Live-Action SURVIVOR Round 1.5

Post by AwallaceUNC »

After a round that more than surpassed the closest we had had to date, 4 more movies are gone...
Round 1.1 - Victory Through Air Power, In Search Of The Castaways, The One & Only Genuine Original Family Band, Popeye
Round 1.2 - Return To Oz, Herbie Goes Bananas, Never Cry Wolf, The Cat From Outer Space
Round 1.3 - Tron, Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo, Benji The Hunted, Blackbeard's Ghost
Round 1.4 - The Gnome Mobile, The Reluctant Dragon, Return From Witch Mountain, The Ugly Dachshund

Even with the auditions, there are 108 remaining live-action films that survived the auditions. Therefore, we'll be dividing the game into three rounds, each of which will be further divided into sub-rounds. Round 1 will concern movies made prior to 1990 (I had to make the slight change from the site's grouping, which breaks at 1980, to even out the two groupings). Round 2 will concern movies made from 1990 to the present day. The winners of the first two rounds will go head-to-head in Round 3. Got it? Good. :)

Live-action films have already been defined for us by Luke's pages for them here on the site. Films made prior to 1980, all of which are covered in Round 1, can be found here (complete list). The complete list of films made between 1980 and 1990, also covered in Round 1, can be found at the bottom of this list.

It works just like the Survivor TV show. Basically, come on here once every 2 days and vote for the live-action Disney film that you want to vote off, i.e., the one that you like the least. Everyone is welcome!!

At the end of the round, I'll come on here and announce which films got voted off, and a new thread will start for the next round. This gets to be a lot of fun, especially when it gets down to the wire (as you hopefully know from the last two games).

You can talk about your reasons for your vote, but I ask that you put the full title of what you're voting for in bold letters so that it's easy for me to count them all in a hurry.

There are more titles in Round 1 of this game than there were in all of the Animated Classics Survivor. Therefore, for Round 1, we'll follow this plan: Four movies will be cast off in each of the first 5 sub-rounds (the four with the most votes to leave). After that, two films will leave in each sub-round, until we reach the top 10. In all, that should make for 52 sub-rounds in round 1. Make sense? The winner of Round 1 will square off against the winner of Round 2 for the ultimate winner, which will join the reigning champs, The Lion King and Toy Story 2.

This will be the last round in which 4 movies are cast off. So, Survivors ready?? Come on in and vote off ONLY ONE of these 36 movies:

Song of the South
So Dear To My Heart
Treasure Island
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier
Davy Crockett and the River Pirates
Old Yeller

The Apple Dumpling Gang
The Shaggy D.A.
Freaky Friday

The Sign Of Zorro

If Pete's Dragon can survive this round, then it'll be good at least for a while, because after this round, movies won't be voted off with only 2 or 3 votes against it. "Cooome Oooon, Elliot!" - Nora. :)

I can not tell you how much it pains me to type this:

Son Of Flubber and Pete's Dragon are gone.

And now we have a tie. 2 of these 3 movies must go:

The Sign Of Zorro
Mary Poppins
The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again

Voting for the tie-breaker ends tomorrow (Monday, July 26th) at midnight (eastern time).

It's sad that we've seen a very early round in which Pete's Dragon left and Mary Poppins is in a tie-breaker. Perhaps this whole 4 movies in one round should be rethough in future games.

Don't mind me, I'm just still scathing

Definitely The Sign Of Zorro. Haven't seen it, but I love the Dumpling films, and Poppins goes without saying.

Mary Poppins

Aaron, yeah the whole four movies thing was why I tried to get rid of Mary Poppins now. It clearly isnt the worst movie at this point, but I want to get rid of it now while I had a chance and it would not take many votes. It took me awhile to convine my wife that this is the best strategy. We are not going for the same movie but both wanted the #1 threat out of the way.

In fact, I would suggest that anyone who wants another movie to win, try and get rid of it now. Being Survivor, its not about voting off the most deserving movies in order, its about getting your choice to be the winner.
