just go to FS instead! I usually do online price comparaisons between the two companies to see where I'll buy an expensive DVD, such as the TLK Giftset.

We also recently just got the first Best Buy in BC, down here in Langley, but I don't think I'll buy something there normally. Their prices are a buck or two more than Future Shop (even though Best Buy owns Future Shop, talk about irony!).

I have bought one DVD at Wal-Mart, though I'd only buy something there if it's a good deal (like Hercules for 15$ CAN). If I ever see the Toy Story Giftset again, I'd pick it up wherever it is! (I can't believe I didn't pick it up when I had the chance! Maybe next time I say to myself! Stupid, stupid, stupid! This was before I knew about UD and that it was OOP).

As for online retailers.... I'm too young to have a credit card, so I've barely ever shopped off my computer, and I don't think I really ever will. There's just something I love about having it in my hands and not having to pay for shipping..... I did buy MMIB&W off Chapters.ca for a good price, and have bid on several things off eBay.ca. I guess it just depends if it's not in stores, then I'd go on the internet for a search.

Hey Luke, what's that freeDVDs site you were talking about (and what's the "little effort" you have to do?). Is it one of those "Buy 2 DVDs full price and get 5 free" deals?

No, it's not like that. This was more like subscribing to magazines and immediately cancelling, getting a bunch of points and redeeming them for free DVDs.

for me the advantage of buying the dvds online is that some dvds you can't find in the stores you can find here in the internet.

Well I never had to cancel anything over the phone. That was the beauty of it. Sign up, get points, cancel...get free magazines later until the cancellation is processed, but get credited back right away. But you do need to have a credit card for nearly all offers, so I'm not sure if that would still work for you.

Luke, that seems like a very interesting deal. The parents would never go for it, though, and I'm very restricted on what I can and can't use my credit cards for.

I've gotten my DVDs from all sorts of places. I've done a little online shopping, but I get a lot of satisfaction out of buying a DVD in person, I don't know why. I'm in DMC, and was in Columbia House for a long time (would still like to rejoin, but that may wait till after this killer fall/winter of DVDs). Other than that, I make rounds to find the cheapest prices b/w Best Buy, Target, WalMart (usually the cheapest if they have it- which is always a problem), Barnes & Noble (almost always too $$), Toys R Us, Media Play, etc.

I also pick up used DVDs from time to time, whether it be on eBay or in stores.
