If the question is too few then the answer may be yes! But it all depends on what you like. I remember for a very long time I had only 10 DVDs or so and that seemed sufficient.

Now I've got hundreds, and there's still stuff I'd love to have. Obviously I can't watch everything with great regularity now, but it's like having a collection of classic books. There's comfort in having movies you love at your instant access, whenever there's a whim to see it.

I think most of us here agree that the DVD format really lends itself to collectibility. There's the supplemental content that sort of enhances your appreciation of the films.

But there's a lot more going for DVD that we maybe take for granted. For instance, it also offers the ease of accessing scenes. For instance, say you wanted to see the scenes featuring the top 5 songs from our Top 100 Disney songs list. With VHS, you'd have to take the time to fast-forward and/or rewind to the spot, and inherently degrade the tape. With DVDs, you're at the scene in an instant.

But now I'm kind of straying off-topic. The number of DVDs you have is really what's right for you. I can see the benefit of having a small, intimate collection of favorites that you'll watch with great frequency and really value. But with the relatively low DVD prices today, it's hard to pass up permanently owning films that you really like for the price of one cheap dinner or a single movie ticket.

Unfortunately, many of the best Disney DVD sets are out of print now. Fortunately, some of them aren't too hard to find.

The ones in print I'd most easily recommend:
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... provemz">A Bug's Life: Collector's Edition</a>
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... emz">Alice in Wonderland: Masterpiece Edition</a> (<a href="http://www.ultimatedisney.com/alice.html">Review</a>)
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... ovemz">The Emperor's New Groove: Ultimate Groove</a> (<a href="http://www.ultimatedisney.com/emperor.html">Review</a>)
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... ">Monsters, Inc.: Collector's Edition</a>
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... ovemz">The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: 25th Anniversary</a> (<a href="http://www.ultimatedisney.com/pooh.html">Review</a>)
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... z">Brother Bear</a> (<a href="http://www.ultimatedisney.com/brotherbe ... >Review</a>)
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... emz">Dumbo: 60th Anniversary</a> (<a href="http://www.ultimatedisney.com/dumbo.html">Review</a>)

And out of print ones that may require some work:
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... ovemz">Toy Story & Toy Story 2: The Ultimate Toy Box</a> (<a href="http://www.ultimatedisney.com/toystory.html">Review</a>)
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... ">Sleeping Beauty: Special Edition</a> (<a href="http://www.ultimatedisney.com/sleepingb ... >Review</a>) (Recently Discontinued, so you can probably still find it)
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... vemz">Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Platinum Edition</a> (<a href="http://www.ultimatedisney.com/snowwhite.html">Review</a>)
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... mz">Tarzan: Collector's Edition</a> (<a href="http://www.ultimatedisney.com/tarzan.html">Review</a>)
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... mz">Beauty and the Beast: Platinum Edition</a> (<a href="http://www.ultimatedisney.com/beauty.htm">Review</a>)

I think I'm going to get Dumbo: 60th Anniversary and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: 25th Anniversary :)

I was also thinking about A Bug's Life: Collector's Edition, but you can't get it with the slipcover anymore which disapoints me

It's ok. Some episodes are plagued with interlacing problems. Visit here for the review: http://dvd.ign.com/articles/390/390195p1.html

Not much in extras, but it's probably the only release we'll get. It's a good pickup if you have da cash

<i>A Bug's Life</i> has been released 4 times on DVD, but only two are distinctly different.

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... vemz"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/63053 ... UMBZZZ.jpg" border="0"></a>
April 1999 - single disc: fullscreen and non-anamorphic widescreen, outtakes, "Geri's Game"

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... vemz"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000 ... UMBZZZ.jpg" border="0"></a>
November 1999 - 2-Disc Collector's Edition, anamorphic widescreen and fullscreen, commentary, trailers, and a bunch more $49.99 SRP

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... vemz"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000 ... UMBZZZ.jpg" border="0"></a>
August 2000 - Gold Collection repackaging of original single disc

<a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... vemz"><img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0000 ... UMBZZZ.jpg" border="0"></a>
May 2003 - Collector's Edition repackaged, with lower SRP ($29.99). In addition to everything else on the previous set, there are some promotional Fishy Facts for "Finding Nemo" and a new game.

The non-anamorphic single disc version was also available with the single discs of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 in the Pixar 3-Pack which is now out of print:

So the 2 collector editions are basically the same, I wouldn't miss anything?

Too bad the older cover so much better.

Another thing I forgot, do you think it will go out of print soon, seeing that Disney loves to take stuff away from people unless they rush to the store to get it.

Thanks for the fast and insightful info.

Well, the Bug's Life Collector's Edition was out of print for a couple of years before 2003, so it probably won't go away again anytime soon.

The two Collector's Editions are essentially the same, indeed. Newer one is the way to go if you haven't gotten it already, but there's not really any reason to upgrade if you have the old 2-disc.

You're welcome!

I'd say shortsightedness in the early releases, or greed lol.
