Favorite movie scenes

Post by DDMAN26 »

We all have them those moments that elevate a great movie to mythic status. Or perhaps for a brief moment makes a bad movie watchable. Now these are in no order but this first one is the reason why I love the movies:

"The awesome yellow planet of Tatooine emerges from a total

eclipse, her two moons glowing against the darkness. A tiny

silver spacecraft, a Rebel Blockade Runner firing lasers from

the back of the ship, races through space. It is pursed by a

giant Imperial Stardestroyer. Hundreds of deadly laserbolts

streak from the Imperial Stardestroyer, causing the main solar

fin of the Rebel craft to disintegrate."
Which of course is the opening scene to Star Wars: A New Hope

Other favorite movie scenes:
"Luke I am your father"-The Empire Strikes Back
The AT-AT attack-The Empire Strikes Back
Woody blinking his eyes for the first time-Toy Story
Faramir riding to his certain doom while Pippin sings to his ungrateful father Denethor-Return of the King
Our first view of the Death Star-Star Wars
Belle-Beauty and the Beast
Be Our Guest-Beauty and the Beast
The Battle of Helms Deep-The Two Towers
Our introduction to Hobbiton-Fellowship of the Ring
The baptism/mob hits-The Godfather
"I'm funny how?"-Goodfellas
The Battle of Pelanor Fields-Return of the King
Denethor going mad and seeing Sauron's army of 200,000-ROTK
Our introduction to Captain Jack Sparrow.
Samuel L Jackson explaining the joys of a "tasty burger"-Pulp Fiction
Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken sitting down for a talk-True Romance.
Gollum vs Smeagol-The Two Towers
Meeting the guys at the Delta House-Animal House
The train attack-Lawrence of Arabia

These are just some of my favorites.

The Frighteners
The end sequence with the picnic on the grass, the openings of "Don't Fear the Reaper" and the transition to the credits. The Frighteners is much better than the Lord of the Rings trilogy. So there.

A Very Peculiar Practice [TV]
The episode ending with Rose-Marie telling Stephen that "Oh, but I was involved" in the break-up of the Professor Furie's marriage, even though erlier in the episode she stated that she was not having an affair with him. Just as we watch the realisation of implication dawn on Stephen's face, it slowly dawns on us. It really is one of those much hyped "everything you know is wrong" scenes.

Ringu
Sadako crawls out of the televison, then slowly and painfully, with every bone and joint cracking, walks over to her victim... I'm telling you, Samara has nothing on the original Sadako!

Amelie
Amelie sets traps for Mr. Collignon the grocer in his apartment.

Moulin Rouge!
The "El Tango De Roxanne" sequence, to my mind the most emotional and dramatic sequence in the film.

Little Shop of Horrors
"Downtown" - the whole musical number.

A Very Brady Sequel
"I'm trippin' with the Bradys!" Cool.

The League of Gentlemen [TV] Season 3 Opening Episode
Edward and Tubbs are resurrected from the (seemingly) dead (after the firey Frankenstein inspired climax of Season 2 - "We belong local"). Only to die two minutes later as they mistake a railway line for "New Road".

I also like the sequence in Three's Company where there's a misunderstanding (with hilarious concequences), the sequence in On The Busses where Stan and Jack bunk off work (with hilarious concequences), the sequence in South Park where Kenny dies (with hilarious concequences) and the sequence in Gilligan's Island where they try to leave the island (and fail after a hilarious misunderstanding).
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

In no particular order:

The Circle of Life - The Lion King
The climax of the Battle of Yavin - Star Wars IV
Be Our Guest sequence - Beauty and the Beast
"I am your father" - The Empire Strikes Back
T-Rex debue - Jurassic Park
Climax - Back to the Future
The Freeway Chase - The Matrix Reloaded
Goodbye at the Airport - Casablanca
Opening sequence - The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Last but not least, pretty much any scene from Pyscho.

The only one I can think of right now that hasn't been said yet is the scene in Matilda where the music is playing and she's making the cards fly all around the room and doing other cool things with her new powers.
"The names Cruuuuuuush. Emphasis on the U. But you can call me Crush."

"Asante sana, squash banana, wewe nugu, mimi apana!"

I would second Netty's "El Tango de Roxanne" choice from Moulin Rouge, as well as add a few more choice scenes from that particular movie.

1). "Your Song"
2). "Elephant Love Medley"
3). "Come What May"
4). "Like a Virgin" ...

... Basically any song number, plus any close-up of Ewan McGregor, especially when he looks straight into the camera during "Roxanne." Heck, the entire movie is my favorite scene!
