My strange DVD Players
I have 2 DVD players that were respectively bought in 2001 and just a couple of weeks ago; both are Region-3 (Hong Kong). But the strange thing is that they can both play Region 1, 2 and 4 discs normally! I haven't touched the settings or hardware of the player and I bought them from a large chain-store that is spread all over the city so it is quite impossible that the shop had tweaked the player by themselves. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Because the machines want you on their side in the war to come against man and machine. good thing Schwarzenegger is still alive.disneychris04 wrote:I have 2 DVD players that were respectively bought in 2001 and just a couple of weeks ago; both are Region-3 (Hong Kong). anyways back to the topic: hmm that's strange. i'm guessing you probably got an all-region DVD player. or else I could be wrong and be fed to the crocodiles
It's not unusual to be able to buy all region players outside America. Check out the listing on Amazon.co.uk!

But the players had that big Region 3 logo on the back of them!2099net wrote:It's not unusual to be able to buy all region players outside America. Check out the listing on Amazon.co.uk!

Most of the multi-region players available in the UK have a big R2 on the box. They don't actually call themselves multi-region in the shop. Some are multi-region by a simple, one time only handset hack which is easily documented (mainly the ones from "safe" companies like Sony and Phillips, who at least want to be seen to be conforming to the DVD Forum's wishes, even if they are not) or they are multi-region straight out of the box. It's sort of an unwritten understanding between the maker and the consumer
